Anthony (((Weiner))) Begins 21-Month Sweetheart Prison Deal
Anthony Weiner was dropped off by his brother at a Massachusetts prison Monday to begin serving out his 21-month sentence as a sex offender, just over one year after his pervy text messages to an underage girl destroyed his marriage and career.
The former Democratic congressman and one-time frontrunner for New York City mayor will spend the next two years at Devens Prison in the northern Massachusetts town of Ayer – the same facility where Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev served out his first two years in federal custody.
Weiner had spent his final day of freedom in his Manhattan apartment with his father, Morton, who was spotted at a nearby Starbucks around 11am on Sunday.
And on Monday morning, his younger brother Jason drove the disgraced politician to prison while Weiner's estranged wife Huma Abedin stayed back in New York City to drop off the couple's five-year-old son Jordan at school.
DailyMail.com has confirmed that Weiner was in custody of the federal prison as of Monday morning, where he will spend the next 21 months as an inmate.
It's the end of a long descent for the former political star, whose compulsive sexting habit and repeated scandals wrecked his congressional career, his promising campaign for New York City mayor and his marriage to Hillary Clinton's closest aide.
Weiner's conduct ultimately caught the attention of federal authorities after DailyMail.com first revealed last September Weiner's secret sexting relationship with a 15-year-old girl.
The high school sophomore told DailyMail.com that Weiner asked her to undress for him and engage in sex acts over video chats and sent her explicit messages and photos over several months in 2016 – despite knowing she was underage.
FMC Devens, which was a former military facility for nearby Fort Devens, houses inmates of all security levels, but specializes in prisoners with medical conditions and sex offenders, and is considered a relatively pleasant assignment as far as federal prisons go.
It offers a number of recreational activities, including Weiner's favorite sport – hockey – as well as a hobby craft shop, a music practice room and cooking classes.
During Weiner's free time, he'll be able to participate in the prison's intramural sports teams, including basketball, soccer and floor hockey. Devens also has a hobby craft shop and offers art, chess and Bridge classes.
