(cont. because apparently I can't help myself)
I actually agree here, I don't know why the other user tried to play it off as some Da Vinci code shit. There's a lot of really cool themes and overtones to Part 5 that deserve some thought, but the actual series of events that happens is pretty straightforward.
When did this happen? At no point does the plot stop being about the crew doing cool shit in Italy. It gets less focused on the mob aspect later on, sure. I'll grant that as another flaw. But it never tried to be Stardust Crusaders. The biggest changes in locale center around Italy's most well-known areas like Naples and Rome, which A) makes sense as setpieces for a story set in Italy being marketed to non-Italian readers, and B) make sense as points of interest when dealing with a mob that supposedly has influence all over the country. Changing settings doesn't suddenly mean Araki was shooting for a travel guide. They spend a good twenty chapters on a train and in the area immediately surrounding it, out in the ass nowhere of Italy. The point wasn't to get them to as many landmarks as possible, the point was to tell a story about a gang making an attempted coup that had no idea how to throw a coup, but made sure it happened out of sheer determination, stand powers, and fashion sense or lack thereof, in Fugo's case.
I legitimately don't know how you think Requiem stands invalidate anything in part 4; you'll have to explain that to me. The ending was a wild ride and had me hooked the whole time. Requiem stands are as good an excuse for a climax as BAIT ZA DASTO was, and literally every Jojo part except the first includes at least one asspull near the end that provides an excuse for the action. In Part 2 it was the volcano spontaneously winning the fight for Joseph, in Part 3 it was the reveal that Jotaro can also stop time, in Part 4 it was Bites the Dust and Okuyasu coming back to life for seemingly no reason, in Part 6 it's the entire process for attaining heaven, in Part 7 it's the sudden appearance of the corpse's head, and the mechanics for Love Train. I don't believe that people who bitch about Requiem stands being convenient and poorly explained have actually read Jojo.
The difference is that the bacteria aren't the only way you can get a stand. There are still plenty of people who were just born with one, like Giorno, Avdol, Polnareff, Weather Report, etc. It's still weird that Araki would want that to be an explanation at all, but it doesn't completely remove the sense of mysticism from stands like midichlorians did for the force. It's just one other way you can develop a stand. Remember also that in Part 7 it's confirmed that the Spin and Hamon are both possible paths to obtaining a stand.
Also, for the record, loads of the complaints I see for Part 5, like
are all problems that are made significantly worse by the bad scans. I won't pretend Giorno's anywhere close to best Jojo, but part of his character is being serious, idealistic, and making bold, sweeping speeches to inspire his comrades. He doesn't speak often, but when he does he means business. The effect of that kind of a character is totally lost when the translation is garbage. The cluttered fights would be made clearer with crisper scans and color and make me think that Part 5 would benefit from an anime adaptation more than any other part, and the powers all make about as much sense as any others in Jojo as long as you synthesize the information you get from being told their powers and by watching them in action. The poor translations are what leads to shit like the le epic IT JUST WORKS meme for KC.
I don't even care if this is bait or not, but you had to know what kind of reaction you'd get when you post that kinda shit here.
