Is there really a problem with the current Resident Evil games? I have never played anything before RE4, so I can't say of the older games were better or not.

Never plaed 6. 4 is fucking great. And 5 was a blast to play. Out of the older ones 3 is my favorite next to 0. 1 and 2 arent as memorable.

They changed the genre gradually throughout the series from survival horror to horror-themed cuhrazy action. If you were to play release order, you could see how each sequel upped the combat, while the horror was reduced bit by bit.

The general complaint that I hear is that they have shifted from a survival horror to a more action oriented game.

...

what is strange is, it isn't impossible to make horror game with over the shoulder gameplay
dead space was a proof of that

Kill yourself

That was the end of his post you fucklog

I knew I would catch shit for posting that

Sure if you consider excessive gore, "kill every monster you see" action gunplay, and jump scares to be horror

Is horror somehow directly correlated with resources? Do you define it with how much health and ammo you have?

Being unable to properly defend yourself, scarcity of resources, and risk of losing progress create an immense amount of tension, thus making you more engaged and therefore more emotionally invested.

I own the first two Dead Space games and I really do love them, there's an excellent amount of spooky atmosphere no pun intended, but I really can't consider it a horror game.

They kinda fucked up with their planning on the series after RE2. it was here crimson-head.com/

Most of the games were planned to have new characters every game, RE5-6 went into crazy action movie territory and the decisions stream-lining everything to full action third person shooter pissed people off.

RE7 is like a soft reboot, but god, the youtuber pewdiepie and VR bait.

RE series started as an immensely dumbed down Alone in The Dark clone with guns and zombies instead of actual puzzles and interesting story. It has been a trashy action focused game since the beginning. At least RE 4-6 actually have good controls.

Love 1-5. Haven't tried 6 yet.

No, it changed from survival themed action horror to action """"horror"""".

m8 come on even the first one wasn't great apart from the narrative.

i've only played 0, 4, and 5. out of them 0 is the best.

never had a reason to play the older ones, or 6. doubt ill ever play them

Not a problem perse, they are solid games, its mostly the swerve really, most RE games prior to 4 seem to have been building up to an end game of sorts, then RE4 comes along declares Umbrella is finished now enjoy Leon's adventures in not Spain killing mexicans and escorting some annoying cunt you don't care about.

it's still closer than any RE past 4 all things considered

have you tried playing it on hardest?

Doesn't the Raccoon city incident more or less just convince the Government to shut down Umbrella through sanctions and shit.

Was there really anything else to do when it come to dealing with them as a corporation? I mean, and RE4 does set up the Wesker plot nonsense.

say, hardcore on ds2

Even if the combat is broken, AITD 2 has god tier puzzles and more than one approach to avoid combat. For example, throwing a guy off from a cliff using a flying bucket, or throwing grenade into a chimney. The books are still fun to read and essential to puzzle solving too. It's actually a survival horror instead of an action horror unlike resident evil. I haven't finished AITD 3, but looks like the combat is more polished than AITD 2.

The graphics were revolutionary. The combat is infinitely better than RE's "stand in one point than shoot." The melee combat works perfectly, it has directional swinging and blocking. Compare that to RE's completely useless knife. There are so many unique and unexpected environmental hazards in the mansion, and it adds horror and tension. RE is very boring compared to the classic AITD trilogy.

Not to my knowledge, especially since Code Veronica came after 3, the whole seemed to be setting up a big fight with all the characters then RE4 just tossed it all.

and tbh it isnt that hard to manage with resources in the old RE games

they seem to be pretty generous sans original RE and perhaps outbreak series on harder difficulty levels

In old RE games, the inventory is slot based instead of weight based. One single key takes as much space as 225 pistol rounds and a shotgun. It's stupid.

At the very least play REmake. In my opinion, it was much better than 0.

...

Resident Evil 6
The Good:
- dedicated melee attack button
- Jake's hand to hand combat mechanics
- directional lunging and diving
- reworked inventory
- Mercenaries
- Play as zombie/PvP
The Bad:
- Micromanagement/"RPG elements"
- The story
- Quick time events up the wazoo
- Chest high walls/whack a mole style shooting
- "Puzzles" are more like obstacle courses
- action segments that don't belong in this game series, such as a Shadow Moses style car driving escape and a fighter pilot segment
- "Bosses" that are either scripted "run for your life" segments or heavily reliant on quick time events

In short, the basic mechanics aren't a problem, but everything else is garbage. The writing, the characters motivations and interactions, the level design, the scripted action sequence bullshit, the QTEs, the "build your playstyle" passive buffs and perks that force a grind, and pretty much everything else that isn't Mercenaries mode. Get RE6 for cheap and amuse yourself with Mercenaries mode co-op. Outside of that, I would not recommend it.

If only RE Operation Raccoon City had the gameplay of RE6 with some MonHunt elements, BOW boss fights, zombie horde survival mode, and actual multiplayer content that isn't fucking DLC, I'd play the fuck out of it.

Resident evil 6 is a great game, the shooting, the mechanics, the controls, everything is polished to a mirror sheen.

The plot is bonkers and everything about it makes it seem like an american action flick, written by japs.

I love resident evil 6, it has so much heart it should be illegal.

RE4: Gr8at
RE5: Pretty good but not as good as RE4
RE6: WHAT WERE THEY THINKING

Never played ORC, what's it play like? Isn't it a multiplayer only game?

Best Resident Evil coming through

The SOCOM B-team devs were trying to find a new gig after Sony told them to fuck off, they went to work with Capcom, the game is, pretty a lot of good ideas, cinematics, some neat story-sections, but gameplay is shit, it was just a SOCOM game with Resident Evil modded to it, gunplay, the Triple Threat shit of having Monsters and Human enemies didn't mesh well, the AI is retarded, they didn't have any fun designs in the game(DLC costume is just a palette swap for the original characters) and they fucked rush development to coincide with their Year of Resident Evil (2012 they had RE: Revelaitons, ORC and RE6)

Here's the ending "boss" fight (Multiplayer map with versus Hero mode)

Resident Evil 1 remake and Zero are actually the better ones to play if your looking to play the originals again.

The PS1 games have aged very badly.

As someone who has played them all extensively, I can tell you that the series did gradually get worse after 4's release. While 4 was fantastic to play and still manages to be one of the best third person shooters ever released, the sequels never actually managed to improve on it in any meaningful way, and in the case of 6, took several steps backwards in terms of design to the point where it's just genuinely a bad game.

4 Is great
5 has some of that greatness but stumbles a bit by giving you a braindead AI partner, dumbing down the horror even more, and butchering the inventory system
6 Took all of the other games' problems and amplified them, plus, it introduced a whole host of other issues on it's own.

So yeah, 6 is bad and not just because of the whole 'not muh survival horror' reason.

I don't have a single RE reaction image in my folder, why is that?

4 started going downhill after you left the village though. Really downhill. Also, who the fuck thought that weapon upgrade and not being able to buy ammo are a good idea.

Elitists evolve into social justice warriors. That need to feel special among peers, even anonymously, can only lead to inane bitching.

Just like with any other game, every Resident Evil game has its pros and cons. This isn't philosophy we're discussing, gaming theory doesn't exist, this is a product to be run.

All you need to do, is to bring it for a test run and see if it aligns to your personal taste. Cretins brought up by Gamefaqs have only met citations of personal taste, during console war arguments: they believe it means "it's just your opinion brah". On the contrary, personal taste is yourself and you should carry it as banner of everything you demand: cultivate yourself along your inclinations.

Not according to plebbit's top 10.

I still find it plenty enjoyable up until you hit the island, that's when shit just really drags and I start wishing it was over.

Really not anything you should ever have the need to do, RE4 hands out ammo like fucking candy. Just grab the shotgun that holds like one hundred rounds and cost through the rest of the game never needing to use anything else if you really worry that much about your bullets.

I want some of what you're smoking bro. Grade A autism like that doesn't grow much around where I live.

Yeah, that was when the game truly reached bottom of the barrel.

Yeah, when your inventory is full. There's not even a place to store your stuff. I'd rather have scarce but purchasable ammo than this bullshit.

I never really had problem with the RE4 inventory so long as I wasn't doing a fish only run. You keep a pistol, a shotgun, and another weapon of your choice with you and you're plenty capable of beating the game. That leaves you with ample space for ammo and health items.

Apples to oranges I guess, I like RE4's inventory system a lot.

I like the inventory system too, but the lack of extra item storage is irritating. It makes weapons like RPG and SMG useless due to their lack of space and ammo efficiency.

(Checked)
I miss the inventory puzzle games, made more sense than the Classic RE inventory (a key takes the same inventory slot as a handgun)

The ammo thing was insane though, especially the Minethrower, on the hardest difficulty ammo still drops a ton.

You forgetting your first time meeting these babies? The island had some pretty good spooks, at least until you've learned the spawns.

That's about the only good part of the island, when you encounter those fucks for the first time. But then you learn their gimmick and they just get tossed around like a regular enemy and kind of lose their charm.

The regenerators felt like the most Resident Evil thing in that game, to be honest. I kind of wanted a full game that was harder where they were the primary enemy you had to deal with.

Umbrella took a bit hit from Racoon City, but through plot magic, they were largely allowed to get away. It wasn't until Wesker releases the files that were on the Red Queen that Umbrella gets its shit pushed in some 4 years later.

RE6 would have been much better off without the second half of the game. That would also mean removing Sherry, which would be ok unless Capcom ever would have used her to replace Leon. Trying to save civilians as Leon to only watch things go tits up led to some very sweet moments.

The change to China was around the point that the story shits itself and that even includes Leon playing chew toy to a giant fish under the city.

RE4 largely expects you to cycle through different weapons and sell off ammo / grenades you don't need for upgrade money. Otherwise the entire game would be balanced around one weapon for the entire playthrough given you'd just upgrade one shotgun and buy an entire case full of shells and win. Regenerators, different plagas and level design offset this, but they needed it to happen more often.

Right now, I'm excited for RE7 and REmake 2, but my main issue with older series games is that they've done just about everything they can to make them different. Outbreak felt like the absolute peak of ideas from classic RE, and I'd like to see something that captures the same spark of 90's action from RE2 and 3, in the REmake aesthetic.

I'd also like them to continue working on making the games more accessible on PC and such, given the series feels almost impenetrable lore wise since there's so many games now. REmaster helped a lot on PC, but we still don't have Code Veronica, 2, or 3 unless you grab a PS3 or the Japanese re-released PC ports (if you can get them to run at all), or Outbreak on PS2. Realistically only 2 and 3 are really important out of these story-wise, but I'd still want the rest.

what about the part where helicopter is chasing you on the docks and you barely have time to escape

or the one where you're chased by haos, and the stupid camera
(I think the camera problem was with the helicopter chase too)

generally

I hear seven is getting back to the series roots though, so it could revive the series.

So have you ever seen RE before 4?

They might as well have just made it a seperate franchise, like they did with DMC, Its completely different

oh user they say this each time

5 was butchered for coop play. Could have been as good as 4.

6 is fucking trash, they tried to "evolve" the gameplay again but failed mierable making a game that is casual as fuck. It also has a story too retarded, instead of the usual RE cheese.

RE 3 = 4 >Remake > 5 > CV

Ive played all the Resi games and I wouldn't say the newer titles are a problem, per se, just that theyve kinda stolen the plot. What was kind of a tense survival horror series has gone drastically into an action-orientated one.

That said, RE6 engine and combat/gunplay system would be really cool for anything but zombies. The ability to run, slide, barge, tumble all while aiming and shooting feels awesome, but when youre only ever really fighting slow moving, melee enemies its kinda redundant. Make a Dino Crisis game with it and Ill be pretty happy.

I mean I guess the camera was meant to be throwback to the old titles, but they couldn't have implemented it worse

when the camera suddenly changes without warning and the controls _aren't_ tanky, ie you risk pushing into wrong direction unless you see it coming AND it's a fucking scene where you dont have time to dilly dally around

I still liked the game for it's better moments though

She started fucking shit up and went and picked up all the hidden treasure. It was like playing with a person who knew the game in and out i.e. a better AI

I agree. It became a chore after that, if only they could have fit the regenerator into the village or just go with the beta. I'm still pissed about that.

Also should I play Revelations 2 and if yes is there any torrent for all the parts anywhere? The first one was ok

I like my survival horror games to not involve shooting 50 people running at me. That's just an action game.

10/10 bait

Here's your reply.

Stopped reading.

You can't fully upgrade the Striker in one playthrough.

I just posted that after seeing things like pic related as article titles

Do people actually live under a rock or we're just filled with underages at this point?

Just fuck my shit up.

They're just screwing with us now
Though I'm not certain I want to see an older Rebecca

that's a nice looking girl

They used to be survival horror games. Since 4 they've been action games with zombies

While I hold 4 in high regard, it was the climax, and not only was it the climax but the series fell off a fucking cliff after said climax and it was a very steep cliff.

I cant pick a favorite The first game, the second game and the fourth are among some of my all time favs.

Also, REmake 2 WHEN ??????

I don't know, the last RE game I played was 5, and that came out 7 years ago.
Resident Evil 1 is good even after you beat it several times. 4 was great when it came out; its re-release doesn't look so good graphics-wise. 5 is fun to play with a friend if they're not a retard. Code Veronic X is a slog, I got halfway through the game and just stopped playing.

fite me

That I would love, and seeing the title "Vendetta" it's gonna be another Wesker/Not-Wesker/Ex-Umbrella employee is gonna be the bad guy.

...

Of course she is, all RE girls are qts.

dey good but dey is definitely transition mo n mo to action games n not survival horror no mo. re 4 was definitely a foray into dat but still retained survival horror shiz in it core design u kno muh nycka?

5 shit felt like horde mode to yo boi da whole dayum time n 6 was almos lyk a moden beat em up, even on da highest difficulties fam (Dey actually patched a harder one in) a nigga jus run in tackle zombies n knife em da fuck up movin from set piece to set piece n while it was fun n shieet monica wasn't rly no tension to be found up in that bitch tho

pic related was kinda a bitch puttin up w/ deez hoes tho

I mean, it expects you to be ready for the sudden swap to Chris and you can mess up the set up for that quite a bit by giving Claire too much shit, but besides that it was pretty easy.

The respawning enemies fuck with my autism.
I love RE1, 2, 3, zero, and remake though those are fucking classics.

I wouldn't say 5 and 6 are bad games. They don't excel at the 'Resident Evil' part (especially 6 in the COD-esque Chris chapter), but they're solid action games. Both of these have an excellent aspect that not many games have, and that is local split-screen co-op, which is a fucking blast with a bro.

5 starts strong, gets a bit boring in the Indiana Jones-like maze parts, and ends with awesome boulder punching action. 6 on the other hand starts great with Leon (especially the city escape part with all the survivors), then it gets COD enabled with Chris (it gets weird here), and after that it switches to some RE3 like action with Sherry/Jake and the Ustanak being a Nemesis equivalent. Overall it's a pretty wild ride, and Capcom didn't skimp on the production values.

I'm currently going through Revelations 2 with a bro, and it's quite fun. I dislike how useless the 2nd player is (especially as Natalia without a brick) but it's still fun to play and cooperate.

Granted, though: RE3 was one of the first games I played when I got a PS1, and I absolutely love the classics and their tanky-controlled goodness.
RE7's demo appears to be a HUGE P.T. ripoff, but we'll see if Capcom can pull through. I'd prefer a Revelations 3 with RE5/6 style balanced characters myself.

Fucking excellent action-horror game with cheesy humor and great combat.
A heavily-flawed co-op take on 4. Not an outright bad game but it's by far the weakest in the series.
Not even remotely scary. Big, dumb, over-the-top, loud, and stupid, but surprisingly fun aside from the occasional QTE and walky-talky shit.

7 looks like a radical departure from everything the series has done up to this point. Looks more like Condemned or Outlast mixed with a little bit of Silent Hill. It might be fun but I have heavily-tempered expectations.

Chris story in RE6 with a friend is the best fun I had in a while.

What about pic related?

It was fun for a 3ds game. A shame about what they did to Jill's face, they should have kept her face from 5.

I know. I actually think it combined the best of pre-4 and post-4 styles. The horror, mystery, atmosphere and ammo constraints of the first games and the gameplay and over-the-shouler camera of post 4 that made fighting zombies a more nerve-wracking experience. Makes me wish they toned down the amount of monsters and bosses however.

You are aware that as you go further into the game, you can upgrade your inventory space through the merchant, right?

I played it again recently after wanting to play something I actually know on an emulator. Ended up clocking it, but yeah, I managed to get the Striker fully upgraded, since as far as the emulator knew it was my first playthrough. Didn't happen until about 2/3 or 3/4 of the way through, but it's doable.
