The only time I got upset with a few of the children who were acting cocky (because they sure as fuck hated having that witch of a teacher, which I could understand) I sure as hell wouldn't take any shit from them either and, suddenly, the doctrine then was that you're "not allowed to use emotions" when speaking >to< the child. So what they're told to do is top-down communication. No real connection allowed, actually. Which only leaves hopeless gestures and yelling as viable options to get on with the program.
