A video game taking artistic license? Say it ain't so!

Extremely. That armor will do fuck all against a bullet

Im not playing devil's advocate but here we go…

In the really early days of WW1, soldiers had body armor, like pic related. ==BUT== since this is EA 'and' Battlefield "1" I'm gonna say they did research and said "Oh boy! now we can have a TF2 Heavy in our game without it being weird!"

Its a fucking shame since WW1 is so awesome.

People tried all sorts of weird shit in WWI while adapting to modern technology in war and you're right in saying it was pretty awesome. But DICE just interprets this to mean that all the weird shit they tried was normal stuff that you'd see a third of the soldiers using like submachine guns (that name didn't even exist at the time), tanks, flamethrowers, or horses. None of that stuff was remotely common, the only country that actually used submachine guns to any significant degree was Germany but that was only right at the end anyways. Only three countries had tanks and those were pretty rare to see as well.

Also is it true that you can't play as French soldiers in the game?

Is the game out already? Jesus fuck, time flies.

Oh also dogfights, yeah no that didn't really happen much at all. Planes were for surveillance and occasionally pilots would take out sidearms and try to shoot each other before they decided to just put guns on planes on the off chance that they'd run into each other.

Also hilariously some brought grenades with them in their cockpits and just chucked them out the side whenever flying over enemy encampments, though I don't think that really accomplished much.

Didn't Russians still think horse charges were viable during WWI? And because of that alot of guys got slaughtered until they finally decided to use tanks?

Rifles back then were crazy powerful and intended for absurd ranges, right? How much would that armour actually do to stop a .303 British round at 50-100 meters? I mean, Ned Kelly wore armour, but he was against comparatively weak black powder weapons, and he wasn't really going into battle, he was just fucking with cops.

Dogfights were a thing for atleast half of the war.

All countries used cavalry at the beggining of WW1, do your research.

Not really. A steel plate can stop bullets unless under constant fire and prevent damage from shrapnel.
Its just that its fucking useless in the way battles are actually fought.

There was one battle in Africa, not sure if it was WW1 or 2, where an Australian (iirc) brigade did a horse charge. The usual thing was ride the horses to near the enemy, then get off and charge on foot for whatever reason, but these guys just charged in without stopping. They ended up taking the town.

Only very early on until the whole trench thing took off and everyone had machine guns in place at which point they became completely useless for crossing no man's land. Afterwards they were mostly just used for transportation of supplies and mobilizing troops in places like the African theatere where there was no railroad system.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Beersheba_(1917)

yeah but his armor was just bits of ploughshares bent and bolted together, somebody using high grade steel and a good design would be able to make much stronger metal body armor

problem is even if your steel armor can deflect rifle rounds you can still be killed by machine guns, nearby explosions, hits to soft spots or melee combat. Then you add in the fact that the armor weighs a fuckload, severely limits your movement and carry capacity and leaves you highly vulnerable to weather conditions such as heatstroke or fever when the inside gets soaked and fills up with mud
All in all, steel armor was dropped because the disadvantages heavily outweigh the advantages

...

The armor did exist and the germans made half a million sets. However they were mostly used by stationary machine gunners to provide them a bit more protection and from 300+ meters they would stop rifle bullets and most pistol rounds from considerably closer.

It wasn't made for running around on trench raids but someone probably tried did.

They were used though, russians used a clever trenchlines technique to stop the german offensive of 1916.

I have no idea why they didnt just go all out steampunk. At least then all the shit in the game would be excusable.

Because their fans would be complaining 'NOT MUH BATTLEFIELD' if they did that

I want porn of it

"Using trenches" and "trench warfare" are entirely different concepts.

I meant the usage of horses in general fell off because of that.

You're forgeting one key component - cost of equipping soldiers.

The armor they could make could protecet soldiers reasonably well. But why bother? There's always more bodies.
It's not like armies in middle ages were full of full-plate.

Have you lifted anything over 100 pounds Holla Forums?

Also the loss of war time metals for other things such as firearms engines and ships.

My dick is easily 200 pounds and I can swing it around with no trouble at all, user.

Is this why Holla Forums is a virgin? A dick so massive its impossible to use? Anger problems explained as well

no, in fact im wearing it right now

its a horrible fucking idea but people were pretty retarded back in the day and some of them were barely familiar with ballistics so i'd say this isnt the worst thing EA has done to this cash grab of a game

also is Russia still DLC?

No, those armours were made to protect machinegunners from bullets fired at their emplacement. Most of these would have been from considerable range, and there wouldn't be many, because these armours far from stopped every bullet.

The Italians tried having armoured soldiers walk to the barbed wire to cut it under machinegun fire. It didn't work at all.

Nah, my boipussy could take it. We all just don't like social interaction enough to get together.

i have no issues with 400 pound leg presses user

...

...

That's been a thing ever since firearms. That's what dragoon's were, that's what Mechanized Infantry is today.

In the case of WW1 they use horses to get into position, then fight as infantry. In the age of accurate firearms and machine guns a horse is just a larger target you're more likely to hit than not.

There's also the artillery to take into consideration.
Just giving everyone a half-decent helmet reduces the damage from artillery considerably, a full suit of armor would protect a guy from all the usual forms of shrapnel injuries, though you'd probably still be screwed in the event of a direct hit, and you can forget about getting away from a grenade in time.

Going into combat is a bad idea. Honor is for fags.

Battlefield 1 actually gets a lot of things half-right. As in, all of the weapons, vehicles, etc. were at least prototyped or used once in real life, but they certainly weren't as widespread as BF1 suggests

Still, a realistic WW1 game would be 30 mins of boredom followed by 2 of nerve rending panic

I think a red orchestra styled WW1 game could work. Give the majority of soldiers bolt actions (or the choice of lever rifles in russia's case) and reserve limited slots for specialty weapons like semiauto rifles, trench guns, flamethrowers or whatever.

Some of the shit they tried in WW1 was really bizarre.

No because it makes you immune to WW1 Era bullets.

It was pretty rare end of the war gear for stationary mg gunners that were always getting popped in the head, dunno how much it helped, I guesss at range, youd still get a fucking concussison though no doubt

DICE is walking a fine line with all the gear in their game, they whipped out the most rare experimental shit so they can still calim "muh realism" while at the same time basically selling a reskinned ww2 shooter

best example the Mondragon lmao

considering that red orchestra is boring as fuck, it wouldn't work.

World War 1 as a game concept can only be reasonably worn as a theme or style, not an accurate recreation unless you want an absolute shit low energy game. Dice can't make a good game to save their lives but they made the right choice by telling realism fags to eat shit

It's okay to admit to being a pleb.

Guess that means casuals like yourself wouldn't play it, so it'll have to be low-budget.

That just means there won't be shit like consolized "ESports" matchmaking, Steam Workshop shit or the game's SDK going full never ever on its public release.

...

there is a nip stream on bf 1 do what thy will faggots.
I'm fascinated by this, its like an oxymoron.tbqh fam. Its almost like a kids first fps and they are not sure what to do.

youtube.com/watch?v=xXmdJLaojYE

There's been an awful lot of BFmarx threads lately.

...

Who is he Holla Forums?

Now I want some pizza. Fucking kike brainwashing.

Huh, I always wondered why this guy wore a steel plate.

First two and fourth are spalling masks. Used by tank crews. Bullet hits steel on one end, steel shards spit out the other end. Plus rivets and bolts had a tendency to pop loose too.

You'd think they could get it right having the common real-life gear as the default stuff, and the prototypes/one-offs as special limited-use upgrades.

Then again, pretty much every shooter ever with real world guns has the rare ones common because they look cool.

Hes supposed to be an explosive's engineer.

And at the end, some even used it in WW2

Why? Every other shooter is autos autos autos and more automatics. A WW1 should be bolt action every fucking thing except gun emplacements.

If I pulled that off, would they die?

TBH they are historically accurate but most of them were
1) made in small numbers
2) were really fucking prone to malfunction

Well the Russians did have fucking commies to deal with too.

Even Call of Duty: World at War (WW2) featured way more bolt-action/semi-auto than automatics. This game is beyond fucking retarded.

...

In reality a lot of the things in ww1 were bad ideas.
See horses, trench warfare, and early model tanks

They didn't know it was a bad idea until they tried it.

Been out since friday but if you paid for extra $20, you could play it a mere 3 days earlier than everyone else. I think there were many idiots fell for that. Paying extra for no added content other than to play a game about 72 hours earlier than everyone else is stupid.

we wuz shills n sheeitt

WWI was a very bizarre "transitional" war.

>The introduction of poisonous gases for chemical warfare and for area denial in opposing trenches. Which even affected Hitler in WWI. . .

jej

...

Dragoons have been a thing since the 1500's, and are still a thing.

...

Horse Cavalry was so effective in WW1 to a degree it was one of the main reasons they made trenches around towns etc

Considering english countryside while albeit flat its a fucking nightmare to cross with a vehicle because the land is covered in dips/notches etc due to heavy rains the only way you could get in and out of battles quickly was by horse, and it was very effective

It was also one of the reasons they started using mines everywhere to hold off attacking cavalry

And horses were still large targets so in order to transport mail they just grabbed all the fastest runners in the world and had them ferry letters

Its time to stop bumping this thread.

My free job where I don't get paid anything just gave me the ultimate edition, thus I am interested in it

I don't even like Battlefield but this is some serious autism.

What's the maximum player count on a server?

Steel plate protects from explosion obviously.

Lies, if that was true the US would deploy tactical steel plate soldiers in the middle east
the iraqi war never happened

...

64 or what I read. So the same as it has been for at least the last five years, mostly since the very beginning though. Wake me up when the max is raised to 96 or 128.

...

Did people carry mostly fully automatic rifles in WWI?
Did people wear a full medieval armor outside of trenches for an extended period of time while also carrying a stationary machinegun?
Was WWI fought mostly outside of trenches, as in WAS WWI NOT THE EMBODIMENT OF TRENCH WARFARE?
Did the armies on both sides consist of mostly niggers?

I really wish that they went the route with just making alternate history rather then "base on real events".

Don't make me whip out my love for artillery.

Did they even claim historical accuracy for everyone to get their panties twisted over a lack of realism or are you all 7 and just heard of battlefield for the first time
With the marxist propaganda it makes sense but what are you bad autists even fucking on about?

What a spooky time to be alive. Some of these are pretty much nightmare fuel.

They already said it's based on real events, but fictional. They played it safe with that one.

I dont see why everyone is complaining about SMGs they made sniper rifles so goddamn powerful that 90% of the server is snipers anyway. Every map is just tanks and snipers

Plate armor would do sweet fuck all vs a high caliber bullet, in fact it would make it worse as imagine the steel folding inwards into your flesh and having to take it off.

sniper in dudebro shooters have always been easy mode
which is useless seeing as if a person can't point and click then they can't play
still babby mode
Specially in a game where everything has bullet physics does it even matter, and leading by a few ms is still not hard at all
doesn't stop anyone from drag shooting which is what everyone should do
Ultimately, this weird step between arcade and realistic modern military shooters all fit in will always have OP snipers unless the developers actually try to make a good game, at which point you'll remember it's a modern military shooter and nobody tries to make them good

well this is the main problem of battlefield 1, they take a lot of consideration of WW1 stuff but they have to repurpose it all for the same old cowadooty gameplay since BF3

fucking racist. where are all the black europeans? you do know that europe was settled by africa before whites came along

Though that's basically the point behind bomb suits.

I think the point is not everyone has high caliber bullets. Everyone's more worried about shrapnel than anything.

Basically everything fought everything in WW1 at some point. Apparently there was a shooting fight between cavalry and a submarine.

Yeah. IT'd be heavy as fuck. And it isn't going to do anything against full-power rifle rounds.

Check it out.

Armor was worn for protection against shrapnel.

WW1 was nightmare fuel.

I miss the days we'd come up with PTSD simulators: youtubemultiplier.com/580d5febd8ece-trench-ptsd-simulator.php

Beersheba. Australian Light Horse regiments were mounted infantry rather than cavalry. But on that occasion they didn't dismount for the assault as expected.

oh gee, another bf1 thread. OP is a faggot.

Beersheba. Australian Light Horse regiments were mounted infantry rather than cavalry. But on that occasion they didn't dismount for the assault as expected. Got under the enemy guns and basically murdered the fuck out of the entrenched enemies and captured the primary fresh water supply for the whole area.

Much of the Eastern Front was just as covered in trenches as the west for much of the war, namely the northern half from 1915 to 1917.
the forests around here are still littered with trenches, dugouts and shell craters, as well as the occasional unexploded artillery shell

It would be more realistic if he had a steel bikini top instead.
