I wouldn't say that imageboards are dying as long as 4chan still exists even if its become a shitty place, but I will say that I can't see its continued existence being a good thing. For other imageboards to thrive, 4chan needs to dissolve and let other sites try competing for its place.

There's been organized effort to destroy Holla Forums through every mean from DDOS to attacking the domain and admins, yet here we still are. The only way to kill an imageboard is to convince the users to leave somehow.
