well it depends actually. if I was to form a government collectively with the people in my community I'd want it to be on egalitarian principles, for I there is not a way for me to get them to willingly agree to a situation where they are institutionally disadvantaged, and even if I could, there's no guarantee that the situation would change over time and I may find myself in such a position. in reality, any emancipatory project or leftist movement must be based on egalitarianism in principle to be successful on a matter of practicality.

my point was that "egalitarianism" is a buzzword like "feminism" that will explode on itself because of how incredibly arbitrary its meaning can be.

obviously we should not accept egalitarianism as an arbitrary measure, but should examine why it is important and practical. There are very sensible egoist reasons to want to live in an egalitarian society.
