Small parties should never run for the presidency. This is why trump ran republican and Bernie ran democrat. Spring off off the main parties was known to be a stupid idea. Following this, if a real national socialist party became active in this country, the main goal for said party with regards to offices sought should be at the local level. Distinguishing between "democratic socialists" and communists is of little value. A socialist is just someone who wants to implement communism but knows that it's not palatable, so uses a different term to con the people into handing the state enough power for the state to seize total control and implement communism.
