If we look at the short history of mobile gaming though, it shows that those players have no company interest, just the game/brand. Eg Angry Birds etc, while every other Rovio game is forgotten.

But on the other hand with Pokemon Go's popularity it seems to have gotten people interested in Pokemon games and even buying 3DS systems to play them. One could look at the success of this game and see how Mario mobile title could have lots of people playing it. But PG was F2P while SMR will have to be brought outright after a user plays the demo.

Mario Runners don't, in any way shape or form stimulate a thematically consistent desire for Mario fans.
