This. Only reason the series got this much hate. Game itself was good, hell of a lot better than even AAA titles. You also get your money's worth with a good amount of time.
People hate the "oh there's furry shit in it" due to the nonhuman cast. This also consequently brought along the normalfag furries that drenched the fanbase with cancer. This in turn pushed harder on the notion that it was initially a furry game. Thus made this a self-induced cycle.

Holla Forums at large doesn't really hate the game because Holla Forums at large is indifferent and doesn't respond, it's a minority of autists both for and against it. The game was okay but it didn't deserve much of the fanfare it got. Soundtrack's the best part of it, if Hard Mode had actually been worked on it would've jumped from 5/10 to 7 or 8/10.

I played the game, it was shit. It filled a niche, which is one reason why so many faggots defend it, but it so fucking terribly.

Aside from from the two genocide fights, literally every other fight was babby tier. The concept of RPG turn based + bullet hell was rare, but the execution was fucking shit.
Hipster shit all around. The color pallete is bad, and the style and quality are inconsistent.
Was okay, and a couple songs may even be considered good. Funny thing. This is the only game I've ever played that made me enjoy the music less after having played it.
It was fucing terrible. Plot holes everywhere, characters had terrible personalities. The gay scene was definitely forced as everyhting prior to it suggested Sans would hook up with fish face and Alphys was hopelessly in love with the Chara.

I think the most unforgivable thing in this game is Undyne. She started off as a serious threat and refreshing change from the CU-RAY-ZEE antics of the local retards. She attacked you out of combat, chased you down, came with her own dramatic shadowing. Even when she took off her mask she was the first person to tell you without being an edgy little shit that trying to befriend everything trying to kill you was stupid, then proceeded to fight you until you figured out to just run for it. This was the last time she was good, since after that she was demoted to gag character, then token lesbian for the tumblrlizard weeaboo. How does a character get that bad that quickly?

I feel like most monsters should've been like Undyne - dangerous and not hostile. Make it harder for the relevant characters to go out of their way to befriend a human. Have to work really hard at it and risk losing their status for harboring the enemy.
Would make a genocide a bit more interesting by having them actually organize their forces to take you down. It'd have been great to run across Asgore earlier in the game; leading his troops to stop you. Due to luck or maybe with Flowey intervening, Asgore takes an injury that forces him to withdraw. Then near the end of the game, Asgore blocks the way to the last of his people while wielding the six human souls.
Could've done a lot better with the game.

There was implied depth within the game, and theorizing on these "obviously will be followed up on" hooks and goat posting took up most of each thread. As people realized that most of this shit was style over substance, some quicker than others, the generals slowly died a natural death as the internet moved on.

And then a couple months down the line some buttmad autist(s) with shitty taste in music started spamming get out tumblrtale and is pretty much responsible for the weird "is this on topic" state we're in now.

The fact that this game uses the power of friendship trope is enough to write it off, but on top of that it has furry characters with Homestuck tier writing, and some edgy OC that wants to kill everything. The only thing I can really praise this game for is how NG+ dialogue is affected by what you did in the last playthrough. It's a mediocre game for mediocre people, and I should know considering everyone I know who bought this also plays League of Legends on a regular basis.
