Well the main point someone brought up to me is "gen 1" garchomp doesn't look like a dragon. It looks like a water/flying type, while gen 5 charizard looks like a dark type. Well, I did agree with them, but if Litten's evolution turns out to be dark/fighting then I'm just going to take anyway any credit I would have given.

Gen 1 designs were simpler because the less powerful hardware forced them to be. Anything super detailed would either look like garbage or the detail wouldn't be visible at all.
Also notice how a lot of gen 1 pokemon share design aspects. Rhydon, lapras and nidoqueen have the exact same head.

Overall the majority of Pokemon I love are from II, III and V and I personally consider IV the real lowest point of unappealing shit the series has ever gotten for the fact that while Unova inevitably had its shit with so many introduced at a single time, it at least had plenty of mons to like as well.
