well, sometimes people get tired of having to patch an infrastructure that's just going to collapse regardless of what they do. Instead of begging like dogs at the door of your "representative", why not try learning some skills while you can that will you help make you a more independent person for whom it won't matter whether the government takes control of the internet or not? Seems smarter than investing yourself in a system that has shown over and over again that it doesn't give a shit about you and is just going to go ahead with whatever it intends to do one way or another.
