The only problem is no script extender. the SKSE guys will probably just use the one they made for fallout 4 though. I think you underestimate how much modders enjoyed skyrim. Is it a "good" game? No. Does it have a lot of shit to fuck around with and enough leeway to make some good stuff for it? Yes.

Large but claustrophobic rooms connected by linear corridors in interconnected ways that are actually interesting. And throw in a large "planet surface area" that is pretty chill and which acts as a sort of hub where many of the corridor exits meet up. Like Dark Souls 1 managed to do pretty damn well in 3D, not so much Other M. Prime 1 and 2 did this well but the rooms were quite small and don't have the "sprawling alien planet" feel that 1, 2, and Super had. Scan visor to act as purely optional help and a 100% completion thing. Make it third person with a focus on agility, and make combat similar to the old Tomb Raider games but faster paced, where once locked on shooting was almost automatic but the goal was to evade using jumps and rolls and stuff to keep yourself out of danger while still firing away. Keep the 2D morph ball puzzle segments from Prime, and use the morph ball during combat as a way to avoid enemy lock on and confuse them (which leaves you hard to hit but also takes almost all your offense away and when you do get hit it can fuck you up). The story should be about actually bounty hunting stuff, just to make for a change. Metroids still show up but are not the main threat.

And it goes without saying that Sakamoto stays the hell away.

That's the kind of question that requires a lot of thought to be put into it. And I definitely don't think I have all the answers. But there is a small list of things I would like to see in a Metroid that tries to achieve the same ambition as BoTW, and it looks a little like this:
Samus is a bounty hunter yet we're never tasked with taking down smuggler freighters, fighting Space Pirates or hunting giant monsters that are terrorizing small colonies.
In essence, what I want from a new Metroid is to do what BoTW is doing. Recreate the feeling of the original NES game that the series has strayed so far from. With unique additions, additions that fans have always wanted(like the ability to pilot the gunship and actually hunt bounties) and a ridiculous attention to detail and to make it with a lot of love and care. Like I said, this is a question that requires a lot of thought put into on the same level as an essay. I could probably make a two hour video discussing it if I wanted to put that much thought and effort into it. And who knows, maybe I will after making this long, elaborate post?

i wrote a thing about how you might want to start but i realized you'd probably have more fun getting gud, so my advice is get as many meatbags as you can and try to live on the edge of your combat capability, its fine if you lose a few shitters on the way to the big payday, there are a number of ways to go about that, figure it out. Have a guy specialize in stealth so you can steal and sneak if things call for it. Easymode start is in the spoiler.

for maximum newfag fun i recommend using the free traders start with all humans, anything less means you really need to know what you're doing to get off the ground. free traders gives you breathing room and you can sacrifice a few characters if you need to survive, and being human gives you access to holy nation lands which makes for easy farms and somewhat secure life

Next, figure out a stable source of income. the easiest but most boring is mining on the outskirts of towns, as free traders consider setting up a small farm to get your food needs taken care of. From there get more guys, have some dedicated farmers and, send out hunting parties to train and collect shit. Eventually when your happy with your combat party, you have free reign to pick a direction and see if you can find something to better your sitution. youll probably die though, its fine, just ragequit the game or hire more guys and get revenge.
