Here's where the stories diverge depending on who's telling them and where they're being told. There's tons of variations. In one story, the woodcutter drops his axe into the waterfall pond, a beautiful lady comes up from the water and returns it to him, but tells him to never tell anyone what happened. He's shitty at keeping secrets so he gets drunk one night, tells someone about it, then drops dead instantly.

In another tale, an eel comes up to the woodcutter and asks him for help since the eel's going to fuckin' rassle with the jorogumo. The woodcutter answers in the affirmative and promises to help, but doesn't go to the fight because he's scared. The eel loses, and the woodcutter immediately goes insane.

In another tale, the woodcutter reaches into the pond for the axe but a whole bunch of webs come shooting out. He cuts himself free with the axe, ties the web around a tree stump, and the stump gets dragged into the pond. He hears the Jorogumo go "clever, clever" and never gets bothered by her again.

The unifying aspect is that these spirits stand outside of human notions of good or bad, because they just are. They exist as part of the world, and are aspects of it. The lessons are always to respect the gods, and maybe they'll show you favor. Maybe they won't. Maybe you'll get fucked over anyways. But respecting the spirits, just as you respect nature, tends to be better than disrespecting it. This aspect of Shintoism is, I think, one of the main reasons the Japs respect nature and take care of their country so much.

I wanted to share what I have been seeing traveling from our home to our church for the past six months. After reading about the different reports coming in I thought this would be the right timing, I have been asking the Lord what this means. I have been seeing (but wasn't revealed the meaning) except it was China taking over different pockets of the USA.

My family and I live about 40 miles to our church so we have to drive every Sunday to get there. For the past 6 months or so whenever we get to a certain area I begin to see these soldiers in black pants with red jackets, black boots with some kind of emblem on their lapel.
