Good Android/Smartphone games that aren't too casual

I searched but didn't find any interesting games that aren't baby-tier casual and/or F2P shit. Just need something light I can play while commuting. Ideally games that don't include Google spyware shit or require accounts on a third party site.

Pinball Arcade is the only one.
And if you prefer some f2p grind with ads to a straight "buy this table to own it" vending scheme, then go be a poorfag somewhere else.

Perhaps I should specify: By "not casual" I mean games that aren't a) Pixelart Indieshit So Cute xD or b) BUY MORE GOLD HERE GOY, LIKE US ON FACEBOOK TO GET FREE SHIT.

I'm aware I can't expect deep gameplay from phone games.

Try Age of Civilizations… it's like risk but with diplomacy and a little bit of defense building. You have to pay a dollar to unlock the entire world though.

I also liked Dungeon RPG: Craftsman's Adventure. It's kind of buggy but it feels like an old gameboy RPG from the 90's.

Also Space Trader, the old palm game is available on mobile phones and runs pretty smooth.

Also Nethack mobile is always a good choice. Or if you want something a little easier: Ananias is an ok roguelike.

In Puzzle and Dragons you can clear everything if you are good enough.

There are also rhythm games for phones.

There are none. Best you'll get are board game ports. Try the ones for Pandemic, Elder Sign, or Galaxy Trucker. They're pretty good.

The Amazon phone app has a bunch of 'free' games that would otherwise be paid for, covered by Amazon inserting ads into the opening.

This is notable because Sonic CD is a really good port and is one of those 'free' games. Monument Valley is also on there and is a visually appealing puzzle game (althought it's easy enough that a 4-year-old could do it)

Cut the Rope is ad-infested shit with the internet on, but turn it off and it's a reasonable time-waster.

Hitman GO is ok.

Look for 'Simon Tatham's Puzzles' on the google play store, it's essential.

Transmission is also ok.

"A really good port" is irrelevant when you have to play it using a phone.

Puzzle and Dragons is garbage for retarded weeaboos

Final Fantasy Record Keeper is a pretty solid experience.

Once you get past the early levels and dungeons, the later bosses require legit strategy and resource management to beat.

...

Have you considered emulation?

Whatever you say friend. I guess you should recommend some of those mature games for mature gamers with refined tastes like yourself.

I bet you like Clash of Clans.

If you like racing, Real Racing 3 and Asphalt 8 are badass (but take a TON of internal storage). Riptide GP is pretty good too.

Terraria

You won't find a phone game less casual than this.

pixel dungeon and its fork called shattered pixel dungeon.

unless you're being ironic at the 5th level, you probably meant haram.

halal = authorized, haram = forbidden

Banner Saga, King of Dragon Pass, Wayward Souls, OpenXcom

Only wayward souls is mobile native but what can you do, most mobile only games are awful.

Devil's Attorney
Hitman GO
That No More Heroes game, as long as you pirate it
Stardust Shooters but I don't think you can even get it to work if you're not a nip

...

I know everyone is probably going to shit on me for this, but Clash Royale is actually pretty good.

It's the perfect type of mobile game. It's fun in short bursts and the F2P elements aren't intrusive.

The gameplay mechanics aren't super deep but they aren't as shallow as they first appear.

And i'll assume you mean only native games and not emulators.
By the nature of the platform the games on it can't NOT be casual, I mean, you ask for light games to play while commuting, that's by definition casual.
casual!=bad.
A few of the ones I like:
an arcadey shooting game with very simple controls and graphics, Has a bunch of fun game modes and can provide some challenge you can sink your teeth into while also not taking longer than a couple of minutes per game (unless you're good, in which case it won't be more than 4)

a Rogue-like (and I actually mean Rogue-like, not just throwing the name around like people did for binding of Isaac) where you pick a class, collect items, level up and all for the purpose of descending as far down into the dungeon as possible.
simplistic, but surprisingly rich in content and puts up a fight, you better be one of those people who think losing is fun.
Also, if at some point you're sick of the base game, you can download a gazillion forks for the base game (shattered dungeon, for example).

You can describe the controls as garbage if you feel like complementing this port, but I still managed to play it as an on-the-crapper game for a while.
Building and mining sucks ass with these controls but the exploran and fightan is plenty doable, I payed the scrap money it cost but I'm certain you can just pirate this bitch.

pixel dungeon is complete shit because 90% of the games are unwinnable due to a shitty combination of items or equipment drops

or sometimes regular bad luck

King of Dragon Pass
There aren't any more

Please tell me how this is casual.
The difficulty levels are called HARD, HARDER, HARDEST, HARDESTEST, HARDESTESTEST and HARDESTESTESTEST

I like Rust Bucket

Look, the difficulty of the game is only part of the reason for a game to be called either casual or not.
while Super Hexagon definitely takes skill, it's also a simplistic game (and by that I don't mean how difficult it is) that is played in short bursts and can be picked up and played for a few minutes by anyone at all (AKA can be played casually).
It's casual even if it's hard and even if you like it.
Like I said, Casual doesn't mean bad.

there are no good smartphone games. just play games on your pc and browse the internet or read/listen to books on your phone like any patrician would.

Typically the only good games for Android are ports. The entire play store is set up so users cannot filter out the trash, so nothing but trash succeeds.

Tyrian 2000
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.opentyrian

Just get a second hand PSP and emulate games instead. Mobile phones are shite for vidya

Granblue Fantasy. Just select the english option.

Isn't there a list of Android games? There should be one.

That's perfectly good advice. About the only impressive thing I've seen is that DS emulator for Android. Too bad it's pay, that just seems wrong for an emulator.

Fuck off retard.

Puzzles and Dragons comes to mind.
It gets pretty intense in the upper levels. And you don't have to spend a dime to make decent progress in the games.

Earlier it was a complete BITCH to progress. They made it much easier now than ever to reach late game. And it gets pretty intense once you reach past rank 150. If you want all the latest content quicker you could play the jap version if you'd prefer.
PAD is probably one of the best example of a mobile game done right.

I enjoyed the Infinity Blade series. But don't give them money for micro-transactions- obviously.

Collosotron is also good, if luck-based.

Jet-Pack Joyride is great. I got it for free on a console.

...

A real gamer can squeeze the vidya out of any electronic appliance, pleb.

Good list. Let's dance.

Surprisingly good shit.
It might look like weird mix of MGR and PSO2, but it's a fucking golden axe game. Pretty good one at that.

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup.

It's an actual roguelike port, but the design philosophy is less about versimilitude and more about creating meaningful decisions and removing unavoidable deaths and obtuse situations you need to read about of else bang your head against 50 times before they can be navigated.

Ridge Racer Slipstream? Though it might require an internet connection, never tried it without one.

Isn't there loads of games like that though? With things like energy timers, premium currencies, player raids and the like? Obviously they could wildly differ in production values but mechanics-wise fairly similar?

T-Thanks freedoms

Granblue stands out because of the full voice acting, and great art. You might not stick around until the end of the very long story mode, but for a freemium jrpg it's got extraordinary production values.

I'm sure it does, but I'm talking about the way it plays. There must be loads of western and eastern mobile games cut from that same cloth.

Just emulate DS and GBA games

i think people only play it for the art style and fap to the porn comics

...

Just get DraStic and play DS games.

Yokai Wib Wob is alright too.

are you telling me that roguelikes as a whole are shit?

and clearly I have played a roguelike, as I was commenting on the mechanics of a roguelike

dumbass

The point isn't to get to the bottom of the dungeon, retrieve the amulet of yendor, and head back up, it's to get as far as you can. Consider any PD game where you get to the first boss and beat him a successful game, and anything that happens after that is icing on the cake. And if all else fails, there's at least one fork of the base game that's made for causals like you.

libretro.com/index.php/retroarch-2/

stay away from Mobage and Nexon.

Terra Battle is okay if you have a big screen.

The only good ones are ports of turn based games from other systems.

Study Nipponese with Anki instead of playing shit. You'll get more enjoyment out of it and learn a useful skill.

...

I remember playing this a while ago. It came out before game dev tycoon, and it's better.

Pixel Dungeon. It's on f-droid if you can't find it on google play.

Sounds good, thanks.

Have thjat on my PC at work already but nice to hear they ported it.

Great list, thanks.

That's the first thing I noticed about it. Jesus Christ I want to murder Google.

FTL
Xcom EW
Infinity blade
Glory of generals
Solomon keep is easy till you reach hard. I still can't beat master
WTF who's that flying. Looks casual but you actually need to pay attention to win the level

It's a shame that Open Hexagon is only on PC, since it is by far superior

You mean age of conquest?

Jesus Christ user. You really have shit taste. I tried it to see what was about…..ranking is shit, so you end up with people with top armies in the bronze.
Strategy is basically wait for mana, drop tank, then spam skelly till he is dead
Rewatch your apps

Three CYOA/RPGs made by the same author. Good writing, no PC bullshit (unlike most of the other turds Choice of Games shits out), Sabers and Guns won't even let you play as a female because of the historical era it is set in.

Sabers and Guns takes place in a low fantasy world during their equivalent of the Napoleonic wars, and you're a new officer put in charge of a regiment, from then on it's up to you to decide what kind of commander you are going to be.

Mecha Ace is not-Gundam, but a nicely done one.

The closest thing to Armored Core phones have. Controls nicely with just the touch screen, has rather basic customization options but it can scratch the mecha itch.

For anyone that has played Carnage Hearts, this game is similar, in that you can program your three bots, later updates promised mecha customization to be introduced.

I know mobile gaming is 99% shit and a really cancerous market, but that doesn't mean there are no developers out there trying to bring some semblance of quality and innovation to the platform. Their efforts should be recognized and respected, because they'd rather try and make a good game instead of acting like complete Jews.

But is hard user

Granblue Fantasy. You can't find it on the app store though, you need to sideload it (or you can just play it via your browser).

Have fun grinding your life away

just end yourself.

Nethack and UnNethack both have great android ports

Please answer and

...

No I was talking about age of civilizations. Never tried age of conquest.

But losing is FUN, user

JRPGs mayne, why do they all the same shite amirite?

Is droid only? Because on iOS I can only find conquest
post a pic of it

Look like it's android/pc only. Also looks like they upped the price since I got it about a year ago. Used to be $1.99 to unlock the whole world or free if you just want europe.
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=age.of.civilizations.jakowski&hl=en

Thank you user. Here have some titts

This board and everyone on it who unironically considers themselves at home here are only slightly less casual than reddit.

What a joke.

where's the recommendation chart?

Right here you blind fucking retard.

sure i bet you feel at home in there fam
>>>/reddit/

8gag and reddit are both fucking cancer when it comes to their taste in video games. The best thing to say about it is that /bwithvideogames/ serves as a containment board for your cancer.

You need to go back to 20$chan my friend. You'll be happier and we'll be happier.

You don't even know where I am, so all you can do is throw out inane accusations in an attempt to justify how casual you are. What's next, accusing me of being from neogaf (cancer), SA (cancer), or gamefaqs (cancer)? You need to classify me into a group that you dislike or else you will go mad from the discomfort.

Since you're obviously too good for this board why are you here in the first place?

At least have the dignity to play using an android emulator on PC or at least a tablet, son.

I know you're wasting your time shitposting and downvoting a thread about shit you don't care about. You're trash, that's all I need to know.

This place isn't shit because we want to find proper games to play while on the shittier….this place is shit becasue faggot like you are infesting us

That's right. It's trash because the "proper games" that you find are trash, and that's all you ever WILL find on a god damned cell phone.

If you are going to use your phone just download an emulator to play gba games.

...

Sometimes I want a time-waster while I'm waiting for the bus or for the waiter in a restaurant. Playing on a phone gets no stares, as opposed to playing on a DS, which is also completely barren in the good games department.
People don't need to know I'm playing Nethack, instead of Words With Friends. Even people who look over my shoulder have no idea what the fuck I'm doing.
I have a phone either way. Are you trying to argue that I am somehow a casual or a reddittard because i download a couple of a free games onto it, as opposed to dropping money for a handheld device and the overpriced games made for it?

You seem like a faggot who cares more about his image than whether he has fun.

How is that any different from a phone?

...

Let him hide his powerlevel, you casual.

Oh and

That's gross user

I assumed Android would have at least some non-casual games (as defined in the third post) but so far it's been hard to find any. As I said, I'm new to Android in general because I resisted the lure of normalfag phone culture so far.

What part of "time waster" didn't you understand? I play games out in public 30 minutes a week at most. Even if there were games on DS that appealed to me and even if I could find one for dirt cheap and even if I didn't care about looking like a dork in front of women, it still wouldn't be worth the space it takes up in my pocket.

The device is flawed.
No matter how good of a game you find, the device that you will be playing it on is flawed, and deeply so at that. You can't get around that.

user, it's a computer with a shit OS, it's not impossible to enjoy. You can even hook up a controller to it if you want. Mind you, if you have a shit phone with a terrible processor and no ram them sure: it's gonna suck. But mine personally is pretty great for vidya on the go. Mind you I still prefer my 3ds, but again:

And a shitty capacitive touch screen as the only input device.
The device is irredeemably flawed.

He doesn't even have one.
Then clean them, it's not hard.

You won't get one when you think like that. If you actually cared about getting some broad at your job you would be lifting and getting into activities that make you look manly, instead of sitting on the phone trying to hide who you are.
Then get a briefcase and put it in that, unless you are working at some fast-food place in which why would you care about other people's opinions at a place like that?

Okay so you didn't even read my whole post then? What about "You can hook up a controller" are you having a hard time understanding?

Consider the target demographic for mobile games. It's going to be slim pickings.

Your best bet is to go on the google play store and just filter out the "in-app purchases" tab. What you will get is a lot of ports of older games and the occasional experimental unity game by some amateur dev.

Have you stepped outside your house in the past 15 years? Everybody has their face buried in their phones, ESPECIALLY the meatheads who like to lift.

The part where you reasonably expect someone to play games on their mobile phone using a dual shock 3 at best, or a shitty mobile phone controller at worst.
Also the part where you think there are mobile games worth playing.

Oh, so you are just baiting while being a retarded tryhard. Gotcha.

I think it's sad that you think I'm some loser who doesn't go outside just because I'm saying that it's sad you care so much about your image.
How is that an argument to what I just said?
So why care then?

Scroll up and read our argument again. I think you're confused. I said I don't care about people seeing me on my phone because everyone else is on theirs. If you like the asinine shit that is available for DS, then go ahead and get one. But why do I want to stand out in a crowd when I don't have to? It doesn't just make you look like a faggot, it also makes you a mugging target.

Whenever I see someone who obviously doesn't care how he looks to others, the very first thing that pops into my head is "this guy doesn't go outside much" and everybody else who sees you hunched over your DS is thinking the same thing. Don't blame me for being self-conscious. Not everyone is born autistic.

Where do you even live that people would wish to steal a handheld over a smartphone?
Then why do you go to this board in the first place? I have a normal life yet I don't go onto Holla Forums asking for shitty things that could easily be dealt with with the slightest bit of intelligence.

bcuz i can get one for $100 now, without any contracts, straight from Amazon

because everybody has the willingness to buy an overpriced micro-USB hub and carry a bundle of cabled spaghetti amirite

I know what our rhythm game threads think of OSU but OSU have few decent clients for phones.
Of course problem is you block your view with finger so you need to resort to memorizing maps sometimes, but it would still fit into "not too casual".

Besides this actual ports. Even KotOR is on android.

How do you manage to keep quoting me with spelling errors? Have you heard of copy+paste?

Also, where do you live where standing out in a crowd doesn't make you a bigger mugging target?

That isn't a good reason to ignore what I'm saying.
You live in niggerville? If you are that worried about your image faggot why not just get a ti n-spire calculator and modify it to play gba games? Unless you work at a physical job I don't think people will look at you weird for having a calculator.

...

What is this, the 00's or some shit?

How about the fact that we've been arguing in circles because you keep ignoring what I've been saying. I don't even play games at work

Ah, now I get it. It's sucks I felt for your bait.

...

...

MyGBA
PPSSPP
Desmume

I should have realized you were just trolling 20 minutes ago. My bad.

Good job man. Have a gold star.

top latency, i bet you own a wireless mouse and keyboard too faggot

Actually, I can understand that. Phones can be tracked and returned after you tell the police to hunt down Jamal. Handhelds don't have such a luxury.

For OP, I recommend maybe just downing a handheld emulator for android and playing the obvious non-casual handheld console games you know or just go into the android store and start browsing. There's so many apps now you're bond to find and bump into something from the recs. For example, try searching Final Fantasy or Slay into the playstore search then go from there.

...

What the fuck is going on? Is Holla Forums finally dying?

Hoplite is perfect for this, very easy to get into and you can stop at any time but there is a surprising amount of depth to it.

truly mind boggling

huh idk fam

What makes it flawed? My phone is far more powerful than a gameboy and not every game needs buttons to be good, this one
is perfect for touchscreens and if it was on PC I wouldn't change a thing

ANYTHING BY FOURSAKEN

EVERY THREAD

This is literally you right now.

It has controller support, so no, you don't

Bump, more games please.

If you're in a situation where you can use a controller, why would you not use a PC or a laptop?

I have no idea why people keep replying to him.
It's just a lonely retard that goes into every single thread on Holla Forums and talks shit about whatever game\topic is in the OP.

He never offers alternatives, never argues why it's actually as bad as he says it is and he never shows any interest in actually playing anything at all.
Just stop replying to the tard, he's an attention whore that craves knowing that other people value his insight into the particular life of random anonymous people online.

>bragging about being hardcore
>being so casual he can't find good games on android
>being so casual you justify it with "there are none" instead of just saying you suck at finding videogames

i dont see what artstyle has to do with casual factor

These are very good "roguelite" games. Especially Towelflight, if you like The Binding of Isaac.

It's a Wario-ware style game, which has you managing up to 4 activities simultaneously, and gets challenging pretty quickly.

There are engine ports for Doom (prBoom and GZDoom), Hexen, Quake (Darkplaces), Quake 2, Quake 3 (and Open Arena), Doom 3 (working decently on many devices) and Jedi Academy. Also, you can run Starcraft, Civilizaton, Fallout and Caesar III with exagear strategies.

Also, Retroarch and Reicast for your emulation needs,

It may have been one or two people a couple years ago. But now there's a few of them user. When someone acts like this on an active imageboard with a big (relatively) community, it always inspires someone to immitate it, then someone immitates them. Then so on. Eventually you're just screaming out merely to make a point while being told literally everything on the entire planet sucks and you shouldn't even like video games

GBA/PSP emulation

LaserBox is pretty good

-Valkyrie Crusade
-Rayman Adventures
-Pacman 256
-Get an emulator to play RPGs

I get what you mean but I have to agree with the others, it's not just thr shit OS but the device by itself is not great for games. Sure you can bring a controller but by then you might as well get a dedicated game device. Most people aren't going to carry the controller around because of its cumberness and devs know this, meaning games have to be designed around this lack of tactile feedback whcih makes majority of the games feel like shit.

No matter what, it's going to be shit because the device itself is shit for gaming and usually not worth it.
