Which Mario Kart was best Mario Kart?

Which Mario Kart was best Mario Kart?

By the time this thread ends, you WILL know the answer.

DS

None of them.

/thread

The one with Sonic.

DS for handhelds
Double Dash for consoles

But Super Circuit is my personal favorite.

I'm inclined to say Mario Kart 8, but that might be just because I had so much fun in the Holla Forums lobbies when it came out. I can't deny it had an abysmal roster.
Best game objectively is probably either MK DS or Double Dash.

DD is arguably the best but i personally consider 8 to be the second best.

Double Dash

DS = 8

64, DS, and 8 are the best.

8>DD>64>DS>7>Wii>SC
I'ver never played Super Mario kart.

the one with karts and shit

All-Stars Racing Transformed

Rosalina Kart 8 can DIE IN A FIRE

Whichever was the last to not have blue shells.

Double Dash and DS.

It's sad that videogames peaked in 2006.

I didn't believe you at first, but holy shit they really did come out over 10 years ago.

...

you can block in 8, you oaf

There are 13 year olds older than Double Dash.

...

Jeeze user, the games are already casual enough. How much more casual do you need them to be?

Diddy kong racing was the best mario kart

Your extra chromosome is showing.

...

Why is Sonic driving a car? Wouldn't he do better if he ran on foot?

My mistake. I mis-remembered. Actually, you can block in MarioKart 8, however when you do drag an item behind you to block it is not removed from inventory so you cannot pick up additional items like you could in MarioKart Wii.

Blocking reduces reliance on luck. More luck reliance = more casual. See: Smash Bros.

SNES gets credit for being the first and introducing every game mechanic used since.

N64 had some cool tracks but too many square corners that are less fun that sweeping turns.

I haven't played one since, for me the award goes to SNES.

Or you can use all the audio and visual cues to stop being such a fucking causal. Or hell you don't need those cues if you got fast reflexes

Wow, look at this hardcore guy who can perfectly dodge any item in mariokart based on lightening fast cat reflexes, super hearing & clairvoyance. Can I have your autograph?

Yeah, or, you could block.
What's wrong with a bit of choice, user?

Wow look at this child who can't even play a children's kart racer at a skill above casual play

Finally, someone gives recognition to the fact there was a Mario Kart game before the N64. In many ways it was better than the games that followed. I don't know if I'd still say it's the best, but it's definitely top 3.

You can't dodge every item at all times in a randomized children's party game, ya lying-ass tryhard.

Any Mario Kart with the blue shell and lightning powerups is a bad game.
8 is particularly shit because the coin system exists solely to punish you twice for taking damage from means usually completely out of your control.

Mario Kart is the Smash of racing games. It will never be competitive because it's not designed to be, so only autists actually take it seriously.

Dropping a shell or banana before an item hits you is no different than holding the shell/banana behind you. You've got enough tells and screen room to react to any income danger unless you are slow as fuck.

Quit crying because you can't hit a button fast enough.

200cc or Bust

150cc is now slow to me.

The first one for single player, 64 as the best multiplayer.

wii or DS had best roster but 8 has the best balance

not sure on courses…

These niggas know

it was shit, get nostaligi googles OFF

Be in no doubt.

There needs to be a 200cc mod for it.
Hell, why stop there?
250cc
300cc

...

what would you smash?

Your boipussy.

naw, too broken with the bullshit snaking exploits
muh waggle wheel!

The top 3 are 7, double dash, or 8. Of course nobody owns a WiiU so probably not

enjoy your binary turning. The controls in that game were shit

Stay mad, casual

...

Yeah it ended with 64 for me.

They did the same shit in Mario Maker with the costumes. Keep things clean and organized please. This is like multiculturalism applied to videogames.

I'll admit Mario Kart 8 plays well though.

CTR

Sanic > CTR

All Stars > CTR > MK

You think too small user.

Only correct answer

I hoped to see this and was not disappointed.

You came to the wrong neighborhood, you motherfuckers.

MKDS's online races were fun back when they weren't full of cheaters like that

Double Dash or DS, of course. Smooth as fuck with great rosters, karts and stages.

I have no idea what anyone could possibly mean by broken. The drift mechanic? You practically need that for way too many turns if you want to git gud for Special Cup and especially 250cc.

I had some of the most fun with 7 and DS.

I liked Wii the best
More or less because how fucking bullshit absolutely everything in that game was, from Funky Kong to the fucking awful items, it was hilariously bullshit

Tell me, were these illustrations made by a child or someone with severe autism, or are they the product of a legitimate artist who is deliberately going for this aesthetic?

Mario Kart DS.
Fuck Double Dash.

Any mario kart with real mini-turbo is better than any where they took it out to stop snaking, but the best Mario Kart since they killed mini-turbo is 8, due to fantastic improvements in the item system, and fantastic course design.
8 shows an attention to detail in all aspects, except character roster.

I hear Mario Kart Wii was the very definition of broken and going full retard.

Cheating absolutely fucking everywhere online all over the world with busted rubberbanding RNG that results in more than 2 Blue Shells every lap at minimum completely flipping around everyone's positions every race while 1st Place is helplessly at the mercy of absolutely nothing but bananas to defend themselves. Just a hilarious fucking mess.

How true is this?

I think in terms of overall content in a single game it would have to go to the DS version if your playing by yourself/on a desert island. MK DD for multiplayer if you could get the LAN adapters for 4 GCN's. But if you have the maximum amount of friends to play with each game you could have good fun with any of them. But here's my thoughts on each game.

> SNES, First played via Wii VC. AI wants you dead, tracks are nice for the time. Never grew up with it, so don't have much to say about it. Still fun though.

> N64, First MK I played and reason why I got a N64. Nice tracks but AI is too easy (obviously toned down from SNES), battle mode is fucking brilliant with great simple stages. Self contained stages would get more dangerous the longer the match went on for due to green shells bouncing endlessly around (no other MK does this as they remove items from a stage when it hits a certain number annoyingly) The Blue Shell first appeared here but was balanced.

> GBA, highly SNES inspired, AI good, nice stages (even within hardware limits) with inclusion of SNES track layouts as a nice bonus. The controls may be hit or miss though. One of the best single cart multi GBA games though. haven't played any multi outside of that mode though.

> DS. 32 tracks of new and old. The only downside is the 8 retro stages split between SNES and GBA are flat and without elevation. AI wasn't too stupid, mission mode was nice, battle mode with bots finally happened. Decal feature was nice (only saw one dick online), online racing was . . . basic at the time with only 20 stages out of 32 and no battle mode (supposedly due to having to be released before Christmas 2005). Hackers and the snaking exploit did not help. Everyone snaking in local races with friends can apparently be fun and challenging but it create more a divide between player skill levels (and can also cause physical pain and possible button wear)

Continued.

> Wii. Introduced the stunt system for speed boosts, so you could go really fast. 12 racers on the track now instead of 8, introduces more item spam and more frequent Blue Shells for those in first place (and also the term "item rape"). Stages got "wider" to accommodate the extra racers. Less retro tracks from the SNES/GBA games (like 3 total?) means there's less "flat/no elevation" tracks unlike the DS version where 8 out of 32 (25%). Battle mode went downhill here as it was only team based with no elimination and on massive stages including a ruined version of N64 Skyscraper (Nooooo!). I think the reason why Battle mode went to shit was because of online, 3 minute matches were there to prevent players waiting for a match to end, no one could get eliminated as to prevent any player "sitting out" the match due to losing (like the DS version) and teams were forced so each "player" contributes to a single score for their team. No Mission mode but it did get a single fortnightly challenge from the internet where your time could be submitted. Some of those were pretty neat like facing the spinning top boss from SMG, driving through 5 rings on a battle mode track with ONLY the Wii Wheel, racing against DK and Diddy on N64 DK Jungle Parkway while they would spam only banana's at you and even driving on Mushroom Gouge in reverse (with additional ramps to get enough height onto the giant mushrooms). Online racing was really pretty good (for the Wii as a whole) and was lucky enough to not encounter any cheaters (or was unaware of them blending in and not being obvious), time trails could be shared online and compared regionally/worldwide. Mii integration in this game is pretty funny as well. Snaking was removed but bikes using the wheelie everywhere became the new speed exploit. It also introduced 3 new gimmicky items, they were mostly crap and have not returned since (can you even remember them?)

> Wii U. Introduces "anti-gravity" allowing for more wild track designs and to stop people thinking about F-Zero. HD versions of old tracks a really, really good, especially the N64 ones. AI's a good challenge but has a character select screen with too much copy/paste characters (rushed development?) Can only use 1 item at a time which certainly creates more risk when dropping an item you could use to defend yourself with. Battle mode continues it's downward spiral by not even having it's own stages but only uses 8 self contained "forwards/backward loop" racetracks. MK8 was most likely rushed as 6 of those 8 are Retro tracks and DLC tracks have still not been added. The rule system for Battle mode is good but the stage selection is shit, Battle need self contained arena's not a loopy racetrack. Online is pretty nice, MKTV is a nice feature. 200cc is great.

You can turn off items in 8 to remove that extra bullshit. But then why play Mario Kart?

also nice bait, since DS and SNES were digital input only.

Transformed or the first one? And where's DKR fit? CTR's adventure mode is still the best. I can't believe it took me this long to realise that Super Tux Kart was trying to emulate CTR.

none

gay

To me, every Mario Kart dies when a new one gets launched:

If you want to mix them all, which attributes would like to add?

i bet you never even beat the flagship you fucking casual

DS is definitely great, but I have a soft spot for Super Circuit. It was the first console game I ever actually owned.

100% 8. Anyone who says otherwise is blinded by nostalgia.

pretty weak rainbow road though. the throwback rainbow roads are nice but way too short

I kinda agree there, but I can see what they wanted to do with the new rainbow road. It's redeemed though with the fucking amazing looking 64 rainbow road though

also, 8's rainbow road is hard for the inexperienced, which is a nice change from other rainbow roads.

...

i like the idea of 8s rainbow road, it just isnt colorful and festive enough. sonic colors did a better space station themed rainbow road.

Gotta say that I like Double Dash the most but how I'd rate them personally…

DD>DS>SNES>7=8>64>SS>Wii>>>>>>>Arcade shit

As someone who actually bought it, its worth a pirate or a purchase if you can get it for a real low price (which isn't terribly hard considering its pretty old and goes on sale everywhere constantly). I mean, I wouldn't say its better than Double Dash or DS, but definitely nice. Plus it has the best remix of the SNES RR song IMHO, so that's good too.

Sage for double post

...

8's control, 64's uncanny aesthetics

Oh and Double Dash's… double system
and tournament mode

Well?

I liked 64 the best. Friendships were ruined over this game.

friendships lost over mario kart instead of party must have been on thin ice

Especially since Double Dash co-op repairs them.

And online mod, thought is gonna get killed.

Not Mario Kart 7.

All of them would be better if they reduced all the fucking bullshit. Even the most casual casuals hate this shit.

Double Dash
First time karts felt good
Was an actual improvement over the overused formula of karting games
Could play with a friend in the same kart or vs using two
And it had Petey Piranha and King Boo, the two objectively best characters of the nintendo GC era

Thanks, user.

As I said in this post I can't remember any "obvious" cheaters in MK Wii. But I'll add more detail to what I saw.

Playing with 11 other humans actually seemed fairer then going up against 11 AI. It usually felt like when I was in first it would be a massive lead while the others were fighting among themselves with an occasional Spiny heading my way but not doing much to slow my lead. And had also observed the reverse situation, being in 2nd or under and the person in 1st would separate from the rest with a good lead causing every else to fight each

I did however encounter cheating in the DS version that wasn't snaking. One time me and the other racers got harrased by a guy with triple bob-ombs, that kart with zoom at high speed dropping them everywhere even at the finish line. Where I somehow managed to get first place despite this.

Another time in the lobby a guy managed to select a stage that should have been playable and possibly after that even selected a Battle stage (I think Block Fort) but didn't get voted through.

Saw a guy with like 150 wins and zero losses on his namecard, he then immediately zoomed off and did some impressive snaking.

While I kept hearing about other say they saw dicks used as decals I only ever saw a single one.

How asshurt were people about 4 Marios, 4 babies and no Diddy Kong in 8?

How do you possibly make a roster that fucking shit?

DS.

Coin Kart 8 just pisses me off most of the time.

...

me to buddy. I'd still play it if the servers were up

Transformed. DKR = CTR.

Sure is neo/v/ around here.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates the stupid coin mechanic.

...

He probably went to the wrong QPU

Alright fags, here's the tough one.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TRACK IN THE ENTIRE SERIES?

Rainbow road is for faggots.

pic related of course, de_dust2 is the best track of all time.

Mushroom Bridge, Daisy Cruiser or Airship Fortress.

Eat a bag of dicks.

Rainbow road

Mario, much like Nintendo itself, peaked with the N64.

Baby Park

Why did they remove the Blue Shell's wings? Spiny was so satisfying to blow someone the fuck out with knowing it inescapably locked on.

I like Double Dash a lot and I had fun playing 8 online.

Most of the others are good too.

Didy Kong Racing.

Wasn't MK64 one of the worst though?

hes a good sport and letting the other drivers have a chance to win

I'd say Wii is my favourite, but I never really played DD because I didn't have a Gamecube.

Don't forget about Pink Gold Peach.

What the fuck were they even thinking with that? Literal only redeeming factor is her being more expressive and cocky than regular Peach.

I can't even imagine porn when I don't even know what the fuck she's supposed to be.

The newest one is the best one since it has access to DLC.

That's a weird way of spelling Gamecube.

Do shills not know shit about blending in?

SMK, MK64 and MKDS.

Competitive Melee commentary doesn't automatically make GameCube the best.
