I got into Berserk a few months ago. I read all of the manga up until Griffith establishes his empire and Rickert and co. escape the city. At the time, I read everything in one go so I didn't really have the chance to digest it like many people here did and who watched the series (slowly) evolve.

In retrospect -and like many other fans- I also don't like the drastic change of tone. I'm hoping to see Miura pull a Kojima and take people on a ruse cruise or something. But frankly, I don't think I'm ever going to touch the manga again until I see more of what made Berserk so memorable for me, even if it ruins the surprise. I just don't want to dedicate myself to a series that is turning into the typical >muh power level and sterilized storytelling.

With the blog post out of the way, video related is a good explanation why Berserk is so fucking good and Miura is extremely talented. Also requesting the pic of prototype smug Guts. I think that's his frown edited with his mouth upside down.

You should still read it. Some parts are absolutely gut-wrenching, and all the misery and the horror was well worth it while it lasted. There's more to it than just that, though; the world building is still fantastic despite all the high fantasy shit. Hell, even the events that lead up to that had a good build-up which resulted in a very climatic moment.

First one is entertaining and has a phenomenal soundtrack. The fights aren't well done and it cuts out a significant amount of content, but it's worth the watch just for the story alone. The movies are much better in my opinion, but there are some moments where you notice the CGI, but it's tolerable for the most part. Don't ever consider watching the new series. I actually had to look away for some parts because the CGI in it made me physically cringe. They also cut out the Lost Children chapter, which is one of my favorites.

I've been re-reading some of the later chapters, and it's not as terrible as I thought. Of course the peak was likely the Golden Age/Conviction Arcs, but It only just started getting really bad after the battle with the Sea God. It's not focused so much on Guts' character development as it used to be, but how he develops the characters around him. It's a good thing, because there's not much more shit that Guts can go through that will significantly change him.

There are quite a few possible directions for Miura to go from here. He could have made Guts stay edgy and make his revenge pointless in the end with some "die as a hero or live long enough to be the villain" bullshit. Or he can have Guts become a more reasonable guy and then either still kill Griffith/destroy the Falconian army because it's the right thing to do or find some other gay way to make him totally not evil anymore guise. I'm leaning towards the latter because some of the apostles in the Falconian army seems to be pretty chill, although the majority are still assholes. However we still do not know the true purpose of Griffith collecting human survivors in his city. If it is one of those "end all wars by conquering everyone" shit then it's pretty ok, I guess.

Well it hasn't been explicitly confirmed but, we know he's Gaiseric the emperor of notRome that was destroyed when "holy man prayed for angels to punish Gaiseric for his sins" ie Void was a salty asshole and summoned godhand.
Also some combination of brand of sacrifice and wearing berserker armour for too long made him not able to die, he's probably a skellington at best at this point or the armour is just empty.

Nothing more is really necessary, it would probably ruin the character.

I'm hoping they're trading character variety for character quality and map variety.

Hyrule Warriors had a shitton of playable characters but there was 13 playable maps that were all big and boring. one was even a clone of an earlier map. I have no idea about Legend's two new map but it kinda sucked since most other modes obviously favored just a handful of them.

So far what I'm most disappointed in is how Guts' Sword feels. The gameplay he just waves it and enemies flinch, it makes me feel like he's waving a giant LARPing sword the way they react.

As someone who's never really ground through musou games enough to get tired of it- the most I did was go up to Drakengard Ending D when I was a wee little tween or pretween shit- it still looks more than passable and plenty enjoyable, but I'm not holding out for a masterpiece, just a fun enough romp.

Sad that Ganishka isn't playable, but considering his thunderstorm form flattens entire battlefields, which'd be excessive even for a special move, maybe it's for the best that he be unplayable or- I'm rather ashamed to say it- reserved for a fat DLC starting from his pre-Apostle conquests on through his ascendance, consolidation of his empire and ending on the invasion of Midland. Means he might get more love, if he gets any at all.

One would hope. If anything, I'm worried that there won't be enough or well-tuned enough middle-grade enemies & bosses to compensate for the chaff becoming an afterthought after a certain point. Getting things right so that the pace and challenge becomes steadily more grueling without being a boring slope with no hills or valleys is the key.

Its most likely he ran out of ideas of how to continue. Storywise they were close to elf island and casca being cured which means that he would have to take the story in another direction and actually advance the overarching plot. My bet is he couldn't think of how to do that so he spent 10 years on the boat, dragging it out as long as possible to give himself the time to think of ideas to continue the story (which obviously wasn't enough time)

Personally I think Miura is donezo. He'll continue to release a couple chapters uere and there throughout the years but the creativity he had when he was younger has disappeared, sucked out by loli idols

I don't know about the ending, but the plot was building up towards Guts possibly hurting even his allies in Berserker mode. It's the only logical step really, a tragic conclusion to say, Isidro for example, would add much needed darkness and depth to a story that is become bloated with characters that are too likeable and lighthearted.

Through the Skull Knight it's a possibility that the world of Berserk is cyclical. That some guy goes off and challenges the apostles, gets the berserker armor, killed one of the god hand, and then becomes the next Skull knight as he severs the connection to the life tree and becomes trapped in the ether.

This would make everything Guts has done pointless, since you can't destroy the metaphysical concept of evil

Berserk is a very well-crafted manga and an even better anime. There is no doubt in my mind that a Berserk musou will be successful and enjoyable.
