Having never played anything of the series and hearing that the most recent DmC was an atrocity to the previous games, I decided to pick up pic related.

We're all familiar with the damp memes DmC generated because of how shit the writing was, but honestly DMC4 is very barely any better. Anons always praised these games but I don't see it yet. Is this another series case of the further back you go, the better?

Also, the gameplay feels like a clunky fighting game, but I'll just attribute that to still finding my bearings for now.

If this isn't bait, it might as well be.

Nah. DMC 3 was when they got it right in terms of game play. 4 does play a little clunky at first, but I think I'd does get better when it let's you get cuh-razy.

You play franchises in release order or don't play them at all.

I wanna fuck dante

Is there any way I could humbly request a clock of Nero screaming Kyrie?

DMC4's problem comes from reused environments and the massive cut content, which is a shame because combat really gets interesting and complex when you play as Dante

It stings how great the gameplay has evolved from 3 to become, but everything else is lacking.

Its more sad in the special edition where the new characters dont even seem to get new levels. I can only hope it Capcom makes a DMC5 it turns into GOAT material.

No one ever praised DMC for the story (though DMC3 had some great parts to it). But, DMC never really took its story seriously. Everyone made fun of DmC because it did take its story seriously.

Also, keep in mind that you start out with only a tiny fraction of the abilities and moves you can get. Once you gain a few artifacts and buy a few moves, you'll probably start to have a lot more fun.

Okay user, I'm definitely baiting. You can leave now.

When's DMC 5?

You dont play a hack and slash for the writing.
DmC actively insults your intelligence, however.

you need to unlock every move first, then the game gets really fun and technical. Hell, people are still finding things out about the combat.

I don't know about this game but the title really bothers me.

I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole.

How the fuck do I get better as Lady? Her playstyle is way different from any other character's.

Just finished it right now funnily enough.

I really liked it. 3 is probably better despite 4 being more fluid to play. I'm not a fan of the asset/level re-using though and don't know if I can be bothered going through the game two more times as Vergil and Lady/Trish.

You need to jerk off to more Lady porn so you feel a closer connection with her.

Just play the second game. It's the only one that matters and the best in the series.

...

These games get better the longer you play them as you unlock more techniques and refine your playstyle. I'd go back and either start with 1 or 3. 1 is dated mechanically at this point considering it's 15 years old but it's pretty damn good aesthetically. 3 still plays quite well (if you haven't experienced DMC4 Dante) but you pretty much ruin any chance of enjoying 1's gameplay once you get into it. 4 has great mechanics but jank as fuck progression, plus you have to play as Nero when you'd rather be playing as Dante. Haven't touched 2 or DmC myself but I hear to generally stay away from those anyways.

Holy shit, this is great. Can't believe I've never once seen this until now.

Devil May Cry 3 is the only game in the series which is fun to play in 2016.

If you have an appreciation for how game genres have evolved you might like Devil May Cry 1 but honestly that game has aged like milk.

2 was always shit, opting to strip out the elements people liked from 1 and replacing them with Diesel jeans.

4 was a rushed out unfinished mess with shit enemy design. The only people I know who like it only play in bloody palace with debug mode.

I still loved playing 4 while it lasted, but the rest of the game could be so much better. Fighting Echidna as Nero might be my favorite boss battle ever, though, just because everything you do to whittle away at her health or keep her from doing the same to you feels entirety under your control, no hand holding QTE bullshit whatsoever. Even beating the shit out of her with Devil Bringer you have to be the one initiating and pounding away. So fucking satisfying from my perspective of playing the game and series the first time ever on Devil Hunter at my brother's insistence. I get what you mean when you say the enemy design was shit.

And is Crimson Palace that one floating challenge area that you see for upgrades?
