For decades we've known about and been warned that the planet is overpopulated. The overpopulation problem is compounded by migration. The maximum sustainable population of Earth, based upon it's arable land was ~400 million, but because so much arable land has been denuded since the 20th Century, that number has dropped by almost half. With modern technology, the maximum number of people the planet can support in perpetuity is approximately 1 billion. Obviously we are well beyond these limits.

Some believe that it's immoral to place limits on human demographics. According to such people, when Earth's population reaches 18 billion, it should only grow to 30 billion, and when that point is reached, our numbers should only grow to 100 billion or higher. Common sense obviates that at some point a limit has to be imposed. Realistically, that limit should be solely based upon science, not religion, reason.

Eventually humanity will face these issues, but probably only after we have destroyed our environment, and waged horrible wars with one another. At that point, Earth's sustainable carrying capacity will probably be much less than it currently is, even with high technology. An environment decimated, and people and cultures destroyed, this for the obstinate ambitions of men deaf to reason. The coming centuries will be hellish. Hopefully in about 600 years we will start to face the problems we are currently generating. After that, we can truly start to explore beyond the confines of our own little solar system.

Biodiversity really has plunged in the last decades.
When I was a kid about 30 years ago there were meadows full of flowers, clouds of butterflies and beetles and a multitude of birds. I would go out with a guidebook and easily find most of the common species in it. Nowadays almost all of them are gone or at least extremely rare. Not just here, everywhere I went people tell the same. And the worst is that for kids who grow up now this is simply normal.

I guess the main reason is habitat destruction and overfertilization. Nitrogen is deposited even in remote regions causing many wildflowers to disappear. Plus farmers use way more fertilizer than before. Turns the meadows into green deserts. There are barely any flowers anymore. Thus no insects and no birds and mammals either.

And this is in Germany where we have insane environmental standards and a lot of money is spent to protect and even restore ecosystems. In most of the world niggers and chinks continue to raze everything to the ground while they multiply like crazy. Ultimately there's only one problem in this world. 8 billion people.

Southern eurofag here, I've witnessed myself that there's been almost no flies this summer buzzing around the house. All past summers there used to be one or two infesting the kitchen every single day, this year all I've seen are maybe 4 since june? Spooky shit.

Florida user here. For the last decade or so I've noticed(and all of my friends & family) the massive decline of "lovebugs". When I was a kid they used to be in the hundreds per square yard on the surface of plaster structures(think the walls of amusement parks & some of the houses here that plaster their walls to better keep their home itself dry.).

Last year I barely saw any lovebugs. Lovebugs are important btw since they eat the rotting vegetation(in their larval form) & help pollinate the local flora. Of course, they also serve as plenty of food for birds, lizards(anoles) & fish(for when the lovebugs themselves die of exhaustion & either fall into the water or get washed into it.). Even other bugs feast on them, as far as I'm aware.

A point to add, I've seen less bees(as I'm sure most people have) & less wasps. It used to be back when I was a kid, that you'd have at least 6-7 wasp nests around your house underneath the overhangs of your roof and entryway. Wasps would be incredibly common to see poking around the grass or on the banks of canals and rivers, but not any longer. I haven't even seen a mud dauber in ages(a type of wasp that digs around in the mud of river banks for food) or mole cricket. I can assume the former hasn't been seen in ages because we've seen a ton of rain these past few years to such an extent that my canal & plenty others have lost their banks & the water would creep into your lawn.

In conclusion: Florida, the insect capital of America, is finding itself devoid of a large number of its insects. There's less general wildlife too, like gopher tortoises and birds that aren't ibis.

I do know that Floridian waters(fresh water) are riddled with pesticides & fertilizers. What's the most retarded is the use of fertilizers here, we have some of the rich and fertile soil in the whole continent and these retards pump more into the ground(which washes off into the water because only so much can be held by the soil, especially in a place as wet as Florida).

The fertilizer stuff reminds me of when I was a kid though, me and my sister used to net up hundreds of snails in a single scoop in our grandparent's canals. We also had tons of sea grass and minnows. Those numbers have dropped significantly on both fronts. There may only be about 10 snails per square foot anymore(compared to a hundred or more back then) & the schools of minnows have shot down in both size and frequency because the sea grass they used to hide in is gone. I've noticed that the gar in the area have boomed in population too(they seem to feed off of the minnows.). There's virtually no fresh water muscles anymore either.

FL user checking in, I've noticed a decline in mud daubers and lovebugs too, but the decline in certain species could also have to do with the influx of rapefugee species such as the basilik aka the jesus lizard and now they're saying the argentine tegus are being spotted in various parts of the everglades which are going to wreck the local ecosystem even further. As the sun gets hotter and winters become more mild you're going to see an increase of rapefugee species normally found closer to the equator. The lack of indigenous species in the area is alarming, I wonder how the indigenous species are doing out in the glades? Good news though, I actually saw a black racer for the first time in ages and still see soft shell turtles and red ear sliders.

The only alien species I've seen in my area(Southwest Florida) have been a slight rise in iguanas near this one beach and barrier island that only grow to about a foot long. I do agree that the weather is probably having a huge effect, but I think the fertilizers & pesticides in my area are a huge problem too.

Also on the everglades, there's a species of disgusting armored catfish from Africa that was quite a problem there last I heard. I've seen no shortage of the soft-shelled turtles though, even planned to try and catch some and cook them up for my Opa to try. No hard shelled turtles live in the canals near me though, they're all soft-shelled here.

Oh, also, a weird thing I found was purple periwnkles I had planted had all died out to a weird fungal infection. My only white periwinkle was unaffected though. In other flora in my area, my Opa's property had a grapefruit tree, a lime tree, a cumquat tree & an orange tree – all but the cumquat tree died of an infection(fungal for the oranges and viral for the other two.)

OP and fellow Floridanon here, can confirm the massive decrease in ladybug populations up in the north of the state. They used to absolutely coat the outside of cars, I remember my parents specifically bought a black car because of this. And this was only 15 years or so ago when I was a lad. It's absolutely scary how quickly the world is literally dying before our eyes. I've also noticed a virtual eradication of the frog population. It used to be in summer at night time, they would be all over our front porch, and you'd always know a storm was about to brew because the frogs would start croaking. Now, no longer. I haven't seen more than a few frogs in two years.

We had a dip here in the frog populations too, but it's since recovered. I've never really seen ladybugs down here, not even 15 years ago. I guess they don't do well in south Florida. We don't have much in the way of aphids either.

I do know that frogs tend to die in pool enclosures from first hand experience in finding them. They can't find water or food and mummify inside the pool enclosure.

I live in the Midwest region. The bees in my area have all but vanished in a decade, only wasps and hornets remain. I haven't seen lady bugs at all and very few frogs and worms compared to years past. The amount of birds has rapidly decreased as well. This could be a bias from not being able to hang out in the woods as much as I used to but nonetheless those are my anecdotal observations. Global warming is a red herring in order to steer people away from tackling actual pollution problems that would harm (((corporations))) and instead place the burden on the average person while doing fuckall to change anything.

I have a small garden and I've never used any sort of pesticides. I used to have a big caterpillar problem, but I've been enticing predatory bugs to move in. Mostly spiders and wasps. Now I don't have a pest problem. I've heard of some farmers (small scale, backyard operations really) who build their own wasp enclosures to kill off any plant-eating bugs.

It's worked out pretty great for me. I've heard of farmers using ladybugs to kill aphids, but that's about it.

I remember as a child going to the local park and seeing swarms of ladybugs all over the playground equipment. One of my favorite things to do as a kid in the summer was collect a few of them and make terrariums for them to live in. Now I barely see any, and definitely no swarms.
