I have seen this in other class based shooters but I'd rather not make a new thread for this.

Haven't you noticed that sometimes, specially when you use a sniper or the like how a member of the opposing team decides to focus on you and sometimes you alone when they use the same class?

I have been singled out by widows when I am using Ana or Hanzo (despite him being not quite a sniper), got players to switch to Reaper to kill my own Reaper half of the time, and of course, enemy Genjis targetting me alone instead of doing their job.

What's their problem?

There's both a skill tier and a skill rank. Your initial placement determines both, and you can't lose your tier, only rank. Your rank determines who you play with, and hitting thresholds lets you move up in tiers.

The tiers are, essentially, a way for players to stop getting assblasted when they get fucked over by awful teammates, so that even if you end up on a losing streak and struggle to get up, people will see that you're not bad, just unlucky. If you see someone with a low rank AND low tier, then they're clearly awful at the game.

From bronze (or whatever the lowest ranking is) to platinum, you cannot lose that ranking level once you reach it. However, you can still lose your ranking points by losing and go under what is required to reach gold or silver, but you won't derank. So if you go below gold by a good number of points, you'll still be gold, but you'll just be playing against silver players until you get your shit together and get back up. It sounds like it's more of a way to reward players of reaching whatever rank level you get to.

If you're in diamond of master league, you can lose that rank, so if you dip below the diamond requirement, you'll be thrown back into platinum.

every 500 or so points you'll get placed in a new competitive group. like (and dont take me literally here i'm talking out of my ass) 0 - 500 0 copper, 501-1k 0 silver, 1001 - 1500 = gold, etc. but when you do reach silver you can't go back down to copper. you can be silver 999 and you can fall back to silver 0 but you can't go back to copper. seems okay to me since you'll still have to keep getting better to get into a higher tier. that way, you'll just be stuck in a tier and if you want out you still gotta git gud. only potential problem i see here are griefers. i mean, once you get into silver, what's stopping you from picking hanzo every game if you don't care about getting better. you won't go below it so you can just troll people for as long as it stays interesting. they lose their rating but if yours is on the lowest for your current bracket you won't lose it.

That makes a lot more sense and sounds pretty decent but I can already tell boosting is going to become a thing with this shit.

They might implement seasonal rewards based on both tier and rank, to encourage players to always aim for the top. A good tier will get you one reward, but having your skill rank be above the minimum of your tier nets you a bonus.

I'm kind of glad that they're nerfing Zenyatta. While it's nice to have a support hero who can dish out some serious damage I feel the class is just too simplistic at the moment. I'm hoping a damage nerf will be done alongside some changes to maybe he mobility and how his orbs work to make him more interesting to play. I still can't believe a character who moves by floating has no advanced mobility.

Lucio has a similar problem actually, he's a walking (or rolling) contradiction. He's clearly best played among the main group where his passives can be at their most useful. But his other abilities seem to be geared towards him doing his own thing. It's hard to find opportunities to pull of environmental kills because too often it feels like you're putting the team at risk just to try and get some potg-bait kills.

I only got a decent team early in the morning, they helped me go up 3 ranks, I only lost 1 recently and only because I lost more than half a rank for a single loss.

An earlier match we lost was because there was this guy who refused to play anything but Hanzo, we went 2-2 on Hanamura, then we got sudden death, we had to attack, by that point the rest of the team was asking him to switch, he never replied, I wouldn't say I was carrying the team but the others were clearly better organized.

The point is the same. I'm sick of seeing a widowmaker and an Ana when we need a DPs. I even try and reason with them. I'll suggest I can go DPS if they're a better tank since I play fine with Solder or Reaper, but nope they rather stay the sniper combo and hit nothing.

She's not completely awful on offense if the other team is relying on Bastions, Torbjorns or Reinhardts since the orb can just shit all over anything slow or stationary. I had someone doing that last night and it worked really well. Constantly had a teleport near the payload and her gun made approaching the payload a near death sentence. The only problem was a complete lack of turrets since they were only used to guard the teleporters and didn't see much other use.

Also Lucio's wall ride thing is fucking pointless apart from some gimmick places like the well at Ilios. You find what looks like a nice section of wall to ride across and a piece of fucking window dressing makes you fall off when you touch it.

He can force people to split up, which makes them easier targets and if he´s sneaky with his ult he can get regularly 3-4 kills, because his ult charges incredible fast compared to others. How to fix Torb:

You can upgrade his turret three times. His ultimate instantly heals it and increases its rate of fire and max HP. Level 3 turret has like 500HP.

torbs turret is kind of laughable but his problems are a wide hitbox, low ammo count/long reload on his shotty and non existant mobility.
people say, "you dont play him standing behind his turret, get up there and blast people while its assisting you" and i mostly agree if only because the turret is so shit by itself. you want to be shotty blasting people in the mouth and spamming armor packs, but that kind of aggression on such a short ranged squishy immobile character is absolutely suicidal against most team comps and needs a further distraction to work since torb himself has barely any way of getting the drop on someone. plus it will almost always result in a destroyed turret, forcing you to rebuild it in a sub optimal location and or leaving it at level 1 in that shitty location while you haul ass to the decent spot again. immobility should be considered when designing turret characters, instead of just pretending theyre okay in best case scenarios.

the problem with that is if you make a push and get wiped out getting the turret back on the payload is going to be hell.

From the limited amount of playing I have done, I'd rather have Bastion on my team than Torbjorn because its simply a better turret and seems to have a more efficient ultimate in general.

It also seems to be faster for Bastion to respawn and deploy than for Torbjorn to get back and make his turret fully ready again. Considering how people are saying Bastion is shit that's… pretty terrible.

It was really just shitters. They had no flanking heroes unless you count D.Va as one and at one point at the final point on Hollywood she even placed a teleporter right behind the van and it teleported three people in almost on top of the payload before it got destroyed.

Junkrat and Mei are probably the best defensive heroes regardless of the situation, everyone else is either not as useful in some situations or is way easier to counter.

even just tagging someone with the frost is usually good enough for a competent damage character to "meme on" your target. the problem with mei is how vulnerable she is while doing so. id love to play her, but even just left clicking on slow and frozen enemies is too much for the real live actual babbys it tends to throw me.

I've found that quite often people who really struggle with aiming tend to pick the heroes that heavily rely on the player being good, like McCree or Soldier.
Especially soldier, I've seen more than 3 different soldier players that just stood in a corner somewhere away from their team and tried shooting my guys, when I sneak up on them as Mei there's absolutely nothing they can do, even if they manage to pop the healing field in time.

In-game she has the ability to slow people down. This doesn't seem like much but after a couple of seconds you're completely frozen. On top of that she has an irritating amount of survivability with her ice wall able to put up a barrier, and her cryo freeze making her immune to damage while she heals. it's really annoying trying to deal with a mei if you're alone, or if there's a bigger threat you should prioritize.

Also because of fat fetishists that can't accept that she's pretty thin. there's no "in between" she's just a skinny titty monster.

Some Zen players actually thank me at the end of matches for freezing enemies that they discord orb, it's a great feeling since my freezes kill whatever gets discorded, no alt fire headshots are necessary.

Don't get me wrong it feels great to have this sort of teamwork but it's a testament of how shit the ranking system is if I am placed on the same level as the retards who don't adapt their playstyles to the heroes that are on their team, especially Pharahs and Dvas that waste their ults when a Zarya is on their team.

Mei is getting a buff on her ult most likely so it goes through shields, she may get her main attack to do the same because it made no sense that stuff like Symmetra's and Winston's bypassed shields but hers not, she still can't kill fast enough but I assume she will get her area of denial role a little enhanced.

As long as they leave Zarya alone.

Hopefully not Zarya shield since it is meant to purge people of debuffs and very limited.

Just have payload in the middle and bring it to the enemy base. If you can bring it all the way it explodes, otherwise the team who has it furthest after X minutes wins.

We were talking about this earlier in the thread. What she needs is something that allows her to boost her elevation since it gets very frustrating when you get teammates on buildings who don't approach ledges to make themselves visible when using the dash.

It could be useful if you could still press shift when you see a teammate in such a position and what it does is causes her to fly up to that elevation, allowing you to then press shift again once they are in view.

Her extra ability could be used to take her top off.

So kinda like what I was suggesting. Just making her a faster and more mobile Pharah.

Yes, mostly, it would be kind of confusing if her E became a big jump while Phara's is Shift though, most ability setups in OW have certain consistency, Shift is usually a movement skill while E usually has some kind of utility.

I think the concern might be that if Mercy is able to use her mobility without requiring teammates in her target destination (keeping in mind that part of her role as a healer is that it isn't restricted by any sort of cooldown) it might lead to a healer who's able to make herself very hard to kill by retreating to the sky every time she is cornered.

Pre-Nerf I would say nothing is too much when it comes to fucking her over. Post-Nerf though, eh. Good if you can nab her, the other supports are more important.

For someone like me on Zarya yes, but for McCree, Widowmaker, Genji, Soldier 76 etc. it becomes very easy to shoot an airborne target since there is no place to hide in the sky. As long as she isn't capable of instantly getting to safety and she has to take off from the ground it should be balanced.

Phara has her big jump on SHIFT, Concussion Blast on E and Rocket Barrage on Q as usual, her secondary fire for some reason has the same effect as holding down the jump key.

She is squishy, ADD is her counter, if you distract her teammates (not that hard in certain games) she becomes an easy target, not to mention some Mercy players tend to go to the frontlines instead of having a meat shield up all the time.

So the Mercy would have to be smart about using her flight or get taken out. And if she flies up close enough to a Roadhog…

Incidentally, on the topic of Torbjorn. I'm thinking he could do with some of the many abilities that TF2's Engineer was given over the course of that game's run.

Probably the thing that would help him most is the ability to repair his turret from a distance like the Engineer could with the Rescue Ranger. Turret Hauling could also be useful and incredibly deadly if use in combination with his ultimate.

I don't think the turrets need a straight buff though, I think Blizzard made a smart move making them not be as powerful as the TF2 ones.

Anybody who actually bothers shielding the turret instead of their teammates is basically a won game over as it stands. Torbs turrets have smaller range I believe but their instant-lock on and quick projectiles that don't suffer from damage fall-off make it more annoying than it really is.

I really wish they'd implement the scrap mechanic that was hinted in alpha back and buff the ever loving shit out of his turret / Torb itself just to see the kind of bullshit they can cause.

There are Pharah players in this game who insist on trying to attack through the main game on the first point in Hanamura instead of flying up and taking out the Bastion hidden behind the giant ornamental rock. Bastion is shit - its only because so many people are fucking braindead that he has any value whatsoever.

Usually I just shield up and run straight at you because I just out DPS you as Zarya. Even if you're out of range I can usually lob a few shots onto you with my alternate fire and drop you so low that you have to run away (if not simply kill) since nobody ever heals or helps the Bastion.

I don't think he is shit though, people who play him need to be better and if he should have any changes it should be faster time to turn into a turret or out of a turret. His ult is at least worth using, its a goddamn nightmare to deal with if you're not prepared. Which as I've said I think makes him better than Torbjorn.

I prefer the turret as it is now. I prefer having a disposable distraction that allows me to hit enemies from two angles at once rather than having to babysit a brainless gun. My only problem with him is it's annoying how Toblerone can just shit one out whenever but if we remove his ability to do that, then we'd just be making an already bad character even worse.

i see people saying that attacking at 2 angles thing from time to time but does it even have any basis in reality? its not like you can tell your turret to move in while you have them pinned down. youre either relying on the enemies willingness to walk further into turret range before destroying it as well as terrain features that seem to be very lacking in overwatch where a relatively immobile character like torb could actually get in behind an attacker. which is just asking to get your ass kicked.

Very little I find. The only setup that pops to mind at the moment is the first point of defense on Volskaya. More precisely, setting up the turret on the ramp on the right side of the point that can lead down to the flank route for the attackers while sitting on the left side - poking in and out from behind the small building and machinery - to take potshots at an enemy. But that only works if the choke itself is lost really

i usually only leave the turret to finish off already hurt enemies and to participate in a nearby fight. it's not a good idea to actually go too far away from it since you'll be giving the enemy a bunch of ways of destroying your turret without even knowing where the damage is coming from.

It does for me. I never rely on the turret as a significant source of damage. After the payload moves indoors past the gate in Gibraltar I plant the turret on one side upstairs while I rain rivets overhead from the other side if it's too dangerous to get in the middle of the enemy, or if it's safe to get on top of the enemy then I blast kneecaps with my shotgun.

If the turret gets damaged or destroyed I just consider it an inconvenience. I'll replace it in between enemy pushes or repair it if it's still up and in a particularly good spot.

Lucio has AoE healing, and is great at contesting
Zenyatta can dish out damage, debuff an enemy and heal a single target
Ana has a burst heal/debuff, can make a player immobile, long range heal/damage ect.
And what does mercy have, a fucking revive that's only useful if she does nothing but hide. She can't defend herself and apply her heal/buff at the same time and requires someone to constantly babysit her instead of helping defend/push. TL;DR Blizzard is upset one one is using mercy in comp and thinks nerfing zenyatta will make people pick her again. Watch I guarantee they're gonna nerf his discord to do 35% extra damage instead of the 50% and it won't change jack shit like the torbjorn nerf on console.

Because Mei isn't annoying enough to Rein, she is still unable to kill fast anyway and she can only freeze one at a time for like half a second unless she is using her ult.

You forget Lucio's speedboost. His heals aren't why he's picked in high levels, speed boost negates all defensive characters and forces everything into teamfights so you always get mirrored comps.

All that ability does is seriously fuck her up. You can't use it to escape combat unless one of your teammates is nearby and behind you, in which case you shouldn't escape to begin with or he is a sniper to whom you don't have LOS anyway.
It's mostly used for her to get into the fray in range for her healing beam, where she is in risk of being killed, almost never to escape.

Her Ulti is pretty nice but it requires her to outlast her entire team to be actually usefull, which doesn't ever work because you will always be focused first and you have no escape mechanism unless one of your teammates runs out first or you coordinate with him, but you might end up not helping your team when they needed because of this.

It's an ability that forces your team to learn how to play with you. They gotta remenber to keep LOS with you at all times or get no healing and put you in dangerous situations. This makes no sense, Mercy's result depends entirely on how good the rest of the team is, not how good the Mercy player is.

She has shit damage when compared to seriously dangerous heroes that can fly as well and she can't stay airborn and heal\buff her team anyway. No target for GA just means she can actually stay alive longer and dodge ganks or Ultis that kill her team so she can literally swoop back in and revive them afterwards, instead of being the first person to die and respawn to 5 deaths.

Actually guardian angel is totally fine. It's an ability that requires teamwork, and absolutely shines when you know what you're doing - in pubs just one pharah is good enough to make it useful, and I think having some characters designed entirely for premade teamplay is totally fine too.

She's just shit in general because Zenyatta does so much more than her simultaneously. She does nothing except her ult at the moment.

That's where I disagree. It shines when YOUR TEAM knows what you are doing. Without their cooperation, Guardian Angel is a liability at best.

It cannot be used to retreat from a lost battle, it cannot be used to reach the front line faster unless there's a hero already going in front of you and then your speed is still tied to him. It cannot be used to proper relocate you, only to move closer to someone and assign them the burden of defending you.

Considering that her Ulti requires her to outlast her team, GA does nothing to help here since it still requires a friendly teammate to be alive AND staying in the back. You are literally relying on that stupid Hanzo newbie for a getaway.

Except she's the only one that NEEDS one. This isn't even Mei "I can put your turret\Bastion somewhere sneaky" teamplay, this is "You either help me or I'll die a fucking lot". Compare her to Zenyatta that can properly defend himself, Lucio that has amazing mobility, Symetra that you shouldn't pursue ever anyway or even Ana with her sleep dart for easy escape.
Mercy is the worst support at escaping or surviving when she has an ability devouted entirely to movement, this shit doesn't make any sense.

It's good to get a POTG as Torbjorn that's legit, and gets salt from enemy players. They fought well though.

The counter to Rein stacking is more Reins, Symmetras or Winstons. Bastion is okay for one Rein but with more than one it's just too much shield to try and chew through and if two of them decide to fire strike you simultaneously you're done.

Last match I had 2 Genjis and 1 McCree on my team, I was playing Rein. For 3/4 of the map, I had Gold in Eliminations and Objective Kills. How the fuck does this happen?
We still won with some mad pushes by me because I'm not a fucking coward but in the end, turns out one of the Genjis was on a 15 kill streak.

And that's not what I meant with that line. Cosmetics artificially increase the value of an account. Someone could sell his old one when he gets bored of the game, but he's not gonna sell it half price, not even full price. He's gonna ask for 100$ or even more since "well, I unlocked all these cool cosmetics for you, you gotta pay more".

It's a clever trick companies use to prevent second handed sales. They make those transactions seem like bad deals for the seller unless he asks for enough money that it puts off anyone interested in a cheaper game.

Console copies aren't linked to the accounts though so the cosmetics the original owner had would have no bearing on the resale price.
