Are any of these games worth playing? I'd pirate them and see for myself, but I'm limited on the amount of both time and hard drive space I can dedicate to games at the moment.

I put off playing Septerra Core for years but started it up a while ago. It's a fun isometric RPG with good lore and some interesting characters.

It's very linear with only a little grinding so it's not that hard to get through. The combat is also a bit like chrono trigger so it's easy to understand after a bit.

Get it on GOG or just pirate it don't matter. I forget the fix to the FMV cutscenes but it should be with the GOG version.

Nox is great

3 classes which all have their own type of adventure, but which also intertwine around a specific item. There's a bit of enmity between classes, as you find out.

Spells are awesome, so go wizard unless you absolutely don't like magic to begin with. The campaign shouldn't take too long if you only do 1 class.

It's very much worth playing, though I'll admit I don't know the others so I can't say if it's better or not.

Opium=/=Gorky 17 I think the game is a complete bitch to get to run but the concept seemed interesting. Never did succeed in getting it to run though.

Septerra Core is also sitting at the bottom of my gog games list. Bought it because it looked interesting but haven't actually bothered myself to play it. If I wanted isometric story driven I'd just play planescape or Fallout or something.

odium is bad, the funny kind of bad.
septerra core is a nice rpg.

I still have Odium in its original box with the shrinkwrap intact.

Every time I tried to play Septerra Core back in the day a different error would always happen, that I would have to desintall and reintalls the game, after the 5th time I gave up.

Yes

No

Thanks, I'll give Septerra Core a try.

That's disappointing. It looked pretty interesting.

I only played Septerra Core and Nox.
Septerra Core, is meh, some weird attempt at cloning and merging Phantasy Star 4/Final Fantasy 7 without any idea of what make those good. It's not complete shit, but it's difficult to enjoy even if you like JRPGs.
Nox is great, but it's locked at 30 fps. It's a real time action game, in some ways similar to diablo, so it hurts it a lot. I haven't found a way to run it at 60 in years.

I'm surprised you didn't post Shogo to go with the rest of what I'd refer to as The late 90s Office Depot collection.

I fucking loved Shogo

Never played the others but Nox is fucking great. Here's the gog installer:

I already learned about Shogo from a friend awhile back. Great game.

Thank you, I'm definitely going to play this when I have the time.

You shouldn't steal!

Copying isn't stealing.

Give them a try.

its the sharing economy liberals seem to love

Gurgle down my cock faggot.

Yes it is! Pirates don't copy other pirate's booty! They kill everyone and take it! That's what you're doing, you're taking away their money!

back to reddit you go

I can't stand by while people break the law!

But that's exactly what you are doing. You just stand by.
And pirating is not breaking a law where I live.

It is. True, once you leave Spain it fizzles out but it's more then worth a playthrough.

Where do you live? Poopoo island in Africa? It's still wrong!

i think you're the first person i've ever heard say something good about lionheart. by the time you figure out the mechanics you're already past the part the developers actually spent time on. very disappointing game.
Nox and Septerra Core are probably the best of that bunch but neither are really that great imo.

What about you being useless piece of shit that does nothing against something you believe is bad?

Septerra Core is a pretty good JRPG, probably the best example of the genre by western devs. Very linear though, with something of an emphasis on (relatively easy) point and click adventure-style puzzles (outside of combat, which is standard).

Nox is a Diablo (2) style game with a bit more emphasis on story. It's something of a campy/parody. In terms of gameplay it's pretty solid but a bit too fast for my taste.

Geneforge is pretty much exactly like every other Spiderweb Software game, which includes their Avadon and Avernum series and probably Exile too. They all have their particular gimmicks but they are all the same kind of retro turn based RPG. I can't say which game or series would be the best starting point, I personally don't have the patience for more than one of them.

Lionhardt is shit. It wants to be Diablo meets Baldur's Gate, fails at both.

I have no idea what Odium is, never heard of it.

Geneforge is alright. Especially if you go full on "I'm behind 7 summons" Shaper. I will say that you should try it out on the seven seas before you even think of giving der juden your hard earned shekels for it.

your child porn uploads are already gone, fucko

(checked)
And I know you're fairly new here if this is the first time you've seen me shilling lionheart. But yeah, it really goes downhill in France and the ending is some proper rushed bullshit.

I still maintain that the Spain part aka the first half of the game is god-tier.

I'm teaching people why it's wrong!

It's only "wrong" because of your belief system. Objectively your belief system isn't any more right or wrong than the belief system of pirates.

I didn't teach shit, only spouted opinions.
Can you objectively prove your point?

Yes, stealing is wrong because you're taking something from someone else! In this case you're taking money from them!

Wow user~kun, you are such a faggot!.

Wait, wait. WHY is this wrong?
If colonists didn't take lands from treeniggers and didn't pushed their shit in, you wouldn't be shitposting on an anonymous site right now. What they did was a right thing. Can you prove otherwise?

Septerra Core has a pretty good story, totally bitchin' world design, and combat that…well… could be better
it was very much a western take on the JRPG (up til then most western RPGs weren't character driven).
This puzzle's about the only time you'll have trouble thinking in the game's fashion: you can get the acid in the graveyard by purchasing some chemistry equipment in the nearby town's item shop.

I've played through Nox and the Geneforge series, and most/all of Lionheart a longer time ago. The first two are pretty great, Lionheart was quite enjoyable from what I recall.

Nox is fantastic if you want a faster game. The first Geneforge has a heavy exploration feel to it, uncovering what's going on on the island, so go with that if you want some mystery and slower gameplay. Lionheart itself had an alright story, with good gameplay and some harder bits that took taking every potion that could be useful, the three different spirits that can inhabit you gave some variety, but I don't remember enough of the game to give a detailed analysis.

You should play all of them, but I'd suggest playing Nox > Geneforge > Lionheart, because Nox (if you're only playing one route) is shorter + good gameplay; Geneforge: longer + good gameplay + neat story; Lionheart: long + alright gameplay + ok story.

Your the best user.

Did John Flynt steal his main character from this game?

but if I don't get an informed opinion, I won't know how to spend my money in such a way as to provide some small influence on the way the future of the industry unfolds
you think Might & Magic X (meh as it was) would have even gotten past the laughed-out-by-the-board stage if M&M1-6 weren't a top seller on GoG? And plenty of those buyers pirated it first before deciding how to exercise their spending dollar

I have no idea who you're talking about, but septerra core is pretty old, so probably.

It's still locked at 30, isn't it?

Stealing feels good. I can't say that I want to give developers money unless I can support them and what they act like on the whole. If I can't? Then its fine with me to steal from them. If I like their beliefs and the product itself? Then I go and buy a copy. But always always pirate before you buy. Never just buy.
I do love this little thing you're pulling user its very cute

game industry deserv pirate rape.

septerra core is good

I remember playing Odium/Gorky-17. Love the atmosphere, and it's punishingly hard, don't remember if actually good or not since I played it when I was like 10.

I buy used. It's perfectly legal and publisher don't see a single cent.

Lionheart is pretty good, play it.
The only problem with the game is that magic sucks, and I mean it's useless (without mods at least).
Your mana regenerates in a similar fashion to diablo 2, except it takes hours (literally).
This is a damn shame as magic was very well done and thought out in the game, for example you got about 6 different spells only for lightning, all of them different animations and effects.
Another shitty thing is that you need intelligence and charisma to complete quests properly but as I said magic is useless so most quests will remain incomplete or take much longer and be more difficult to complete.

The character design and skillset and progression is awesome, you choose a race and then a class and then main skills.
It's not really worth playing as anything other than a feralkin archer tbh, archery > all.

The story is pretty decent, dialogue isn't bad, there's a faction system which is very interesting, music is ok.
There's a lot of variety with enemies; by the way, the game is really, really difficult, especially once you reach "chapter 2" (the second area).

...

It's too late, I already pirated Nox from
You should have said something sooner.
