Will DLC ever become unpopular with the common consumer?

Not as long as it continues to make money. As long as people are buying it, companies will continue to push it, and the common consumer will buy into it. It's a positive feedback loop. The only way I can see breaking it is if someone goes back to the "expansion pack" model with lots of new content at a reasonable price and they make a shitton of money off of it. Ideally we'd have games with both expansion packs and DLC (maybe with packs of DLC included with expansions) but I guess EA and a bunch of other companies haven't figured out that principle of balance yet.
