Game company doesn't get much money for their work, especially not when they produced the game that you actually liked

Can someone link me to some dolphin porn?

I want to create a few fake torrents.

Get a real job.

your game is probably not even worth pirating OP
get a real job

RIP

Are you the ring runner guy? Why are you so touchy about pirating?

Section 8 Prejudice?

Get a real job.

Yes

...

test

This, OP is a fag.

...

Don't create total shit or overhype mediocre shit, and people won't pirate your game when its cheap.
Just because you've made a game doesn't mean people are bound to pay for it. If its awful, people don't want to pay for it.

Fuck marketing.

It's a shame what happened to that game. I'm still looking for a copy to at least play the tutorial "single player campaign"

On a not entirely related but similar sentiment I hate that the Marathon series is so criminally underrated and the community only consists of 30 something Apple oldfags. I love Doom but Marathon seriously deserves more recognition.

You do realise indie games are volatile as fuck, right?

There's plenty of shit but successful games such as Hotline Miami and Risk of Rain, which somehow appeal to Holla Forums despite being exactly the sorts of games that many Holla Forums users hate.

Then there's plenty of unheard of gems.

It's not necessarily a case that as long as a dev makes a great game it will sell well.

make better games, then people would pay for it.

Blame capitalism

Name one genuinely great indie game that hasn't sold well.

I'll wait.

...

Would you consider Shootmania to be a great game?

Pretty sure Tower of Guns sold decently. I bet it did better than that overhyped sack of shit Ziggurat.
Ring Runner is criminally underrated though, which is why I want to have a torrent up for people to actually play it and then buy it. For whatever reason the majority of Holla Forums isn't really that acceptive to a demo unless it's an /agdg/ build.
And spiderweb? You fucking with me? Pretty sure everyone on Holla Forums knows of at least Geneforge.

RoR's from /agdg/, though. That's one of the only reasons it gets a free pass here. Any HM game besides the original, not-so-much.

There are HM games besides 2? Did Midnight animal release or what?

Oh, Ronin is an excellent game that's been written off as a subpar gunpoint clone because it replaces RPS humor for some actual gameplay.

Surely the server can be in part reverse-engineered and in part recreated. Or the sources can get leaked. If it is truly such an enjoyable game, there must be autists who want that happen and know how to do it.

...

S8 died because it forced the player to endure GFWL. Why would we tolerate console-like conditions?

Memeforge? Nah, it got its due.

Just fuck off back to reddit already.

Section 8 was fun as shit user, I feel your pain.

Motherfucker people don't want to buy a game they don't know. No matter how good it actually is, or how well you sell it, Holla Forums doesn't respond to that shit. Post a torrent or the link, have them play it and if they'll buy it then they'll buy it. If you want to go full baby mode about pirates then do it in a LOL thread or something so you don't gut your own Ring Runner thread. You dislike piracy, fine. I think you're an idiot but that's fine. Keep it yourself, what the fuck is it to you if people even buy Ring Runner? The devs are already making a new game so it doesn't seem they've died off or anything. And Popup dungeon is a kickstarter title AND they've got a nice fat 102k to work on it.

Hotline miami gets around niggling issues that people usually harp, like pixelshit graphics, because it's fun.

This thread is shit and has no topic and you should all be saging though.

Ronin is fucking shit though. The controls aren't nearly as precise as they need to be and it's unpredictable as fuck in random spots.

Unless the game provides some good feature that I otherwise wouldn't be able to get in a pirated version, then I have no reason not to pirate. After playing the leaked Dragon's Dogma, I ended up pre-ordering it because I wanted to use the pawn system to its fullest extent and to get all the goodies since I knew it was a game I enjoyed.

See that's the stuff that gets to me. How bad are you to actually believe this? Unpredictable? If anything a fault I had with the game was it was actually too predictable. And how aren't the controls precise? They give you a jump arc and shit and surprise surprise you actually do follow that jump arc.

Go back to 4chan, marketers and shills. Your kind are not welcome here.

I'd agree the controls are very precise, but it can seem like they aren't when the game's unpredictable.
It can be hard to be sure if you won't bump into a person or land on a wall when your path goes very close by.

Jotaro pls

your game is shit OP

/thread
btw this is OP, as well as picrelated.

your game is probably so shit that I would be happy getting dolphin porn instead. Kill yourself or make a better game, faggot

you first

who is this semen demon?

lets see some sources

Terraria has sold over 18 million copies across all platforms, over 7.5 million were sold on Steam

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terraria#Sales
steamspy.com/app/105600

And yet it's far from the funnest indie game I've ever seen.

StarBound was honestly on the right course when it wasn't being what Terraria was.

Terraria stops being fun when spelunking is trivial, and that's pretty quick since lighting is trivial to start with (torch spam is easy), and you can get a cloud in a bottle very quickly.

Starbound keeps spelunking as non-trivial for a lot longer than Terraria does which is great, but otherwise it's a lot like Terraria.

Star Ruler 2 is a pretty complete game with the expansion. It really should have done better, but making a game that's completely mechanically different from the first and calling it a sequel despite the first being a niche success primarily because of the mechanics they ditched was a weird choice.

If your game is shit people won't buy it OP, even for a dollar

...

Has it ever occurred to you that the majority of people who pirate a game were never planning on buying it to begin with and it makes no difference if the game was available as a torrent or not?

Research shows 90 percent of game sales happen within the first month

I can understand why a torrent would do little to impact the sales of a $60 game; getting it legitimately is a hefty purchase.

But $1 for a good game tens of hours long is practically free, and only total assholes feel that somehow 5 cents an hour is too much for a game as a $2 bag of cheesy snacks becomes one with their bodily fat.

There is no "just a dollar" on digital services. In order to get that dollar onto steam I need to either drive to the nearest walmart or CVS because nowhere within walking distance sells steam cards, then waste 20 dollars because that's the cheapest card they have, or give my money to the bank so they can give me a debit card they'll overcharge me for and be forced to pay a fee every time I try to make a purchase and once monthly.
I wait once a year for a sale and buy a steam card and binge buy all the games I pirated that I liked, I'm sorry if your "gem" wasn't on that list, dev-kun.

Terraria is fun but not great. Too much grinding and it's like you said, the pool of loot available from spelunking, the most fun activity, is very limited and doesn't extend into hardmode.

sage

The treasure loot pool, I mean

I dunno dude, the reremakes are selling well enough to fund development of the next game. Depends on your definition of selling well.

Also, honest question, how do you get by without a debit card?

You mean the second one?

Most "indie games" that its creators think are good, underappreciated gems are actually terrible. If Vince "why don't you educate your fucking stupid ass readers" D. Weller can make enough money to stay in business with a CYOA that legitimately punches players in the nuts, other indie developers making far more casual games have no excuse.

Do something that actually benefits society, then. Video games are a net drain on our civilization.

Run everything in cash, checks, and disposable gift cards

99% of the time though those faux-gems are in a retro style.
It seems like indie games that aren't in that style _usually_ succeed.

This has happened way too many times and I can only blame myself
KSP, Arma 3, ETS, DiRT Rally just to name a few

Fucking 24h captcha

Still, if you had fun for countless hours, it was definitely a worthy purchase.
