No Man's Sky is a weight on the games industry as a whole

The thing about No Man's Sky is that it's ruined the space travel genre forever, or at least for the foreseeable future. It was a first of it's kind in the kind of genre/scifi subgenre it was defining, and then managed to massively fail to deliver in just about every category people were expecting it to succeed in or at least manage to present in.

We wont be able to have a respectable, fundable space exploration/do what you want universe sandbox game because people will see it as just a "No Man's Sky 2" and be wary of ever funding such a game on principle of NMS's failure.

Thanks a fucking lot, NMS, you ruined a genre everyone wants to play. Not only are you a massive disappointment, but you're ruining the future of games that want to be better than you simply by existing.

Sean Murray, please end yourself.

wew

shoot him a fucking email instead of blogposting on Holla Forums

nice blogpost tbh fam

Your points can be applied to any genre in gaming right now.

most if not all of your points are wrong

nope

not even close

this is way off tbhf

space 4x is "semi-niche" as fuck

+1

Well, apparently Space Engineers did it better in a few regards, I just wish building stuff wasn't so slow and cumbersome.

Actually NMS has been a huge boon for Elite Dangerous, ED sales and player activity boomed after people found out what a failure NMS was but were still pumped for space.

NMS may well have saved ED in fact.

Nah. Superman 64 didn't kill superhero games, and NMS won't kill space games. You'll be fine.

dont worry user, he got your back

What about Star Citizen?
Is that even out yet?
I'd also be interested in most any game vaguely like Escape Velocity: Nova tbh
>tfw happy merchant roaming the galaxy, upgrading your ship, evading spacepir8s and disregarding the astroconstabulary

Not even remotely out. The footage I've seen looks nice though. I'm not preordering it, but if it comes out and it's good I'll probably buy it, because it does look like it has potential.

That's basically ED right now.

For singleplayer-only, give The Precursors a try.

The only conceivable way that anyone would think that any space game is just a "no mans sky 2" is if they are a Hollywood movie producer.
Example: a movie about ducks didn't do well after the opening weekend, therefore no more ducks in any movies, ever

If anything im surprised that EA, ubisoft and Activision aren't actively trying to piece together their own "clones" of Nothing to do but look at the fucking ground mans sky.

It shows a literal non game in this genre is absolutely in demand, so much in fact that people just bought it no questions asked

...

Spore

Did spore fucking kill it. No.

Elite Dangerous
Evochron Legacy

While on the topic, is Rebel Galaxy any good? The soundtrack is pretty dope.

Mind you, I don't really play many spess games.

I remember a guy starting a shill thread and refunding it halfway through, it's pretty shit, like the devs had no fucking idea what they were trying to do.

I have it, I think it's fine. It's about as close to what I've been looking for in a space game that I think I'll ever get to. For what it does, it does fine. It's not perfect, and there's the whole "can't fly up or down" bit, but it's got a neat aesthetic, the gameplay feels like Ass Creed IV but in space, and there's enough gameplay variety to keep me interested.

...

Got it for free and still can't force my way through it. The game's combat is interesting but everything else around it is pretty bland.

The fact that you can't fly in three dimensions and can only move on a 2D plane turned me off the game and I didn't play, even though I don't really play 3D real time space games it kind of bothered me, it might be really good though.

It's going to be a disaster

You can only move two-dimensionally, the combat is a joke and the game itself is kind of a mess. I wouldn't recommend actually playing it.

I recently found this video and it describes my whole opinion;

That's where you're retarded. A ship that size isn't going to dogfight. I got enough out of it and felt the missions were interesting enough. No real urge to go back to it though.

This cycle has been with us since the beginning of man. And it will be with us at the end.

Nothing was ruined, faggot :)

In terms of mainstream games played by fucking normalfags, NMS was a defining first space exploration game. Like you can say "Elite: Dangerous" and "X3" but normalfags don't play these games, they just play what the gaming media tells them on their consoles.

NMS wasn't the first of its kind but for many people it was. And those people are the casuals who actually buy these video games.

"I recently found this video"
just say you made this shitty meme shit faggot

The entire game is basically space trucker the simulator. it's nice.

No it's you're retarded if you think its of any value. And nobody ever mentioned dogfights.

Actually combat system on this game is plain equipment tier check. That's all. It's impossible to develop any "skill" in such simplistic model.
Tiny example: if your guns is 1 or 2 (dont remember) tiers below enemy shield - it regens faster than you hit.

There is also no meaningful trading or whatever. This shitty combat in 2d spess is all there is. All star systems also exactly the same. With same enemies and same random kill X/fetch missions. Enemy level is increasing as you "progress" that's all. I couldn't make myself finish it.

its like people havent been paying attention to things the 16 years theyve been alive

I am not white and I don't speak(not write) english. since you didn't sage I can understand that you liked the shitty meme shit faggot

kys nigger

Because the genre was going so strong before hand right?

There will still be good A and B space games and AAA will continue to ignore it because it isn't a cash cow like FPS, ASSFAGGOTS and anything P2W.

OP is clinically retarded and doesn't have even a basic grasp of how the industry works.

who are these 'good non-attentionwhores doing work in that art form that doesn't suck.'

Good.
Fuck it.
Was a stupid genre anyway.
We need more action games.
About samurai.

nioh was trash

Not as trash as "No Man, don't Buy"

yeah I pass. I'd rather play as a big guy with a very fucking big sword and armor instead.

...

You just fucking said that these people have never given a damn about the genre until now

But you know what? Fuck it. If this is how you're going to frame it then Sean Murray is a god damned saint for helping to ensure that the genre never gets casualised in order to attract a wider audience.

What? No it wasn't.

You can use a battle axe

try that lords of the fallen game then

I bet you're the kind of idiot who thinks someone you don't like who draws porn of your favorite series has ruined it.

Oh wait, you have some reasoning?
Ignorant faggot. School starts soon, go clean your backpack.

I think you got lost on the way
>>>/blog/

Your thread is shit, op. NMS is just some shit a few hipsters are going to circlejerk around until they get bored. It doesn't have furfag characters so don't expect it to stick around

OST for this thread and Sean Murray, wherever you are you space bandit you. No really, did he go into hiding?

The thing is that nobody should like the game, and the braindead retards who not only spent money on No Man's Sky and also enjoyed it somehow should no longer be allowed to make purchasing decisions in the gaming industry anymore.

yandere dev your game is shit. I'll never get the drawfags to draw porn of her. balls

This is why the Japanese games industry is superior.

...

Your pic is one of the ones Yanderedav used to post from his reaction image folder. Probably just a coincidence though.

No prob. I forgot who I saved it from. Might have been him for all I know.

wew

where is Sean Murray? Is that even his real name?

I need to know because science.

His name implies he's Irish, but he's actually an Englishman.
I wouldn't be shocked if that wasn't his real name.

What do you guise think about Empyrion?

Hiding among the 18 quintillion procedurally generated nu male beard follicles. Also post pics of the most punchable faces of Sean Murray, if you dare.

No Man's Sky trivializes the accomplishments of scientists, engineers, miners, astronauts and biologists, and basically shits all over the incredible things that… fuck, the chemistry and ecology of one of your boogers has more to discover than you could ever dream. Your carpet is a jungle, your body is a universe unto itself; Hello Games and by extension (((Sean Murray))) have made it obvious they neither have an understanding nor appreciation for science.

One drop of Scottish blood is all it takes.

What?

I personally hate block based building games, but i did kinda liked this game. just wish it wasn't a fucking block builder.

Why the fuck don't we have a game about exploring your body at a microscopic level?

...

Its 2, depending on your set up. Going majority beams with some ion cannons can deal make it less of a dps race, but it is still going to be a dps race as you get to larger classes of ships. You can't fucking do anything but snipe some of the turrets off of enemy ships at that point and just shit out damage.

I also feel like some pieces of equipment grow increasingly irrelevant as you get bigger ships.

Smashing.

Hello, Jerry.

i didn't want to be woke to this chinese voodoo eye shit man

If you really want to fund something that that is already great and that might turn into a game then send Ivan some shekels.

It's been 18 days since Sean's last twitter post. How much is he contemplating suicide?

That didn't take long to procedurally generate, that didn't take long at all. It's like an intelligently designed punchable face.

...

Every multiplayer gamer will remind themselves about EVE going f2p.
Everyone who wants to get space flying simulator will go to games that actually allows you to do it.
Even every casual will remind themselves about Starbound being better.

On thing I hope people will see as "No Man's Sky 2" is starcitizen but hey of course they will just ride along hype train that already started.

No it fucking hasn't, you moron.

It just teaches a bunch of nimrods that procedural generation isn't what it's cracked up to be.

Well fellow gamer, it's a good thing that your favorite video game studio BioWare™ is releasing a hip new space exploration game next year!

That would be sexist.

It's a comfy ass game.

I don't know OP, Minecraft ignited the indie scene and kikestarter when it should have done the opposite.
Those cringe Game/Dev Defense Force faggots plaguing steam are in the majority.

...

NMS is a super ambitious concept. They have a 15 person dev-team compared to AAA games which have 200+ people working on them for 5 years.

I never expected it to live up to the hype and the bold lies of Sean Murray. This should have been a $20-30 early access game. I got it from kickass torrents and paid $0. I've been playing it a bunch and I find it pretty enjoyable.

The key thing, is that No Man's Sky is clearly not finished. It's a rough diomond that needs to be cut and polished before it will really shine. I've been keeping a close eye on the modding community and they are doing good work.

nexusmods.com/nomanssky/?

nomansskymods.com/

Obviously the game has a ton of flaws, but I've installed a dozen mods that fix some of the worst offenders.
I installed the mod that makes space black instead of all sorts of fruity colors.
I installed a mod that lets me fly my space ship low to the ground, underwater, and crash into things, it also lets me hover in place. Being able to actually control my ship instead of it being on shitty autopilot goes a long way toward making it a more enjoyable experience.
I installed a mod that lets me get resources while in my ship with the ships beam cannon, which was a shitty omission. So i can fly around shooting animals and birds and destroying forests etc.
I installed a mod that gets rid of that little delay on all button presses, and im sure over many hours it will save me a lot of time. It was a shitty design choice to put in that delay.

I hope Hello Games releases some sort of modding tools so that people can go ahead and add those features they were unable to add at launch. I'm sure they will continue to patch it to fix bugs and crashes and eventually they will release some DLC content but the bulk of the improvements will come from the modding community.

Theres a couple things that the game is lacking that I hope they will patch or mod into the game.
1st - better creature AI. The wildlife is so fucking dumb, they mostly just stand around. I would like to see predators hunting prey, and maybe even bigger more dangerous boss type monsters.
2nd - meaningful factions. I want to see the different alien races fighting each other in space battles and be able to choose sides, and have that effect my standing with those races.
3rd - Id like to see people mod in some more custom content and missions to make the planets feel a bit more unique.

...

I'm sure if you wait 6 months, so they can add more content and fix the bugs, it will be available on a steam sale for half price and the modding community will have added a lot of the features it needs. I may even buy it then. It's not a worthless game, it does have potential, it's just not ready yet.

This.

ED is as much a scam as NMS and SC and was plummeting in player numbers until NMS failed so hard people started saying that ED wasn't so bad after all.

Are posts in this thread made by actual human beings or are they all procedurally generated?

Have a Mokou.

Every game is made better by modding it.
What most people don't seem to understand is that making games is hard work. It requires a lot of time and effort. Hundreds of thousands of work hours.

If 15 people work on a game for 8 hours a day 5 days a week for 4 years, that is maybe 8000 man hours.
Now release that game to the modding community, and you have maybe 1000 people who will devote hours or even days to making a mod. You can see how that doubles or even triples the amount of man hours devoted to a game.

This is why AAA games have 200+ people work for 5 years on a game. A finished AAA game requires that level of time and effort invested into it and even then, they can fail. Just look at that batman game that barely even worked at launch, or the ass creed game where people didn't have faces, just teeth and eyeballs floating in emptiness. Even the pro's fuck up sometimes.

It's almost like you're trying to sell me something~

Your weight is an industry as a whole

I wonder what the budget of this game was. If they had 212k players at launch that each paid $60, that comes to about 12.7 million dollars. Considering the tiny size of the dev-team, they probably made a decent profit even after the large number of refunds.

I'm not shilling in my posts from yesterday. I stole the game and paid nothing. I'm just saying that I had a good time playing it and mods are making it better. I've seen much worse games. People have every right to be mad about the lies, but I do a bit of game development myself and I know that you can't always get all the planned features implemented by the time that release date comes along.

Hello Games should have come out and said that they were unable to finish the game and released it as an early access game at a reduced price. Everybody would have been happy. I bet the exec's at Sony didn't give them much choice.

No one cried when Mario killed off the platforming genera.

The same logic can be applied to how GTA killed off the "Traffic Sandbox" genre. Mario and GTA are forerunners of their respective genre (Donkey Kong came out in 1981 so there was very little as far as "platformers" go before Mario even became a thing) and became successful partially because of that

OP is being fucking retarded because
1.) NMS was not a success at all

2.) There have been examples of successful space exploration games done before that

unlimited bait works
