If you don't want to play the game a second time to get the true ending, look up a guide on how to get it. There are several incredibly unintuitive things you have to do, most of which are "if you fuck up you can't go back and fix it" cases.

machinegun "jetpack" saved my ass in the ballos fight. i managed to clear it the first time i actually got there when i wasnt prepared for those stage transitions. youre going to be using rocket launcher and nemesis for damage anyways

A future zone in the game is damn near impossible but still doable without health upgrades due to it being the closest thing to a bullet hell. Go for normal difficulty first.
You should know you picked right if your color scheme looks like second pic related.
The game is still winnable the way you're going at, but it gets hard fast.

Good game. I highly recommended it tk my friend and got the 3DS version. He couldn't get past the guy that instakills you in the egg tunnel and called it dumb and stopped playing after like 3 hours

I'm still working on beating the good ending on hard, but I've done it before on the Wii. The later challenges are hard not just because they're challenging platforming or shooting, but the sheer length of them. A long alternate level for doing having the requirements to the good ending, the final boss sequence, and the true final boss are all long sequences and you only get one save between each of them.
Also protip for the normal ending on hard: if you did the requirements for the good ending you can open the house on your way out, save, and use the bookcase to teleport back outside to get the normal ending. I could swear that didn't work in previous versions, so I thought I had to redo the final boss multiple times when in reality I was being stupid.

Freeware is good.
WIiWare and DSiWare are cheap, but you'd be giving money to Jewcalis, so it's your choice.
3DS only if you have money and can stand god awful palette and "remastered" songs.

You know what, just get the freeware version and buy Kero Blaster.

Get + but make sure to have the original translation. + lets you choose between original and new music and graphics. Personally I prefer the new graphics and some of the new music.

I'd be a liar if I said that the kool-aid guy wasn't the first thing I thought of when he introduced himself the first time I played the game, but replacing HUZZAH was a crime.

Go with the freeware version. It's, well, free and the Nicalis version doesn't really add enough to bother buying. But I admit, a lot of that is due to personal preferences and bias as I found some of +'s changes to be disagreeable. That, and I felt like a lot of +'s "remastered" features were just trying too hard to tack on new shit to the core game when it wasn't needed at all just to warrant putting on a price tag. I still bought it, though.
I can't give any opinion on the 3DS version, as I haven't played it.

Well, got the .3ds file and extracted the ROMFileSystem from it, but it's encrypted. That's normal, but turns out that the tool you need to decrypt it only exists on the 3DS itself, so I need to finish setting up my 3DS for homebrew. Will do that tomorrow, it's 2:30 AM and I have a tad too much vodka in my system to mess around with hardware.
And even once I do that, there's no 100% guarantee the models are in a readable format. But I'll try.

Well, I'm running something on my 3DS now that may or may not create the decryption file I need. Last time I'll bump this if it fails, otherwise more updates will follow.

Looks like I managed to get some stuff out of there at least, the music and image files. Gonna look into where the models are now.

And what I feared in the back of my mind came true, looks like they use unique file formats for their 3D models. Or at least I can't find anything about .n3ddta files online.
I can mash everything together into a RAR file and upload it in a few hours to the Holla Forums vola or something, if anyone else wants to take a look at. Contains all the music, the original music's .org files (easy to get), all original graphics, and those files I can figure out what to do with in the /data/stage3d/ folder. Anyone interested?

This is personal preference.

Your lategame gun options are The Spur, The Snake, and the Machine Gun. You only get one.

The Spur is the most powerful and has a piercing attack. Good in battle.

The Machine Gun, while not as strong as the Spur is still formidable. It has additional utility as you can use downward shots with it (at level 3) for infinite flight.

The Snake is able to pierce walls. Not as good as the other options in a straight fight, but you can pull off some interesting shots with it. Only really worth taking if you want to clear Hell as fast as possible since you can use it to activate to trigger the time-bomb doors early.

You can with level 2/3 (not max) spur as well, if you hug against the time bomb you both hit it and shoot through it to activate the next one.

Machine Gun: This is what everyone should probably get on their first run. Easy to master and shooting downward for flying makes everything easier.

Snake: Shoots through walls. Useful in many ocations, I guess. Nobody truly loves this weapon.

Spur: Very powerful, rechargable. Isn't affected by experience (you don't lose xp when you get hurt). Infinite ammo (unlike the machine gun). It's the logical step when you've already mastered the game with the Machine Gun (which is less powerful).
