Did you ever stuck playing the same shitty online game for years?

Did you ever stuck playing the same shitty online game for years?
I still take breaks once in a while to play something popping up like Dark Souls 3 or EDF, but in the end I return to grinding in PSO2. It's not even that good objectively, but it does almost everything right for me and I always end up finding myself in there.
I honestly have no idea what will I do with my life when/if it closes.

PSO2 is just comfy

I keep on trying out new MMOs, like BDO or ESO, but I always end up going back to PSO2 to play some emergency quests with 7-11.

I just started playing Neverwinter and have been finding it a lot more fun than I thought I would. Looking at reviews online the game is pretty good and fun up until endgame where it turns into a P2W shithole. I'm enjoying just soloing the story missions though and I get the feeling i'm going to keep coming back to this for a long time.

FFXIV has me really good. It doesn't help that I somehow became the defacto leader of a FC/guild when I would rather be a hermit in game and decorate my house and apartment.

Yes, and this has barely stopped being shit in years, now being a slightly better but still smelly shit overall.
Such are addictions I suppose

Played it for a good while, stopped when my relic of a GPU started regularly trying to cremate itself.
Came back later and stuck with it until the fucking Second Dream update ruined everything.
I'm still fucking mad.

Team Fortress 2 from Sept. 2012-Dec. 2015. I feel like I wasted far more time than I should have. To make things worse, I spent more than half that time trading. 2165 hours is how much time I've put into the game. I still find myself playing the game at least once a month.

I'm still playing runescape all these years later

Is Star Trek Online any good? I'm just looking for a game where I can command my own starship and be comfy. I'm downloading it now so I kind of want to know what I'm in for.

is it considered canon? I dig the fuck out of these new uniforms.

Isn't it called a comfort game or something?
Player gets used to the environment so much it becomes hit virtual comfort zone rather than entertainment.

Amount of freedom they give you with designing you room is absurd. I think only dedicated games like Sims and TES Mods go beyond that.

Compared to all the WoW clones or garbage like Tera, I really don't see what's so horrifically bad about PSO2 aside from the drop rates (two years between implementation of 13 star weapons and the first time I got one). I guess I just didn't have the PSO nostalgia goggles, having only played it on a private serve, so I could enjoy PSO2 for what it was instead of hating it for not being PSO 1.5: HD Remix.

Allegedly, you allegedly played a game for long periods of time.

You mean haters whining about muh pso1?
You can't blame them. They wanted PSO2, especially since it's called exactly that, but got something completely different.
They just deal with it and fuck off back to their game though.

PSO2 is more of a mix between Vindictus and Warframe but with most bad things removed, while PSO1 was literally space anime diablo clone. On that note we really do need a pretty anime-styled diablo clone with modern graphics and shit.

I logged around 200 hours in the game back in the day.

Bad Points:
A lot of the good/unique shit (special ships) is p2w. There is a credit shop to buy some skins / ships, but there is also the bullshit lockbox drops.

There are a lot of unique ships (Galor class for example) that have a chance to be in the lockbox, which drops sporadically. To unlock the lockboxes, you have to buy keys at a rate of 1.25 USD per key.

It is pretty high tier kikery that is totally not gambling in any sense or form.

The ground combat is shit.

Good Points:
You can make your dream harem of female bridge officers and away team.

Leveling is pretty fast, end game not so much.

Can customize ship paint job to a point.

You get a free ship every 10 levels.

...

No you retard, PSO2 is an anime style diablo clone
Level design was both randomly/proceduraly genrated as well as having some static levels; this is the same as PSO2, whereas PSO had only static level layouts.
PSO is anything but "anime" even more noticeably when compared to PSO2 which LITERALLY HAS FUCKING ANIME CHARACTERS IN IT

In PSO weapons were bound to certain class and there were in fact some cross class weapons, however unlike PSO2; where cross class weapons cannot be used to the fullest of their extent unless one has a corresponding sub class, there is no limit on what a player can do with a weapon that their character can equip allowing for more diverse play styles.
Excluding some of the multiclass weapons that are very rare, for example the Inferno Bazooka, a shotgun that can be equip by most of the Fo calsses, here is a break down of equitable weapon types.
Saber
Sword
Dagger
Partisan
Slicer
Handgun
Rifle
Mechgun

In PSO each class got at least 7 weapons, in PSO2 only Hu/Fi or Fi/Hu can use 7 weapons, and in order for any class to use at least 6 they have to take Hu or Fi as one of their classes, and if a player wants to play Ra/Gu, Gu/Ra, Fo/Te, Te/Fo they only get 4 weapon types, players can get 5 weapons if they have Br and Ra, Gu, Fo, or Te and 6 weapons only if they have Br and Hu or Fi

In PSO2 you are heavily penalized if you don't want to use Hu or Fi in terms of variety of gameplay.

Ok, how about we compare Grim Dawn to Bayonetta 2 now, you seem to be pretty good at this.

it might not be moe but not anime get your eyes checked my dude
might wanna go to the doctor for alzheimers my man
you might need to see a therapist to deal with that denial my brother
maybe you need to see to go to a priest for a confessional my nigga

You can always kill yourself

having just gotten around to playing the episode 4 story this image is fucking hilarious

It gets even better

Not until I played Defense of the Autism 2: Literal Cult Boogaloo. I have never disliked a video game community so much. Fucking LoL has a better community. Fucking furry porn has a better community. Fucking Sonic has a better community.

It's basically what would happen if you took a bunch of random members of Westboro Baptist Church, Scientology, baby boomers, LoL players, and people with paranoid schizophrenia and mashed them up into a video game community. Playing games of Dota or talking about it with anyone who plays it legitimately feels like being one of the protagonists in Idiocracy. I have never been more unhappy while playing a video game for the four years I played it. Make me play some furry vore guro shit for 4 hours, I'll still be happier. Never again.

I tried to understand appeal of DOTA and the likes for years, but still fail to do so.
I can understand why people like Starcraft or Diablo or Overwatch, but the combination of most basic, most boring parts of those is so offputting that DOTA becoming such a huge and successful genre boggles my mind.
I don't really hate it, since I don't play it and don't have to deal with the community, but its success is way over my head.

What I initially liked about it how it felt like a "combat sandbox" of sorts. You could mix and match crazy shit on heroes and do cool stuff. Then I tried learning the game and feel in love with teamfighting and ratting. Landing 5-man black holes is awesome. Taking two sets of rax while the enemy team is fighting yours across the map is awesome. In other words, I had the approach of a guy who didn't like RPG's and thought (still do think) that MMO's are a horrible game genre. The shitty community made more sense when I tried WoW later on, players there were watered-down versions of this shit.

What stopped it from being awesome over time was a combination of the community getting shittier and the patches making the annoying parts of the game unbearable while the cool shit happened less often. Essentially, it was a bunch of cushioning for the kinds of jackasses who pick carries every match and then proceed to do nothing but feed, or not get anything when given freefarm until the whole game started being focused around that. Even with QoL benefits for everything else, it's just too easy to pick the flavor of the month ganker semicarry, snowball out of control with them using the standard item build, win game. Or lose game horribly and then get thrown a 1000+ gold welfare check per kill because your hero does obscene amounts of damage with nothing despite their gold disadvantage.

It got to the point where nobody, even the devs, knew what they were doing anymore. Nobody theorycrafts, does math, they just mass-parrot opinions they heard on reddit and ignore anything else until a pro does it. Then it's the gospel truth, what do you mean you got chased out like a heretic when you called this shit months ago? And don't even mention another assfaggots. It makes me mad not because of the game itself, but because of the scary mentality behind it that plagues my country in real life, but worse somehow.

Just to elaborate, I still like the custom games. You know you fucked up when a mod called Dota IMBA (one of the most popular ones as well) is more fun than the base game. Or Legends of Dota, which is essentially Dota given the Custom Robo treatment. Or any of the crazy non-Dota shit, like ElementTD or Crumbling Island Arena.

There are ways to make the assfaggots formula cool, but I haven't see a lot of developers do them. What scares me even more is how vocal dotafags are. I swear they're teeming all over on the Battlerite subreddit, yeah yeah I know, trying to throw shitty suggestions at the devs because Dota had them. I'd rather take an influx of LoLbabbies like OW did than Dotafags.

...

I played a Roman, text based MUD for well over a decade.

I've played Ragnarok online on official servers on and off since closed beta. It's sad there's no new games like it. Why does everything have to be a WoW clone?

heh, I spent nigh-on a decade in FurryMUCK and Tapestries (another furry smut MUCK). on-and-off though.

I can't stop playing PSO2
I have over 1200 hours on just one character.

i don't want to stop

Christ EP4 makes me so fucking mad. Phantasy Star might as well be the video game representation of the dramatic fall in quality of Japan as entertainment.

PSO1 came out right at the era of everyone trying to be like Evangelion so it was all very dark and melancholic, which still fit pretty well with what Phantasy Star was as a franchise.

PSU was at the era of Shonen-mania so it starred a shit idiot generic whitebread protagonist and common tropings, the portable titles at least did a bit of better work making the gameplay better and the overall lore around Gurhal was pretty ok.

Now PSO2 is just a downward spiral of moeblob bullshit. The gameplay at first was at least alright until the powercreep forever ruined it but the setting and story was just anime garbage. Now we're stuck in EP4 where shit doesn't even make any sense and it just kills me inside.

Phantasy Star was what got me to love space fantasy as a genre to begin with. I loved the genesis games and PSO1 so dearly. It breaks my heart to see how far it's fallen now with PSO2 where neither the gameplay or the story wants to give a fucking shit anymore. And that Japanese style of space fantasy is just nonexistent out of it. It's probably why I latched onto Xenoblade X way more than that game deserved just because I miss that type of setting and story when it still gave a shit.

CASTs aren't even fucking robots in PSO2, they're just the artificial bodies built for the souls of other races who couldn't handle photons to be ARKs and shit.

wait, what? Are you telling me my cute loli robot is actually an ayyy lmao?

Yeah the fucking Lore writer for PSO2 thought it would be way more clever if CASTs were literally casts for the soul.

Regius and Maria were both humans that sacrificed their original bodies for CASTs because their mortal bodies couldn't handle the sheer power. Not only that, all of the races are based on Human DNA and can form interacial relationships and families.

You could fuck a CAST in the pussy and make it pregnant, or get fucked by a CAST and be made pregnant. It's all fucking stupid.

I miss CASTs being just full on artifical life and having the cope with that fact.

I learned my lesson after PSU.

PSO is the only online RPG for me.

ok, fuck this, fuck grinding for the elphelt suit

PS series always run on average anime themes and style of its time, but PSO2 is anything but moeblob bullshit. Or do you imply that PSO1 players didn't abuse freedom to make cure lolies? They absolutely did.
And EP4 isn't any different from the rest of the game in terms of mood or characters or overall story progression, I wonder why it triggers autists so much. It feels absolutely organic and appropriate to the rest of the game.

Also
More like brains and spinal cords really, the same deal as in Metal Gear Rising, I don't see huge issues with it. And it also explains how CASTs can use techniques.

I've played Destiny almost every day since launch. I'm playing it right now. It's basically the game I've always wanted.

That's what I did. PSO hooked me for a long fucking time, and the only reason I don't still play it is because the servers are down. PSU was dogshit, but for the longest time, it was still better than pretty much every other online RPG out there - and closest I was going to get to PSO. Now I mostly stick with PSP2/PSP2 Infinity - which is basically just PSU but patched together with the good parts of PSO.

I tried PSO2 for a few months, but didn't really enjoy it - so I dropped it and never went back.

Casts should be able to use Techniques. They never could in the classic games, or in PSO, but had other abilities - like built-in weapon upgrades, traps, and in PSIV even had to use their own healing items/repair kits. It really helped diversify them as their own distinct race, and made gameplay interesting. (PSO on the DC had Casts also being immune to most status effects like Poison and Paralyze, but could be "shocked")

Phantasy Star Online's racial stat differences never really amounted to all that much, and with newer games making them mean even less - there is now nothing left to really differentiate them. They're just a boring reskin of a generic human.

Casts haven't been interesting since PSO v.2 on the DC.

Fucked that right up.

Options -> Sound -> Mute Operator
Operator -> Customize -> Tick the Hood Up box

Fixed.

I used to facepalm regarding a lot of things about Episode 4. Hitsugi was an annoying character, summoner was fucking weird and required tons of time to raise pets, and the story made no sense. After all, the Vegas update gave us the aliens from Independence Day teaming up with the killer clowns from outer space to bring a model of the statue of liberty to life and give it a sphinx to ride around Vegas. It made no fucking sense.
Then, I finally got my pets up to snuff and was wrecking shit with my sally, Vegas enemies turned out fun to fight since they act differently from any previous enemy, Enga is just the right mix of asshole and nice guy, and the latest story mission has Hitsugi manning the fuck up and explaining things like who Mother is. It finally feels like it makes sense now.

It's the same as EP1 really.
I cringed all the way until Elder erupted from that giant naberius dildo and shit hit the fan. I loved the story ever since.
Anime tends to do that for some reason - make some shitty comedy for a while and then turn everything on its head and go Gundam 79.
Not sure if there is a word for this.

My pawn support partner saw it differently.

Now that I think of it, that seal looks like gilgamesh sword from Fate series.

You shouldn't post things like that where someone from Sega can see it. It might make them do a sixth Fate collab.

Kancolle collab when?

Right after the Symphogear and Senran collabs.

Yeah, steam says I have around 1.5k hours in Path of Exile, sure, like half of those are idle and not even playing but I still go back to that shit game every expansion or content update. Well, at least I've only spent 10 bucks on it once, so I guess I got my money's worth.

Symphogear went downhill after season 1 really hard. They shouldn't have milked it.

Wait what, I know the devs are incompetent but I didn't know they were SJW.

been playing NW since closed beta, and if you played that long it's not a P2W… however this late in the game if you want to compete at end-game you realisticly need to spend $200 AND do some grindan to hit the 2500-3500 ilvl reqs for end-game quests etc. i think I spent $60 in closed-beta and bought the account-wide mount on special. also got some bonus account-wide augment stone.

some of the daily quests are comfy. however, they pulled some bullshit where they removed the original end-game dungeons and then brought them back as void husks of their former selves. the new castle never can suck a fucking dick. they cut out the 2/3 of the dungeon and specifically they removed the entire Shadowfell segment
