It's a slightly simplified military pilot trainer. Go play ace combat if you want a game with jet fighters.

when will this ever fucking end

I quite like euro truck simulator. Fun to play when drunk and depressed.

I'de move to pot if I had the balls to grow it myself.

I haven't played since before World, can I use my existing A-10C and Black Shark games with it?

...

Sounds like you're just a retarded manchild who can't learn procedures.

Yes

Exactly like trucking in real life!

How's it DLC though. The base is free and you buy a plane you get the plane. You don't buy extra rockets for the plane or skins for the plane.

Why are you arguing with a moron?

Did you even notice thatwhenever a simulator thread pops up a bunch of retards come in whining about it being autistic and trying to denigrate the game any way they can? It's because deep down they know they are scrubs who can't be bothered to put in effort into anything to enjoy it.

*AIM-120 behind you*
nothing personnel, kid

because flightsim threads are so slow and die so fast I might as well talk about something. Anything to keep the thread alive and maybe attract some people.

Can anyone reccomend some good flight sticks $20-40? Or will I am I just too poor?

Godspeed, slavman ;_;7

Does DCS have carriers in it? I've been playing the shit out of Arma with the nimitz mod and I need something that isn't jury-rigged dog shit held together by spit and prayers.

I fucking love carriers

The SU-33 is carrier capable but it's flight model is old as fuck. Back from the LOMAC days. It has stupid sexy cannards tho.

meant "its"

mfw

I know the SU-27 has the hooks and shit and can land on a carrier. Not sure if the carriers are functional as in if you can rearm at them. It even has the more advanced flight model. Don't know why decided to bring up the SU-33 instead.

SU-27 is not carrier capable in DCS, thought i THINK there is a mod to add the hook

Does he go on about Cheeki to Breeki missiles at all?

Thanks user, I'll check it out.
F-14 doesn't get enough love

I didn't see the engagement

SOON®

Huh, I've only seen people do it in videos. Never heard talk of a mod. Disregard me then, I'm an idiot.

HEY, DIPSHIT. THAT’S WHAT DLC IS.

what's a video game then

Fuck user you missed out.
Last time I played I encountered a crazy ass Ivan who would go on about getting Western Capitalist Pigs with his Cheeki to Breeki Missiles

...

Isn't it supposed to come out next springish?
Now I just need to make a friend to be my RIO and I can live my dreams

Better spend a night and a day on encoding friendo, failure is not an option.

next spring means nothing in the DCS universe.

Yeah when I posted that I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be this past spring or next spring anyway. I guess I'll just settle on "spring" since its vague enough to be correct.

You guys are unicorns here.

Logitech 3D Extreme Pro. It's been my stick since I played Fighter Ace in the early 2000s.

everyone says to me that if you don't play with a HOTAS then you suck shit and aren't feeling the full experience.

Thrustmaster T.16000M

But the 3D Pro has a throttle you can technically keep a hand on.

Also really, unless you have VR or a really good multi monitor setup theres no point in dumping money into a full HOTAS setup.

I played it a while ago, but it was accidentally nuked along with a couple other games. Should I go with 1.5 or 2.0?

You can buy small upgrades to the base game, in this case, planes. That's a DLC, faggot.

No they're expansion packs

People don't want to play flight sims because of memes saying they are "too hard XDDD" so they have to get the money from somewhere.

Also they are expansion packs.

Are you retarded?
So? I get they need to make money somehow, the base game itself is free after all, but it does not mean it isn't a DLC.
DLC doesn't automatically mean scam, DLC is a paid downloadable content, in other words, exactly what this is, no need to get all upset over it.

Well, yes.

The missions, versatility, mods, and even the mere complexity you get in even one plane is essentially a game in itself. The F-86F Sabre, for instance, is a very intricate plane, and in DCS it is detailed all the way to full realism. The flight models are approved by real F-86F pilots and wind tunnel testing. As a real pilot would, it could take a year to master it.

Are you seriously trying to sit here and argue we should call expansion packs DLC?

And an expansion pack is a pack that expands the game. Now would you care to elucidate us all on what exactly the fucking difference is?

Hard mode: No adjectives

No, I'm just saying it's wrong to say it isn't a DLC.
DLC is a generic therm, whereas expansion pack is a mostly subjective term, usually used for extra content which considerably expands the game. They're not mutually inclusive, nor mutually exclusive.
Though I do agree it is an expansion pack, since it does adds missions and whatnot, like said.

If there's no difference, doesn't that mean that's what YOU are saying?

It's such a bullshit term though, I'm against using it on principle because it was used to dial down peoples expectations from expansion packs. It was deliberately hoisted up as an alternative to expansion packs, I'm sure you remember all those faggy articles about how expansion packs are dead forever because you can buy digital sandals with real money. You can consider shit on facebook as "downloadable content", the term is too vague.

This just isn't true because of how much more specific the definition of "expansion pack" is compared to "downloadable content" porn.

I know this is mostly marketing bullshit rumpling my autism but the autism is rumpled nonetheless. Words are important and they slyly changed the definitions of a couple so they could give us less game for more money.

There is no technical difference but there is definitely a perceived one.

Before when there wasn't DCS World and no concept of modules, would they have still been DLC/expansion packs back then? When I bought the Ka-50 (and I think even the A-10C) it was a separate install and it's own executable.

Honestly we should just call them modules since that's what they call them and that's the most descriptive term I think since they plug into the main body and give you that part of the simulation.

2.0 requires the Nevada map which is a separate purchase (unless you pre-purchased the A-10C before 2011). They'll be adding the Caucasus map to 2.0 once they updated it to the same standard as NTTR as far I know. No idea when that's happening though.

Price, value, availability, DRM, ownership, consumer rights.

That's only your opinion though. It is a really broad term which got corrupted into "40 bucks weapon skin", but it still is correct to say it is.
DLC has a really specific definition, is it's just broad. Expansion Pack's definition is not as specific, leaving people with more room to fight about what is or isn't an expansion pack.

DLC is a downloadable content for a game. That's mostly subjective , but I think it's not, since it's a standalone thing.
Alright, I'll keep to 1.5 since I'm a jew then, thanks.

Like I said,
They're different terms.
Expansion pack refers to the size of the content, DLC refers to the media of the content.
An expansion pack can be a DLC or not, and a DLC can be an expansion pack or not.

I like this discussion.

Yeah well my opinion is the only right one damnit.

My biggest issue with the term is that anything on the internet can be called downloadable content. Some movies even come with "DLC" nowadays.

This is a tad contradictory user.

It's a lot more specific than "downloadable content" IE the entire internet. I don't think anyone would argue that Forged Alliance was not an expansion pack but a couple years earlier you have Shivering Isles and that caused a massive uproar on whether it was DLC or an expansion and they both add massive amounts of content to their base games. I think it's getting to the point where if it releases on a console its DLC but on PC its an expansion pack now.

Not a single one of those things is exclusive to one or the other.

I think this would be easier if we changed the acronym in this case.

"DLC" should be "DRM Locked Content" not "Downloadable Content".

Look at how it is handled. Games like Mortal Combat X and Mass Effect shipping with the content already on the disc, and you needing to pay to access it.

Don't remind me of that shit. That is one of the lowest lows this industry reached and people just took it lying down.

Me too. It's one of the first discussions I've had that is actually related to the board.

I think your opinion is right, it just so happens mine is more correct.
That's what I mean by a broad term.
DLC is like the word "vehicle", as in, it's an specific term, there is no room for debate if you go by it's definition, but that strict definition still encompasses a lot of thing.
I know, I kind of fucked up on the wording. I meant to say that the definition itself is more specific on DLC, as opposed to expansion pack's loose definition. The meaning itself is another matter.
>IE the entire internet
I'm not sure if it was always like this, but DLC refers to paid extra content which you need to download. So the internet itself wouldn't count since you don't shouldn't need to pay for the sites themselves.
Just like now.

Funny how that takes the "downloadable content" out of "DLC".

So my favorite so far is the MiG-21bis because Vodka cooled radar array, and big comfy radar scope.

The F-86 has a better, comfier radar scope

your eyes

Quick reminder that even the Steam version of DCS uses Starforce with a hard 10 times activation/de-activation limit.

Avoid that shit at all cost!

Hey, dipshit, you get a whole detailed simulator of that plane. Some modules are obviously better/more detailed than others (A10c over F15), but even the ones with the least amount of detail are complex and require lots of learning. They also come bundeled for cheap in the flaming cliffs expansion.
If you can't wait for a sale and get a plane or two for $30, how thee fuck can you afford a PC to run the game then? It's not the easiest on your hardware, and you pretty much require a HOTAS/track-IR setup for anything that is not the A-10 (fucking shit that plane is simple to fly).

Just upload it to mixtape or uguu or something

Hey, dipshit, it’s DLC. Look at this fucking faggot defending DLC.

OH SHIT! You're right. I forgot about that weeb upload site.

I'll upload it in an hour when I'm home from work.

Mechwarrior4 had mech packs
Those were expansion packs
Expansion packs are now called DLC

Although you could argue that DLC deals heavily in micro-transactions for split apart content where expansion packs provided fully fleshed content

Making DCS content packs more akin to the expansion packs of old while still technically being DLC

Posting best flight video.

Thoughts? For a Frankenstein's monster of a fighter the J-20 seems to fly pretty good. Guess stealing those MiG-1.44 and F-35C plans really did pay off.

Basically the same video but from another angle

Bumping with COMFY

Any suggestions for headtracking that works and is not the overpriced over 7-year-old garbage that is trackir?

*recommendations
lern2engrishneed some sleep

You can always make your own. I had facetrackir or whatever the fuck its called working a while ago, it was decent but it would have been a simple thing to whip together an IR headset to make it work pretty much flawlessly. Just need a good cheap webcam, PS3 eye is best since it records at 60fps and you can usually find it for under $20, you just need to remove the IR filter. There are tons of guides out there.

TrackIR works best.

You can email Eagle Dynamics to reset the activation counter as many times as you want.

You can make your own device. Look up FreeTrack. As someone who has tried FaceTrackNoIR, FreeTrack and TrackIR, TrackIR is easily the best when it comes to software, hardware, quality and reliability of tracking.

fuck that is awful quality. fucking lower the resolution or something instead of making it such a terrible mess.

not really sure what was so "sicknasty" about it either. you got fucked up, didn't remember which button gives you an outside view of your plane and then opened the cockpit before ejecting for some reason. maybe I missed something that got lost in the bitrate massacre.

Don't be mean

I'm just giving it to you straight and how I see it. You want to be praised and patted on the back for bad effort try real life or Reddit. If your content isn't good, at least try to make the video quality so that it doesn't look like someone chewed it. Just a resolution change to 1280x720 cuts the filesize by 10 mb and actually makes it more watchable with this bitrate.

Actually I just thought everything moving around on screen looked cool that's all.

Also I blew off the top because the emergency canopy release is there. And I did know which button I needed to look at my plane from outside, but my trackIR being on always causes it to be off center unless I cycle it multiple times

Fair enough I guess. Now you just need to learn how to make webms.

Tell me how to make it 720p like you suggested.

Doesn't this garbage run on a 32bit engine?

No.

Without a screenshot of your task manager I won't believe you.

...

Why do you hate yourself? I just hope you unplug your joystick when you play.

Actually I only installed it to see if my newly acquired TrackIr could make it fun

I was wrong, the sensitivity and unrealistic pacing of the game make it useless, as all the other pilots are in third person using mouse aim. Even in simulator battle is is too shit. DCS and FSX seem to welcome it though as the movement is smooth and natural

I will never not be buttmad about this. Especially when most people are so shit that the laser guided bullets aren't enough to save them. When I first got into the game I actually had the foolish notion that nobody played flight sims without a stick because of how shit it would be. That was a learning experience.

Alright now I'm intrigued

Fuck me, I want to get into this now.

I don't believe you.

Jesus fucking christ.

oyy lmao

I don't think anyone who actually has the time to invest into all of DCS worlds planes has the money to actually pay for them all. Never mind all the additional hardware.

Good idea there, I'll try it

shiggy

Why?

OP here. I bought mine fro $70 last week. And theres an ongoing deal from one guy on Ebay selling for ~$90

For DIY, if you fuck up the soldering it isn't gonna work. Taking the IR filter out is an incredible amount of work and effort too, and you might end up breaking the camera.

If you still insist, use this: youtube.com/watch?v=KsdF5TpCMjk

You pay $140 for the tracking software and sim-game integration, which is by far the best out there, the IR camera is just the dongle for it.

t. TrackIR 4:PRO owner

yeah that's pretty much the helicopter experience

Great!

HOL UP
WE DEM BOYZ
Sorry for no sound, it's straight from /simg/

whoops

seriously tho, you need to trim CONSTANTLY. Use alt+enter or whatever it is to bring up joystick axis

You didn't need to tell us where you're from.

I only go there for /hbg/ and /simg/

I know. Why has flying attack helicopters be so hard?

You should stay there

KA-50 is easy due to the co-axial rotor design

Where planes stay in the sky with grace helicopters are held up by a great big middle finger to gravity.

Unless you're skillful, high, and lucky enough to go into auto-rotation before hitting the ground.

I tried to join /simg/. It's just a bunch of assholes who're in a clique. They ignore you.

On one hand the autsimulation community here is so small I don't want to tell anyone to go away but on the other I really fucking hate 4vg and the memespouting circlejerks they turn into. Unless something has changed in the past years and that isn't the case anymore which I doubt very much.

so is the game fun or is it more along the lines of a hardcore simulator? Also, the DLC looks a little rough. Is it even playable without the DLC?

It's a simulator, user. And the core game comes with the Su-25T Frogfoot and the TF-51 Mustang. You can put some decent hours into the Frogfoot to learn basic jet controls and how to execute ground attack in slavshit and then move to the Mustang to understand how to fly piston aircraft. From there choose whatever module you like/can afford.

You shouldn't call it a game. It's a simulator with a lot of downtime and a hard learning curve.
The "DLC" is the game. It's not really DLC as the "DLC" used to be individual games until they released the free client to combine them so that crossplaying them would be possible. Read the start of the thread for the long discussion about the pointless semantics.

id be fucked to play dcs if they had piston bombers but untill then il stick to il2bos
I need someone to help me out though to relearn the game after getting grounded for six months,if anyone is interested hit my up

...

doesn't sound like my sort of thing then. Shame there is nothing comparable to Ace Combat for pc…

casual

user I play Ace Combat and DCS World, quit being a non-idort

Proper HOTAS gives you the advantage of having every common control on the stick and throttle. Stuff like weapons control, avionics etc. you can use without touching the keyboard. It helps a lot if you're in heat of combat.

bump

2 day ban coming

I just wish I could crank up the settings on my rig
Hell, after a few hours I even run out of memory

Wasn't there supposed to be an engine rework? Game sure doesn't run any better than it did years ago

I appreciate and hate these games at the same time.

They did update it to 64 bit like a year ago. Your computer just sucks dick I guess.

>fail
Is there an text-only tutorial for it?
Also, how do I land on uneven terrain without breaking the plane's nose?

you don't. That's what the landing strip is for.

I'm not sure to what degree this is realistic, but DCS planes can't even handle driving on grass.

Also you don;t land with engines off dude…

yeah, the manual

You don't? If you need to, cross your fingers and hope for the best. Flaring hard might work if you're landing on an upward slope or it might just wreck your tailend but either way you're not going to walk from that unscathed. I don't know why you'd turn off the engines for landing. How does that make sense?

Why do you need a text-only tutorial? There's text in the game. If you don't have the patience to read it then stop right now and go play something else. My best guess would be to look at the Steam guides or something, maybe someone has the transcribe. If you want just a general tutorial and not the exact transcribe of the ingame tutorial then there are a million guides and ofc the manual.

It sounds like you pushed a lot of buttons without knowing what they do. That's usually what causes your aircraft to catch on fire.

O-oh.
It's just something autistic I do on every game with planes, just turn the engines off and try to land as if both engines had went to shit.
I'm fine with reading, but it's annoying to have to wait for the guy to finish reading every single paragraph.
You mean the official one, right? I'll take a look at it, thanks.
Yes.

I do the same thing with the engines, you will have a much easier time if you start the APU instead of a full deadstick landing.

Quickest way to ease into your planefu is to check those "flying 'plane' for dummies easy". One you learn the basics then you really start learning how your plane works. Treat your plane better than you treat your woman.

What are you talking about?

Is it me or is the Su-25T shit?
I'm trying to get into maneuvers but it handles like a bus with wings, Immelmanns are doable, but unprecise, and split s are a shortcut to the ground.
Not only that, but every once in a while it decides to go ape shit and keep rolling left, which completely fucks me over when I'm not near a runway.

Well it's a ground attack plane. It's not supposed to be the most manoeuvrable and graceful jet. That being said, looking at your post before, I would have to account your problems most likely to user error.

I'm still shit, and using the keyboard doesn't help, but the plane is also kind of shit.
Fucking fraps crashed and won't start again then the game crashed but the inverted roll of the second one ended in a crash, despite the engines being off and the over 2k meters of altitude, I blame the plane.
Any free planes, DLC or otherwise, that I could use for dank tricks?

Damn, learn how to Windows.

...

i'll buy it when they release a strategic bomber module so i can play it with a mouse and keyboard

You motherfucker.

what

Buy a TrackIR now, or else.

or else what

you'll sperg at me over the internet for me not wanting to spend money on peripherals for a game i don't even play?

pic related, you

You guys are very mean.

...

we don't want sissies like you hanging around here.

Falcon 4.0 with BMS mod is pretty top tier though. Seriously, Microprose knew what the fuck they were doing and did an amazing job at it.

But arcade shit is boring.

Confirmed SOON
Also in development i believe

Nigger what the fuck are you doing? Your plane isn't magic, it's the engines that keep it in the air. You need to stop with the engines off autism it atleast stop blaming the aircraft if you ask it to do retarded shit.

I'm on mobile and the webm quality isn't the greatest but to me it looks like you're going way fucking fast and pulling really fucking hard. You don't jerk the stick around while flying and full pull/push is rarely needed. General rule of thumb is if your plane is shaking ease off. If your pilot is gasping EASE THE FUCK OFF.

When turning every plane has their own ideal turning speed where you get the maximum turning radius. Over or under that and you'll get reduced performance. Your engines are pushing your plane forward while the controls are telling it to turn. If you have too much engines you'll push out of the turn and if you have too little engines you'll end up losing speed/energy. You need a balance of thrust where you don't lose too much speed and are not fighting the thrust too much to turn. You need to have some sort of understanding of aerodynamics to play DCS.

But beyond all this the Frogfoot is a CAS plane equivalent to the A10-C. It's not made for high speed manoeuvring and loopdiloops. It's made for being loaded up with heavy things that go boom, dropping said heavy things and hoping it can return home.

You need to stop calling a plane shit when you don't know how to use it. It's making you look like a fool.

That does remind me, how does the hydraulics system on the Frogfoot work?
Assuming it's comparable to the A-10 you are going to lose pressure once the engines go, which also means your control surfaces will stop responding to inputs unless you switch them to manual reversal

Wow, you must be retarded.
As some general rules:
Going fast = going straight OR pulling lotsa Gs in a turn
Lotsa Gs = losing speed
Losing speed = stalling
Stalling = losing even more speed
No speed = no lift
No lift = death
If you want to stay in the air: fly fast.
If you want to fly fancy manoeuvres: fly fast and don't pull hard.
The only time when you ease off full throttle is when landing, or cruising.
Only once you have reached god-tier levels of skill and you know your aircraft just as well as your own body do you start to experiment with the throttle. See embed related for a crash caused by a veteran pilot, who still miscalculated the fucking stall.

Should I buy the Warthog HOTAS or just the stick itself? I have an x52 pro right now and it's quality is pissing me off thanks to MAD KATZ. Should I just get the stick first and the throttle down the line or just bite the bullet and get the Hotas itself.

0/10

I see no reason to not get both right away if your wallet can handle it. You'll be even more pissed off with the poor quality of the x52 if you try to play with half and half I reckon. I wish I had the money to get the warthog and pedals. I prioritised TrackIR and bought that and an x52 (which I still think was the right move) but now I'd really like to get the warthog but it's just too damn expensive especially since I'd need to get the pedals as well.

Fuck off

I had one a while ago and absolutly loved the hell out of it. However, I had to sell it because I was moving. I still miss it, but I got the older TM Cougar HOTAS.

...

Two seaters in DCS when

Double dubs demand double seaters!
When there are planes where the copilot is anything but a glorified weapons technician.

The engines were on, for some reason the light automatically turns off after a couple seconds.
I only turn them off when trying to land on rough terrains.
Alright, I'll try that.
I know it's not completely shit, I meant shit for maneuvering, which is what I'm trying to do.

What about loops though, wouldn't you want to lower the throttle while facing down as to not 9-11 the ground?

W-what's wrong with fraps?

It really is easier going fast with the plane not stalling. I can almost do an split-S now. Thanks, fags.

...

You really need to learn the very basics of how to fly and operate your aircraft before looking at the wikipedia page for aerobatic maneuvers and trying to copy it. Like you really fucking need to do that really fucking bad.

I know the basics, I just hadn't noticed it was stalling. I had read the warning light at the left was a general warning, so I didn't know it was something in specific.
