I'm actually interested a lot in brushwork, drafting, and watercolor painting.
I suggest that you make an account on cgpeers. There's a lot of video tutorials you can download that range from absolute beginner to professional. Also, e-books and .pdfs from mid-century masters like Hogarth.
A lot of the files there are for digital work, but the same theories apply to traditional work.
In my opinion, you can make anything look good so long as it has good composition and color theory. Once you master that, then you can start hammering out the technical side of drawing (perspective and anatomy) then, your own unique style and preferences will naturally develop from there.

I know absolutely nothing about pottery outside of once making a clay pencil holder in elementary art class.

If you learn traditional skills, your future is in commercial art working in advertising or something similar. The truth of art lies somewhere between "beauty" and "novelty." Art exists where you can help people see the world in a new way while providing a transcendental experience. It's not possible to provide a transcendental experience through traditional techniques; after all, that experience can easily be had by going to a museum showing traditional artworks.

So for learning painting, split your time between raw, childlike playful experimentation and copying artworks that you find beautiful. As you develop, try to merge the techniques you learned from copying with the playfulness you developed.

I'm not a poet, so I can't really speak for poetry, but I suspect it is something similar.

I personally love to make glass mosaics. Glass is fun because you get these big rectangular sheets that you break into random and odd sized pieces. It makes things irregular so you can force some natural form into it if you want.
You can do anything really. But I will say that the medium is better suited for broad shapes and color and not fine detail.

Also if you don't want fruity things you can go dark with it. Dark with some centralized bright colors can be really powerful.

That's an idea. I think I'll start out smaller with less colors (I don't want to buy a shitload of different color sequins if I end up not liking it). I'm thinking of making some runes or symbols like the black sun.

Ah, this is my childhood. My great grandmother used to work with glass. She'd make tiny jewelry boxes with colored glass. Angels, doll houses, chimes, etc. Her glass work was mostly 3 dimensional, but there were mosaics just like that she made for our church and for her windows and decorations for friends/family. Whenever we'd visit my siblings and I made ceramic mosaics with her (since we weren't allowed to touch glass)
I'd probably want to make ceramic art again, but plastic sequins would be cheaper and right now I am too strapped for cash to make the investment for tiles and grout.
