It's been replaced with 14 trials, one for each type. The Pokemon league is under construction at the start of the game in the plot so it could mean you will be able to actually design your own elite four and actually champion yourself for once.
Ghost types are okay but fairy types are even better, without being edgy as fuck

There are seven trials and four Kahuna fights. According to the new trailer, there will be a champion and probably an established elite four by the end of the game.
Considering they have shiny forms and a new ball specifically to catch them, I would think they would count as Pokemon. I am still excited to see how they are fought, however.
