Incredibly, at one point they all published a bunch of articles in which they just matter-of-factly claimed that gaming culture had ceased to exist overnight somehow and that gamers didn't actually exist. Still not sure what they meant to accomplish by this.
Then suddenly the entire thing began to snowball. People on cuckchan got so pissed off that they actually did up a list of advertisers to these sites and started called them and threatened boycotts unless they withdrew their support. Gawker alone lost something like six-figures from this.
Then celebrities got involved in a major way. Then the feminists started their "muh soggy knees" thing because Zoe is a cheap whore. Then the PUA and MRA movements decided to get involved to stick it to the feminazis. Then /cow/ got involved for laughs. Then /baph/ doxed a guy called John Flynn for a laugh. Suddenly it was everywhere.
