Now is any of that functionality you would need as an individual operator? No. With a little practice, though, those latter features can be really useful in coordinating action with squad sized elements or larger. I wouldn't spend the money, personally.

The difference between PVS-7 and PVS-14's is huge, though. If you have the choice between a nightvision monocular or binoculars, you should choose the monocular every time. Having one eye free free keeps your depth perception from getting thrown off, and that helps a lot with not tripping yourself when you're moving in the dark.
