The problem with the sting theory is that you would never sell LOADED guns to a potential buyer. You might sell the buyer ammo to go with the guns but you wouldn't go through the trouble of loading up individual 100-round magazines and sell it that way.

Granted the buyer(s) might bring their own loaded weaponry to the deal and then we could speculate that that was the source of the gunfire. Of course, it could have been the buyer who determined the location of the deal. But, if it was a sting, would the sellers really let the buyer choose the location? The idea of a sting is to have people in place beforehand. If I were the buyer, I'd wait until the last minute to choose a location to preempt that very thing from happening. it's a python script i wrote that multiprocesses by running ffmpeg twice, one thread on the first half second on the second and then merges the two outputs at the end. been using it for a week now and it works. you need vaapi installed because it uses that for decode and scaling.

I need to write it so you can disable vaapi for better compatibility. and there's other shit in there too (h264_vaapi encoding) because it's a work in progress and eventually i want multiple codecs in there.

It's atleast a 2x speed boost. each process is set to run with 2 threads so at a min you'll get 2 cores going and might get 4 depending on output resolution. I need to write it to split n times for n cores, but I only have 2 real cores so I just stopped there out of laziness.

i've tested h264_vaapi pretty hard and it's totally shit. it's not well suited for low bitrates. vp9 is superior in every way even with it's slow speed. the h264 software encoder is also preferable, the quality is far better and you can tweak it more, there aren't a lot of settings for vaapi hardware encoders.

i'm sure this varies a lot by the cpu/gpu though.

A couple of things. I have this video (#1) which claims proof of supressed fire, and while it is very quiet it is still audible and in video #2 it is even more so. The easiest way I found to guage the timing of the shots off these two videos is to base it off the applause of the audience, as there is a certain point where the same applause is audible in both.

So, while I don't think it does indicate suppressed rounds, it does seem to indicate that the shooter is closer to the position of the second film, which is notable because the second film position seems to be further from Mandalay Bay, based on the volume of the music and applause relative to the first film, and the fact that the second film is off on the distant side of the festival away from Mandalay Bay.

I'll qualify this though saying that I'm not /k/ommando. Another big clue that the shooting came from helicopters is the lack of a real Crime Scene Investigation, when something like a plane crashes they locate every little bit of it and reconstruct it. What did they do with the investigation into the biggest shooting event in US history? They left it open, cordoned off some streets (to keep people from taking pictures of the fact they weren't investigating – again setting up a perimeter for their coverup), where is the TRAJECTORY ROD analysis on all the bullet holes through the event furniture? No where to be found. The helicopters were circling at the same altitude as the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay, the injuries on people that would wind up in the hospital would tell the tale of a shot fired down from roughly that angle. People move around so the fact that the shots hit from different locations wouldn't be detectable. That isn't the case for immobile event furniture - if they would really have investigated it would be obvious that the shots rained down from different locations as the helicopters circled around.
