Tfw no comfy mmorpg experiences like in my japanese animes

When did all mmos become "race to max level and do one thing for a year then repeat with an update"?

I just want to explore a world with friends ;_;

This isn't porn.
Also you don't get what you want because WoW became the hit it was. "Every MMO needs to be the WoW Killer" was the mentality of the investors and since money makes the world go around, this is where we are now.
Theme park pieces of trash took the place of the ever expanding player-driven world that was supposed to come after SWG and EQ.

Oh, I'm sorry, the five hundred LOL threads we have every week wasn't enough for you? You just had to make a new topic for your shitty manga dumps. Fuck you.

Fuck you leather man.

Playing FFXIV with randos has thought me it isn't the game that makes the comfy but the people you're with.

Sometimes the planets would align and the DF would put a really nice gang together and we'd have a good time. I don't mean like all vets or some shit, but even noobs, we'd just chill through dungeons and have a good time.

Other times you end up in a group that just wants to mechanically run through a things to efficiently extract the reward at the end and get pissy or quit if you don't have an optimal rotation, and that's less fun (for me).

I started running into people who did that towards the end of ARR, and it started being a problem (for me) in HW.

I played FF14 ARR to stalk a girl I had a crush on, because I never had the guts to talk to at the party's I saw her at.

I thought it was a good idea because of OP's comic, I had lost weight at that time and was successful with women, but they were normalfags.

When I leveled up, got into their mumble server and hit it off with the rest of the free company, I found out she was now an alcoholic with a cavalcade of beta orbiters.

I just want my vidya game waifu.

wot mango is that?

WoW was what he wanted for a good long while, then daily quests came in late BC and it all just kind of went downhill from there into the treadmill timegate piece of shit it is now.

What I don't understand is why the Ragnarok model never took off. Servers were fucking packed when it was a sub model MMO and the game didn't start dying till they tried the usual korean overpowered F2P shit and completely reworked the game to be like WoW and split into like 6 different even less stable servers. Gravity fucking tanked hard at that point, you never even hear about them and just a handful of years ago I wouldn't have been surprised to see them become the next big name MMO publisher. I guess the gooks just can't help themselves.

Love is hard for Otaku. It is cute and nice.

/fit/guy she wasnt worth it

When Everquest devs wouldn't stop sucking off the top raiding guilds, until the entire genre revolved around pandering endgame.

When I went to rehab and dropped WOW for good, it felt like I had disappeared from gaming life for a decade and resurfaced in the future, with completely new genres and consoles and imageboards. Up to this day I can't fathom what kept me chained to that shithole.

You could always play one of the more grind-heavy games, like Runescape or Wurm; don't see the Wurm general, though, so it might be dead. You could also play a grind forever game, like Tree of Savior or maybe even Ragnarok Online.

or you know be a not-faggot and play some arena shooters

FMS shitter spotted

I actually had a really nice connection with another player in XIV Heavensward right after finishing the story.

We talked and waited for the sky to clear, talking about our previous MMO experiences.

I wish XIV had more to it. It has atmosphere, story, music, raid boss mechanics, equipment design, and class design pretty downpat but it does absolutely nothing with it thanks to the PS3 limitations. Zones are tiny and cramped despite looking absolutely gorgeous, endgame boils down to grinding nothing but tokens, quest design is samey across the board(though the writing is superb for an MMO). Its got the depth of a puddle on a sunny day and its only getting more shallow with each patch. Absolutely nothing exists there to make you want to interact with another player, you only get the incredibly rare gem like you experienced once in a blue moon and even other second you're logged in might as well be a singleplayer experience. That was how it was for me anyway, even with an "active" free company.

Understandable. I still play it because it scratches that itch I have, but there's always a lull I fall into between patches where I don't play for weeks at a time.

glamours are my crack tho

Its funny how they announced PS3 support ends in this expansions last 3 patches and 4.0 is bringing with it a 'massive inventory increase'.

I would bet dosh money you're the same guy who played ARR as the Paladin specifically to be that Asian girl's white knight in game.

I think it is.

I guess you could say Paladin really is a white knight after all.

This.

Communities are a big factor in MMOs.

There should be a "par" system to stop people from rushing/grinding through shit. Like they get parties of mixed noobs and vets and disable running, average the times and make that a "par time". The closest you are to that clear time for a dungeon the higher the reward, like, doing it in half the time should yield LESS than half the reward, so that you don't want to grind it multiple times in the same time window.

I remember the few first months Archeage to be pretty comfy.

...

Atlantica Online has some of the best communities

People who want to autism speed run MMO dungeons should play a proper single player speedrunning game. Preferably one that doesn't involve other fucking people since other people playing "at the pace they want" as you have stated seem to trigger these individuals. Its counter-intuitive to both the player in question and the genre as a whole.

...

...

I could just as easily say that people who want a slow casual paced dungeon crawler should play rune factory, the easiest solution to your problem would probably be finding a guild or group to do dungeons with instead of wanting everyone to be equal

Tera's Holla Forums guild managed to evade the erp, kind of died because people didn't want to keep playing.

No you couldn't>>10396821
The esiest solution would be for the people who want to SPEEDRUN finding a group of likeminded individuals, since LFD will always match you with randos who almost certainly are not going to, at least in part, conform to your expectations. Thats a product of playing an MMORPG in general though and one of the main draws of it, which confuses me as to why someone who wants and expects top-level precision speed play would bother with when it requires you to have anywhere from 3-39 other players expecting the same. You don't even get to really indulge in the rewards of your autism by having newbies wow over your awesome glowing weapon or something, and once past that initial dopamine of rush of completion itself which has undoubtedly dulled over the years, most just jump to the next grind and speed through it as quickly as possible and then complain until next patch day that there is no content. Its a bad cycle.

I did say average times of mixed parties, not longest times of noob parties. And the game should still acknowledge fast times, but not tie the reward to it, like have leaderboards for prestige and shit. Or reward fast times only for fixed party/guild/fc runs. If people want to sperg out and run through shit, they should be able to do it amongst themselves.

Likewise, taking longer should reduce the reward, and it's fairly easy to detect player activity, 20 minutes of idle animation with no
controller input, keystroke or chat activity? nope.

Heaven forbid some players do better than others, you communist.

Punishing players for doing better than others is dragging them to the level of the mediocre. Even if it's just dragging them to the level of average, why should they be dragged down at all? There's no good reason for good players being punished for being good. It kills all progression and desire to improve.

No, there's only one fix for MMO's and that's building a massive world without fucking portals and sky based travel to get between point A and B.

Can somebody explain to a former schizophrenic why you'd want to play an MMO?
I deeply hate the idea of playing video games with other people.

Bud do you really think we all exist? you are just typing into a word document right now.

Holy jpeg compression

Its nice sharing experiences with others and forming friendships while you play a game together and talk about the game, your plans, experiences, hopes, etc. It gives people a hobby to play together with others and common ground to relate to and grow closer through.

Shh

I usually don't end up interacting with other people when I play mmorpgs but I like the thought that if I wanted to I could.

The shit that happens in these anime and manga are ridiculously advanced even if it shows the game being simple or an old RO clone. The only time it makes sense is .hack// and that is because their VR is so fucking crazy immersive they can literally make you comatose.

>Holla Forums makes a pre-Big Bang Maplestory guild to shit around in

Believe me I wouldn't even be surprised.
The treatment I underwent was easily the worst experience of my life.

CELLAR DOOR

FIRE POKER

14012899327

That's because the game became garbage.
It wasn't great to begin with and then they decided to make every class into dps.
Except priests who I think they actively want people not to play.

Don't listen to him, I'm definitely real. You can trust me.

Fuck off, gook

Trying to start guilds with Holla Forums or with onrpg or mmorpg or [insert forum here] communities pretty much ends up the same way. A bunch of people get together to play the game and after about a week or something most people never log back in ever again and the guild just slowly becomes a ghost town until me and some other guy (or gril) are the only ones left playing.

So far the game with the most comfy community I've ever played has to be Mabinogi and that's because they have a really nice forum mabination.com/forum.php Of course I haven't played in forever so I have no idea if they're still any good but the original Mabinogi is a comfy game all around. Too bad Mabinogi Heroes is trash like RO2.

But yes. MMORPGs are pretty much all about community and the state of modern mmo communities was ruined by EQ and WoWkids. They don't care about comfy or fun it's just the same old min-max cancer.

Same here on the 2D Korean grindfest front, I mostly remain in the guild to deflect the fucking storm of Chinese and barely-legible EUs trying to get me into their guilds.

How do you feel about Black Desert obfuscating stats with the intention of preventing min-max behavior?

what manga?

Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii

thanks user, you make my heart go doki doki

My last good experience with MMOs was in the Wizardry Online beta. Found a good party, everyone was the same level and we moved through the first few dungeons together. Thanks to the nature of the game, it's practically impossible to solo the game and all the dungeons had traps and puzzles that forced you to work together as group.

It really was fun, but then some guys over-leveled and the game's retarded crime system fucked my character over. Lots of good ideas in the game though.

Shits dead bro, shut down a little while back even in nippon.

Is gook the next weeaboo? Are people going to get paranoid about everyone else being Korean?

gook just feels good to say. especially if you say it with an italian accent. it's just a pleasing, yet visceral sound. like nigger, for example.

The day when faggots started to use wikis and having secrets in yout games to discover yourself became impossible. It's sad.
I wonder why the EVE model hasn't taken off. It may require a really stable server and a good economy balanceing team, but why the fuck did noone but CCP atleast try it?

money

You just want to pretend you're a girl and get fucked in the butt

you only got yourself to blame

I could've sworn I saw this thread with the exact same OP some some time ago, except that he only posted one image.

No i prefer dps.

...

Meeting whores over the Internet is a great means of getting forced into fatherhood when they lie about being on birth control.

Let me say it again: weeb girls, MMO whores and the like are not mentally stable. Chasing after them is a horrible idea. They aren't fun nor are they enjoyable to be around.
At least normalfag girls have common fucking sense.

terrifying,

Anything non-p2w mmorpg's worth playing now? Something I liked:

Maple Story
Dekaron
FF: XIV

it should have classes (can be switchable) and stat points you can use at levelup.

...

Every fucking time…

I know it's not free-to-play but I've been having some comfy times exploring in Black Desert. Tamer and Sorceress have been pretty nice, and as soon as I get enough points I'm going to try to get a house and crank out potions.

Nigga, is you serious?

Not in current year, user.

As for girls I've met through MMOs. I married one and she's great. She has social anxiety and is suicidal but that means she stays home all day plus she never asks or uses any of my money and all I ask from her is to be a cute house waifu.

It ultimately depends on what you want in the end. Normalfag girls are just unbearable to me because all they can do is parrot shit from the electric jew without a single critical thought. I don't want to hear shit for the thousandth time about x thing you saw on the episode of faggotelevision.

Seems fitting.

Why isn't there a good WW2 MMO, anons? How would you go about making one?

This has gotta be bait. Have you ever actually met a woman before?

that applies* to nordic countries, many women run small scale business.

*excluding

immigrants*

Do you want your sons to have autism? There's a reason why they say 28 is the wall. Past that the woman rapidly loses her worth as a mother and wife unless you already have kids and a family with her.

Gorgon project's guild is dormant because the game is being made at a snail's pace

That would explain all the autistic children we're getting this generation. Worst part is how feminism is trying to force the ideal age to get married/kids.

Yeah, its a shame how fucked things are getting. Doesn't help with all the transgender and sjw shit making it even worse.

Until last month i was thinking it doesn't happen here, only in US or other fucked up places. "Hello, you're small cousin just changed his gender to woman."

small cousin being one step "further" from cousin whatever it is in English

but muh brain development doesn't stop until 25 so thats obviously what the age of consent should be, stop exploiting poor innocent womyn!

...

...

Invaders

Second cousin

Must Die

Pick one and only one, you're creating your own problem.

No matter how big the MMO is, you'll run out of exploring to do very quickly, especially if you're an obsessed autist who cannot sit still for 3 seconds when there's levelups to gain and daily quests to grind.

There's literally no formula that will satisfy classic WoW neckbeards, because what you want was not within the game, but within yourself. You want WoW, but you want to experience it through the eyes of someone who has never experienced an MMO before. But since you have, you'll never get what you want no matter how good the game is.

Unless you're looking for a new sandbox MMO experience, it's better if you quit entering MMO discussions for the rest of time and stop perpetuating the themepark cancer that's been plaguing the genre for decades.

Archeage was great in RU beta.

Wizardry Online was actually really fucking good, so many great ideas going on. I was sad to hear that it shut down.

Is Blizzard dumbing down and simplifying WoW combat in a bid to open it up to console market in order to stay above water?

Same guy, thinking of playing again though, mainly due to never finishing heavenward.

Paladin was fun as fuck, though I thought Warrior was a better Tank.

I miss playing Project Gorgon, the death system was just so much fun

It's a shame the game is kind of dead, because it's "Everything is a skill" gimmick was pretty nifty

Yea I remember that then it turned into a thread about a different manga with a similar premise.

Another weeb meets harsh reality. You'd be wise to know that Jap devs are as bad if not worse than western devs.

Where do I get one of those? All the girls here are all normalfags and casuals.

There's very little worse than western devs in the [CURRENT YEAR]

...

...

Not even Sega's internal rivalry bullshit that killed two consoles is as bad as fucking EA that killed literally thousands of amazing games. There isn't a single thing in the entire goddamn universe that is actively trying to kill video games as much as EA is.

...

Where did I mention EA or Bioware you fucking spergs.

...

Go away Todd.

Then make some real friends and go outside.

so many of these animes just have a single massive tower dungeon/tower and a large town at the base that serves as a hub for adventures. And the difficulty of the monsters/rarity of the loot increases the higher/lower you go-has this concept been used to make an actual mmo yet?

Ironically, it seems there used to be a Tower of Druaga MMO in Japan at some point, according to wikipedia.

However, the website doesn't exist anymore, so it probably died.

Shit I actually really like wizardry online, it hurt when they shut it down.

That doesn't explicitly mention Bioware at all. I was implying that you believing Nip devs aren't as bad is fucking retarded.

Fuck off shitposter.

Are there any MMO's or similar games that have action-based real-time gameplay like TERA that don't suck ass?

I've been playing FFXIV and I think I'm too autistic for hotbar-based shit.

Not really, the "doesn't suck ass" excludes most MMOs.

story time

How about instanced coop online rpgs? Though only ones I know of on PC are Vindictus(P2W), Warframe(P2W), and PSO2(never ever, at least officially)

The main experience that I want is something like Destiny's raids. I loved the idea of going through a complex dungeon with fucking weird mechanics with a big group of people.

FF14 apparently has something like that but I don't know because I haven't gotten far enough but I really can't get used to this hotbar combat.

Nip devs aren't as bad as western devs because western devs include EA. Again, there isn't a single thing in the entire goddamn universe that has been actively trying to kill video games for as long as EA has. If you haven't had at least one of your favorite series of games hunted down and brutally raped/murdered by EA then you don't know shit about video games.

Dungeon Fighter Online I guess. It's a side scrolling brawler MMO. You can hotbar abilities, but every ability has a button input like a fighting game.

Not really, there's some stuff that kind of meets your requirements but there's just a lot of just either pay 2 win or complete shit mess of a game.

MMOs are really struggling right now to not be awful.

Reminder that EA is the worst fucking thing in existance, and that you faggots are jumping through some insane mental loops to call me a Bioware fanboy. Post quality is rock fucking bottom. Summer can't end soon enough.

I'll check it out, though it doesn't seem to have as much variety in mechanics as I was hoping for

Well, fuck, I guess I can keep going in FF14 and not suck ass enough to be good enough in raids.

When the fuck did anyone call you a bioware fanboy?

Are you kidding?

FFXIV isn't worth the sub fee. Also I hope you like sitting to do old pre-expansion max level content. You need to belt out most of it to get to the expansion content.

Nigger you are legit illiterate

PSO2 is fairly solid. It has a shitton of content now, but due to the way the game is set up, most of it is obsolete. It doesn't have any long, complex dungeons because it's such an insanely casual game. I don't know what happened to Japan in the last decade or so, but the country whose gamers used to be represented by those autists who could solo raid content is now so casual that they demand anything with the slightest hint of challenge be nerfed. The result is that dungeons take 5-10 minutes tops, and they vary in difficulty from cake walk to steamroll. The combat is fun as fuck, though. It blows Tera away easily.

Are you sure you aren't projecting? Being accused of defending Bioware's bullshit is synonymous with being called a fanboy.
Your whole argument is also retarded. The Japs are just as bad in GENERAL as the western industry. EA is the worst company in the industry period, but this is irrelevant.

I hadn't pulled back my foreskin once until the age of 16-17
One day at home I was bored and decided to fuck a bagel, I tried running it under a tap lightly to get the right moisture
However it feel apart after I began fucking it, small and soggy crumbs of the bagel went on the head of my penis
I was cleaning my penis when I pulled my skin back further than usual, I saw things cropping out underneath the head, it looked like old and crusty bread
I began to pick at it, however it was stuck to my penis. While pulling my foreskin back I would slowly tear this substance from my skin
Then my foreskin went all the way back, and behold… 17 years worth of crusted smegma sat underneath the head of my penis

I might go play that game again. I miss those guys.

what game, user?

Archeage

...

Since we're on the topic, just what ARE the most popular MMOs in Japan anyway? I hear MMOs aren't big there despite the fact that there's a bunch of popular fiction based on MMOs.

Do you know Black Desert is dead since they implemented the Pay 2 Win features?

They broke their promises and Holla Forums was once again right.

I just wanted to play as a Giant merchant dressed like a faggot and camping in the wilderness while selling my wares to travellers.

P2P is dying anyway. Even buying "full" games for consoles these days results in all these jewish micro transactions.

Is this copypasta I'm not aware of?

FF14 would probably have to be one of them, at least.

As for the others, I'm not sure. Maybe PSO2? It did get an anime, after all.

Those MMO's exist, user. Problem is they're very old and almost all of them don't have a playable community anymore, assuming you can still play them at all. Vanilla WoW, Guild Wars, FFXI, Planetside, pre big bang Maple Story, pre renewal Ragnarok Online.

We'll never get a new MMO with a spirit like the old ones as long as "theme park cancer" is the preferred model over "player driven world". FF14 came close to this but is now succumbing to the corner cutting that is "only end game and instances matter."

Just get a bunch of Holla Forumsirgins together and explore an old virtual chatroom.

why do bad things happen to nice video games?

I'm getting worlds.com flashbacks. Please don't do this to me.

I quit because of the huge level gap between everyone and running lancer wasn't fun when healers were trying to be the DPS.

>when healers were trying to be the DPS.
To be fair, if you're not playing with retards then you barely even need a healer.

The end of TERA was the brawler patch. That was the indicator that the game was beyond shit and was never going to return to not shit.

Also seriously I can't stop laughing at this priest thing.

Holy shit that place was insane, I remember exploring it with…. /x/? I think it was back on half chan like 5 years ago or something.

The blair witch maps still scare me for some odd reason

Like what? I haven't seem much, but I've been basically traveling around cooking and making potions.
