The important bit here is the time table: they had evidence instantly, including ballistics and fingerprints, things that are quite time intensive to produce. The police had basically zero evidence before the FBI gave them everything. Also notes the FBI withheld the bullets. Wouldn't want anyone second guessing their analyses.
