TLJ scores now off-axis, into Ewoks territory

The Ewoks movie is childhood kino.

Battle for Endor is a good movie, it's a meme to hate it because of Ewoks.

I watched people exiting the theater for this movie yesterday. No one was smiling, except the moms or girlfriends who aren’t really fans. To them, it was indistinguishable from real Star Wars. The young boys looked miserable. There’s simply nothing for a young boy to like in this movie.

What country?

US.

Honestly feel bad for millenials.

Is leaving the theater a common thing in America? It never happened where I live, but I keep hearing stories of americans leaving the theater all the time.

It just feels like throwing your money away, it's not like you're in home watching a movie on TV and you can skip the channel anytime in 1 second, for free.

...

I meant they were exiting after it finished. Almost no one leaves a movie once they pay for it in America.

I would do it too

No, it makes no sense to leave a movie while you paid for it unless you're really pissed off and irritated by it. It's not something unique to America, I figure anyone would do it if they're that dissatisfied.

Woah - there was an ewoks movie?

There were three of them.

is it true you can get a refund if you complain to the manager?

I find bizarre how normies loved TFA but are rejecting TLJ. What's so different about them? The characters are slightly more flawed but still pretty much the same, the action is similar, the humor is similar, and there is SJWism everywhere.

Was the lack of a lightsaber duel at the end? Was it because TFA was released before the Trump era?

No.
Most if not all theaters will not give refunds if you leave and that's written into their company policy. You know how much money they would lose?

Anchoring. They believed TFA was a good movie, partially due to it being a new Star Wars movie after so long, partially due to marketing. TLJ didn't enjoy such advantages, and was likely a victim of transference, because everyone moved their complaints of TFA onto TLJ (that also had them). Give it a few more years and people will start saying TFA is also shit.

...

Yes, but this is already happening. Disney played it safe because the IP itself assured that people would enjoy it if it was a copy of the original. Many fans want something that is derivative of the original, instead of something new and exciting like the Prequels were. Critics didn't savagely destroy the movies because they're told not to, and are influenced by Disney to not give a bad score. This movie shouldn't be an 86 on Metacritic, but it's that score because critics don't understand grading. Look at any number of the reviews, they'll say the film is deeply flawed and end up giving it a very high score because they approach it like a school grade instead of like a film score. Fans hated this film because it throws everything they liked about Star Wars into the garbage, and essentially ruins the original trilogy by making the entire conflict meaningless.

this

t. Kathleen Kennedy

They underestimated how much people genuinely love and idolize Luke Skywalker and having him betray all of his ideals wasn't going to sit right with a huge percentage of people.

How does this post in any way shape or form seem like it was written by Kathleen Kennedy?

Not just that they gave him no real to do so and a further insult was that the nu-characters he sacrificed himself and beliefs for are loathsome garbage no one cares about.

...

Depends on the place and if you bail on the movie early enough into the run time. I knew a guy that got his money back after walking out on The Happening.

Nothing happened.

Herd mentality. TFA was bad, but people made excuses. TLJ had actual fans fuming, not just disappointed. Others see this, then say they hate it because they want to look like long term fans, because SW is geek culture, and geek culture is still cool.

Exactly. Caravan of Courage wasn't very good, but Battle for Endor was a favorite movie of mine even to this day. It is pretty interesting to see small scale events taking place within the universe.

Yep. Cindel is annoying as shit, but Wilfred Brimley as Noa and Teek are pretty good characters that make up for it. I wouldn't recommend Caravan of Courage though.

Normalfags refuse to admit their own negative opinions of something unless someone they perceive to be in a position of authority over them does it first, hence why every YouTube critic's shtick is "I am angry and I review because everything sucks". Mark Hamill himself has gone against the disney movies, and it dealt a killing blow to their credibility in the eyes of normalfags.

Nu-geekdom is cancer. Most of it is just plain old attention whoring for beta bux. I've seen countless girls post things related to capeshit and/or vidya shit on their social media accounts acting like they have always been nerds forevah ecks dee!11!

The appeal to authority fallacy is so common among normalfags that it is almost like a part of default human behavior.

Kathleen show us your tits.

Nothing you are saying makes any sense, maybe once you graduate from high school you'll be able to craft an argument instead of spilling your spaghetti.

Because TFA was a safe, nostalgia baiting film. Because it was the first new Star Wars movie in over a decade. The lolsuchanerd XD crowd had to like it because its STAR WARS OMG LOL, the soyboys had to like it because it was ultimately about a diverse group of people fighting whitey. People were willing to overlook its flaws as it was the first new film, an introduction and everyone was banking on TLJ to explain a lot of things and deliver truly.

Instead Rey becomes even more of a Mary Sue, Snoke the new big bad villain they were hyping up gets killed off like it was nothing and he never mattered. Luke's character is absolutely tarnished and everything he did in the original trilogy was undone. SuperLeia, Luke syncing up with the Force Web and having that bullshit Matrix fight with Ren. Too many flaws, too many middle fingers to fans that have supported Star Wars for decades.

So many things they could have done with these films, but its far too late to salvage them. Ultimately, this first trilogy is just going to be the introduction anyway. We'll have another trilogy with Rey and Finn spreading the love of miscegenation across the galaxy in less than a decade. They could have done something cool, something unique, something that doesn't obliterate Lucas' work, the characters that so many love. Snoke could be some amalgamation of the Sith, born from the Force through sheer will and he comes back to finish what the Emperor started. Maybe his affinity with the Force meant he could cut off Luke from it, so Luke has to go into exile and regain his power. That at least would be something that doesn't completely ruin Luke's character and I just shat that idea out in five seconds.

TFA had teh whole 'dont worry about the plot holes it will all be explained in the next movie' kind of vibe.

TLJ was more like, 'LOL every question you wanted to know about starwars doesnt matter'.

I r4emeber watching the last Merican made godzilla movie
everyone in the cinema boooed it every time they kaijus were about to fight but the movie cuts back to the humans doing human shit
then i heard that when Kylo and old Luke are finally going to fight, old Luke turns out to be just an astral projection with the real one dying in his hermit planet…
if that isn't enough to warrant normie hatre i don't know what is
same with Snoke, they hyped him up as the final boss and he had such a shitty death
even Palpatin had a better death as he fell screaming and shotting lightin after tormenting the MC and forcing Vader to have a change of heart
normies like spectacle and this movie robbed them of 2 amazing fights with two very powerfull characters killing them both in retarded ways

People seem to forget that the phantom menace was well received when it was released, it was only later that it became cool to hate.

You don't know what you're missing. Caravan of Courage (pic 1) is kind of slow and boring but Battle for Endor (pic 2) might unironically be the fourth best Star Wars movie tbh.

Even a wooden five year old child actor like Cindel manages to be a more compelling protagonist than Rey.

user, you just shat that idea out yet it sounds so good that i regret nobody will ever make it reality
the previous villains were just dudes using evil powers, but this would have been evil itself, the ultimat villain for a jedy to vanquish.
they could have even explained why Rey was such a Mary Sue by saiyng she is the oposite of Snoke, the light side incarnatedm and because both of them were born, previus generations of Jedis and sith lost a fuck load of power wich would also would explain why Luke went into exile
it could have been the ultimate battle between good and evil and it would actually give plot reason to the plot hole of Rey being such a Mary Sue as well as explain the mistery of her parents but nooooooooooo
shitty writting it is
i bet this board could write a better scrip with just shitposting

This is it. The movie’s hook was Hamill returning as Luke and Rian instead wanted the movie to be about how great a writer he was. For soy eaters and women who didn’t give a shit about Star Wars, Luke being a huge faggot doesn’t matter. Once the rest of is saw it, we hated it.

they could've but why would they

My idea was that Luke was tricked into performing a Force ritual which split himself into three pieces. His Dark Side became a twisted version of his Father’s form (Snoke), his Gray Jedi Side was the one which wandered back and fucked everything up, and his Light Side piece settled on a planet and had a wife and kids, protecting a small settlement from raiders with his power. The last movie would be finding that piece, and the being which tricked him would be an ancient shapeshifter, a dark sider aligned with chaos. He had been Jar Jar, and -in a stunning reveal- was Finn the whole time.

That sounds utterly retarded, sign on the line, welcome to the Disney

The marysue is some Luke mother somehow and daughter as well. Fixed
where's my disney pay check?

Second time is the charm… bloody keyboard.

Pretty much this. Its being hated by people that like TFA since it makes them look like idiots for defending it in the first place. Instead of offering something new and interesting… It offered nothing.

That is pretty sad isn't it. Although Rey suffers from being a Force goddess, and having only so many facial expressions that she uses to convey every single emotion. Hayden Christensen is damn near Oscar caliber for whatever that's worth when compared to Daisey.

Have you ever noticed that even our most joking and shitpost predictions of what TLJ was going to be were often better than what they actually did? We could go about trying to destroy the entire franchise ourselves and still likely come up with something superior.

I actually saw it in theaters. The crowd were laughing at every shit joke. They cheered when titlecard came on, the clapped when it was over.

Yeah, that's it, blame the keyboard.

Thats just Americans being americlaps.

Your audience was filled with soyboys and stronk womyn.

No, I was in there. Some people were laughing and some people clapped. They were called moms.

Never seen a Star Wars movie before. Should I?

I'm Irish

Oh. Well then they were drunk and starving because there were no potatoes.

Watch The Phantom Menace.

Watch A New Hope, then watch Empire, then watch Return of the Jedi while keeping in mind that originally the Ewoks were supposed to be Wookies like Chewbacca, and then enjoy a quite literal interpretation of the hero's journey laid out by Joseph Campbell, a good arc with a beginning, middle, and end, and nothing else.

How come episode 4, 5 and 6 came before episode 1, 2 and 3?

Some rumors say Lucas wanted to do the prequels first, while Lucas himself says it was another homage to old Flash Gordon serials to make it feel bigger in scope.

Why do Jews care about ratings? They got their shekels.

They are getting less shekels, and low ratings mean low merchandising sales.

Other than the fact it means more shekels over time, ratings are like a forecast for how the franchise health trend is for future releases. It also serves as a hype mechanism, to cite previous success as an indicator of "trust" for people to purchase the next product.

Ratings are overall irrelevant, but in this context are helpful to gauge as companies use them as marketing and sales metrics. This sort of result, with this sort of money flowing into it, is the sort of thing that can get people fired or kill IPs. Since Disney has revealed itself to be poor stewards of the story, discovering that this is at a low level is beneficial for anyone who wishes to see their current efforts frustrated.

This is how kino falls with thunderous dies

this but get the despecalized versions

Thank you for the defending the interests of The Walt Disney Company. 0.005 cents were added to your account.

Its not making enough money as they wanted. This movie will not even top TFA.

Disney are a bunch of dumbasses. Many of the conjectures made by the fans were more interesting than the final product.

It was never going to come close to TFA. it might not even top 1 billion

I'll tell you this right now, it's because they thought TFA was leading into something else.
They didn't watch it on its own merits like we did, they watched it expecting it all to work in context with another movie. Now that other movie is out and it's just as bad.
Even Jay noted in the RLM review that people are beginning to hate TFA now as well.
Remember the prequels? They were mostly liked on release, then became hated years later. The same is happening for these movies but even faster.

If you're familiar with video games, TFA was the "New Super Mario Brothers" of Star Wars movies in that it was the first one in forever so people forgave the shortcomings. When the next movie made it clear that rehashing was all they'll do, not to mention the character butchering, people retroactively turned on it.

I hated Phantom Menace from the onset. The thing that didn't set well with me was the ridiculous amount of CGI.

This is pretty much every movie now.

One of the reasons Disney bought Star Wars was because it was a boy brand. They wanted to expand their market. They fucked up by letting virtue signalling convince them it was a good idea to hand the keys over to a feminist cunt. It's the future they chose. One of Kennedy's early edicts was that they series would produce no new white male heroes, which of course had destroyed their merchandising operation.

How can a multi billion-dollar company be this fucking stupid? Never. Ever. Let politics influence your product unless you're absolutely certain which market you're selling to. Star Wars is a Sci-Fi action adventure franchise targeted towards teenage boys. Hence the hero is a nobody who eventually saves the day and gets the girl. Why the fuck would you allow political activist fuck this up? It's like a guy buying the rights for Sex and the City and deciding the portrayal of the men is unrealistic, so he changes it by including one ugly midgets. Nobody would think this is a good idea, so why is it allowed with stuff like Star Wars, James Bond, etc.? These movies are supposed to be male power fantasies. Just as Fifty Shades of Grey or the Chippendales are the same trash for women. It's like a porn company deciding to become more women-friendly by not showing any nudity. Again, does nobody at Disney understand their own job?

I noticed that the end shot of TLJ was oddly a young white boy playing. It almost felt like a toy commercial. I wonder if the toy makers begged them to insert that.

People hate on New Mario Bros series because of the graphics, no other reason.

TLJ is being hated because of frustrated expectations.

No, the prequels were divisive and polemic since Episode I.

This is a lie. They were widely panned at release. Everything RLM said about them was said at the time, by lots of people. I'm not talking about critics. I'm talking about normal people.

fug my memory must be going because I remember people liking them

I'm sure there were people who liked them (kids especially), but I knew plenty of people who thought they were crappy.

What happened to the prequels and what's happening to this Disney trash is just 'poetry'

Because I remember plenty of people hated ESB and RoJT when they were new.

So really, it's the eternal return. We keep living through the same hell over and over again.

The same things happened at Sony and Yahoo when they let feminist cat ladies run the companies into the ground. Disney is too big to fail, so hopefully someone with a brain actually comes in and tells Kathleen Kennedy, Rian Johnson and similar ilk to fly a kite. Their current trajectory tells me they're going to end up like the Justice League movie unless they make hug concessions to the fans and make substantive changes.

I want the plebbitor to leave

Kike Cucklasa hated the prequels so much that he's unable to say out loud that the JJ new trilogy sucks and it is worse than the prequels.

Read pic related. It's not about making money, it's about taking things away from white, heterosexual men and smashing them to pieces.

The fastest way to kill your ideology is to drain money away from it.

The Jews don't give a shit. They get government grants in Europe, and in the US they just get one of their banker friends to make them a loan or for the government to bail them out. Just look at Twitter, it's never made any money to the people in charge of it, it's not even broken even, yet it keeps chugging along because (((investors))) keep injecting money into it. There's no risk of failing when you control the financial institutions.

No that's an outright lie and it was only a few vocal people on the internet doing so. I never saw any actual critique of the prequels until 2005-isch.

...

The Prequels get better with age though, like wine.

Metacritic's numbers are even worse.

You remember weird shit then because they were both extremely well received.

BS; I know for sure that TESB got mixed reviews when it came out.

Look at some old ass threads on SW forums, TPM had a very lukewarm reception.

No one fucking cares about critics. They’re hopeless retards. Audiences loved it.

JUST

It did, but not like this. People thought it was weak but there wasn’t a common refrain that said Star Wars was dead.

Well, it is hard to know for sure what audiences thought about it back then, a lot of people are probably looking back at it now with their rose-tinted nostalgia goggles.
Also, reviewers back then weren't as cucked as todays gossip-peddlers.

There was no real expectation for a Star Wars sequel. It outperformed what people thought, and they were actually more irritated it took three years for ROTJ to come out. And critics have always been cucks.

ROTJ was the end of the trilogy and while the Ewoks are seen retroactively as shit, at the time they were popular enough to launch a movie series and Wicket became a celebrated little actor.

TPM is when people were confronted with the idea a Star Wars film could be bad, and then it was fashionable to bash the prequels because people expected the “I am your Father” and Emperor’s throne room from every scene. Mike was a latecomer to it all but kind of distilled the essence of the contemporary 2005 Star Wars fanboy into his reviews.

TESB had an underwhelming box office.

Maybe you are misremembering how much hype there was for episode 1. I think it's the first time I ever heard of anyone lining up the night before for something. Even as a kid though I felt it was a let down as did most of my friends. I think we were the last generation that actually used vhs tapes pretty often so we had watched the original trilogy a ton during weekends even as background to other stuff.

There was tons of hype, I remember it well. We were all excited for it. I'd been hearing since I was a kid that Lucas had always intended for there to be more movies. And then we saw the prequels, and they were godawful. They were a huge disappointment.

The prequels were pure kino. I remember getting blown away by them after having watched the OT on VHS. That podracing segment was incredible.

This meme has been run into the ground.

...

Whatever made you think it was a meme?

You are full of shit, Disney shill. It made $450 million in 1980. In modern dollars that’s $1.3 billion. When it was rereleased in the 90s, it made another $538 million, or $845 million.

So TESB didn’t underperform shit. Critics disliked it because they’re faggots. That’s all.

Proof that ome potato famine isn't enough.

You ever thought about looking through the Usenet archive, user? Pretty sure you could get some contemporary opinions about ESB and ROTJ pretty easily that way.

it will probably get somewhere around rogue one's gross.

phantom menace had more sets and practical effects/models than the ot lol, get fucked reddit.

Actually, you know what? Here's some stuff to get you started. This is just on net.movies, you could look elsewhere for additional discussion beyond this location. This is also a very small selection of material from around the 1981-1983 time period.

anh is also like the second highest-grossing film of all time, adjusted for inflation.
