How do I implement socialism in Eve online?

How do I implement socialism in Eve online?

/leftyv/ thread?

I was considering doing a DH playthrough as the Soviet Union and was wondering what I should aim for (although I don't want to be too ASB)

I just got into the game myself and I must admit it's been something of a guilty pleasure of mine. I don't think there's really any way of implementing full-blown socialism in Eve simply due to the way the mechanics are built up. The game is less about nation/society building and more about navigating within the existing corporate hellscape. You also have to contend with the fact that the game is filled with ancap types who will NOT be pleased to see attempts at establishing proper socialism in their vicinity, and may align themselves against you. As I see it, you have two options:

You set up a corporation and run it as a coop. Not really creating a socialist society, but it gives those involved ownership (or whatever the game will allow you to approximate to joint ownership) of the enterprise, and you can expand from there. Build an alliance of other organizations built around similar principles, etc.

The other option is to join up with a pirate faction and essentially take plunder from the capitalists. I don't know about player corps that do it, but in-universe the Guristas are supposed to be anti-capitalist traditional pirates. Raid what you will from the empires and supercorps and build up bit-by-bit as you go.

Ah I fucking miss EVE Online. I used to run a 250 man alliance on that, and was semi-famous in the solo community when I had my twitch stream going. I'm considering getting back into the game as I hear FW has heated up again.

Do any comrades play? I'd love to go out and pew some time. My in game name is Vestion Stenier-Tian, though my account is inactive atm.

I miss playing EVE. I only got into it for a little bit but it was pretty interesting. I actually just got an email today from CCP about my old account. Apparently it's free to play now?

Many alliances institute reimbursment for losing a ship while at war.

That might be the closest you'd get, too much theft to leave open hangers etc etc.

As for your question OP, I've tried a couple times. It's hard to do, but it's ~kinda~ possible. The main downside is it requires a benevolent dictator. ironic

Basically, start a mining corp and have corp hangers. Have two wallets as well - one for all the corp's money, one for the members.

All members put the products of their mining into the corp hangers and then this can be hauled and sold off together, the profits being put into the corp wallet.

You can then use this money to do things. Firstly, buy better ships for the members (who gets what and when is determined by the members, unless they're newbies and dont even know the difference between an exhummer and a barge) and then you can also put some money into the member corp wallet, in which all members can take from. This means the members themselves have access to a pool of isk for general things they need, it's size depending on their own productivity, but the main bulk of the corp's money isnt open to be stolen by simply anyone.

As the corp grows larger, you can begin to implement more layers of the wallet, more trusted members having access to higher levels which in turn have more isk, and they can also help with filling other divisions of the corp wallet for members, and you just keep pooling the fruit's of everyone's labour together through the corp hangers.

To top it all off, make sure all the decisions are made by the members democratically.

So this is, of course, dependant on the benevolent dictatorship of the owner of the corp. There is no way around this due to the way the game is made, which sucks. You can try do some fancy stuff with shares, but at the end of the day, if you're trying to vote out the CEO with those shares, they have plenty of time to take anything of value from the corp if they want.

If you wanna give this a try though, I'm down. I've done it on small scales before, and it's really fun, you get a great feeling of working as a team and when things really get rolling you actually have access to a surprisingly large pool or resources all together.

To add to this, though the way the game is built restricts you from this in some ways, it helps in others.

If you do the member wallet amount say, percentage based, this means if someone were to take all of the isk inside, you know how much you've lost and you know you can replace it. Furthermore though, before you replace it and hope you dont lose it a second time, EVE will allow you to see through the wallet it's self but also API checks who has taken the isk and when, as well as items as well from corp hanger checks and again the API. This means you can see exactly who has what and who's taking what, so if someone does decide to steal all they can, provided they don't have too many roles, they will be promptly kicked and your operations as a corp haven't been hindered too much.

hey muke ;^)

Holla Forums pvp corp when?

Hey.

I could FC, I'm pretty good at small gang.

The game is Free to Play now anyways, and I think its set up where if you were a subscriber in the past, you get to keep whatever progress you had even if you slip back into F2P mode. I don't know all the limitations on account reversion though, as I only started in the last week or so.

I would actually be interested in getting into this game. Never played it before, but it looks like a lot of fun. It would be cool to build socialism with you guys, but I'm not so hot on the benevolent dictator idea. It would have to be someone that we could not only trust, but also raid the shit out of if they betrayed that trust. Therefore I think if we could get one of the Holla Forums YouTubers to be our "dictator," it would be best.

Interested Muke?

I've done it before, I'd be down for again.

I wold be down. Especially if we can do a DPRK LARP or some stupid shit like that. The more obnoxious the more fun I would have with it.

Damn I would love to join. Have used two trials before giving up. Never stopped reading about it.

People still play EVE?

Yeah. Got a big boost from going f2p.

first of all, you'll need to take control from some very, very powerful capitalists who already own everything…

hmm, just like real life! good luck!

Why don't we just be pirates? Socialist pirates would be badass.

Socialist mercenaries or pirates until we got enough people to take some sov. Would obviously have to join some alliance.

Get some Smart Bombing Battleships. Also I am playing again right now living in Null Sec corp. Dealing with some of the annoying guys like Goons.

anyone want to create a Holla Forums channel in game?

Yeah, going to hop back on after exams. Will probably train a new character since I don't have money or isk to sub right now.

Sounds cool. Maybe make it a more general leftist channel.

actually now that I am thinking about it this seems pretty feasible. you can't seize the means of production in Eve AFAIK but you could definitely incorporate yourself into an existing Alliance after carving out some sovereign space and then implement a socialist system within that community.

and unlike real life, you won't have to deal with the UN not recognizing you for whatever bullshit reason they come up with

I approve, move ahead with this project!

i want to play but never played it before. Might do it if there's a big leftypol group

If nothing else we could do a state-capitalist LARP and fuck with our neighbors. Actual socialism can't really exist in EVE.

This seems nifty as hell, I'd join a group like that. About as decentralized as you could expect a game like EVE to allow.

Alright, I'm gonna start downloading EVE on my laptop now.

Everyone post your in game names.

My main Character is Vestion Stenier-Tian

My mining character and the one we would use for the Socialist mining corp is Eltine something something I cant remember exactly.

i made a channel called Holla Forums for anyone here interested.
ign jonathan smart

i made a channel for people interested in playing it's just called Holla Forums

Anyone actually got a group set up? I may actually have some time to play this weekend.

Never played Eve before, but this looks like it could be fun. I'm heading into exams rn, but can carve some time out to give it a shot.

Right now it looks like it might just be me (Vestion Stenier-Tian) and Jonathan Smart. The model I gave for the Socialist mining corp works for any size though, so I'd be willing to give it a try with only three people.

Plus, if we get things going, more will come.

I'd be down. IGN is Nestor Potemkin: shoot me up if you decide to make a corp. I don't have much experience yet, but I'll try my best.
