I didn't think a cash shop whale supported mmo could die off faster than WoW but somehow arenanet figured out the recipe.

the game is shit, of course it would die faster than WoW

GW2 wishes it was dying the same way wow was.

Instead its going full Wildstar.
and both caved to SJW's and hired SJW's for 'diversity' rather than technical prowess.

Imagine that.

Pick two

Wow is able to live because it relies on millions of coke addict-tier players who are unable to throw away years of their work.

you still need to buy the expansion in gw2

I stopper playing when the expansion came out. I refused to financially support the SJW devs.

Where is the porn of the female devs? I remember people making breddy gud porn of the female devs.

da fuck are you talking about.?

Did you dream this?

Refusing to pay for a product on ideological basis is as fucking stupid as hiring developers on ideological basis.

If the ideology stays out of the product, absolutely. A dev that can keep their beliefs out of their product is worthy of at least some respect regardless of what they actually think, especially if the game is good.
GW2 has been fully corrupted by it, and its quality has suffered because of it.

The only noticeable SJW thing that bothers me is the 1:1 ratio of men and women in the armies of the world. The shitty lesbian characters are just shitty characters. And the biggest issue with the game is the writing. It's seriously fucking bad and I even as an amateur story-theorist could've rewritten what they had ten times better in an afternoon.

if the game is fun i wont care how much agenda pushing the game gets.

Friendly reminder the only way The MMO genre could be saved if they From Software makes a Dark souls MMO which is packed with lore

Considering how shit DaS3 and Bloodborne were… nah.

...

we exaggerate a lot on this board but in all genuine honesty i was legitimately shocked by how gw2 did fucking everything wrong

if there was any one developer who could figure out the magical recipe for perfect failure it'd be these guys

Maybe if it was done like classic runescape with wilderness to play on without the absolutely Korea-tier grind and ugly as fuck graphs.

Or better yet, when the developers HAD the magical recipe for a great game (GW1) but decided to throw it all away to appeal to the WoW audience (GW2)

Aside from repetitive content, that "expansion" also killed a huge chunk of player base. Full price for not much content and new accounts get base game too. It's like they wanted to lose loyalty. The accumulation of everything done wrong would make GW2 a good case study for learning how to maintain a MMO.

It really doesn't surprise me after how much they fucked up the expansion.

Fuck even legion was better.

how did they fuck up so hard from the first game

but they wanted to destroy the holy trinity and do something new!

...

Gee that's a great idea Bob!

I really wish mmo-devs would throw the whole 'balance' thing in the trash for most parts atleast and make actually unique and fun classes to play.

Too bad with modern mmo-playerbase most people would just play that one class that's the absolute best due to some minmaxer saying so which ends making the game not fun after all. and then they'l cry a bloody river once the devs nerf it just a tiiiny bit to make other classes more viable

The combat is laggy shit with 2 people per session, they wouldn't be able to pull it off on a larger scale.

It won't, look at warlords or whatever the fuck the last one was called, sure the numbers went up, for once, but then they lost more then they gained, when a new expansion pack comes out either a they stop losing subs for a month or it spikes but then it goes right back into a nose dive.

Before blizzard stopped reporting player numbers they had less players then vanilla did at it's peak.

Okay so it's not THAT bad.

If you have 1000 people the first month, you lose 10%, that's 100 gone. But the second month, you only have 900 people, which means you only lost 90 players the second month. So really, it's fine because it's losing fewer players as time goes on.

Devs deserve to burn in reddit for what they did to a GW1 successor.
why even live

...

...

They talk about its "lore" because gameplay is pure shit.

...

Does anyone remember FireFall?

Firefall was doing MMOs right until it fucked up with the complete launch. But the beta was amazing.

The big thing was that it had a strong world, of course, lore was strong in that game. But the bigger thing was player-driven changes in the game. The idea of releasing a big patch with new land and objectives needing to be unlocked by the players doing shit. The Melding, which cut off areas, being able to invade the actual map and make parts of it useless for a time until you rescued it. Active enemy invasions, but the actual enemy race only showing up during the invasions. The leveling system being gear/suit based, with each player being able to do any class with training. Making each player feel like their actions matter. And actual shooting mechanics instead of RNG.

Then they went and fucked it up for linear level progression, bland area unlocks, fucking up the lore by ignoring it, and having servers that can't handle shit.

Except Firefall was always P2W.

Yeah that was a bit bullshit, but I didn't care too much because it wasn't PVP. Paying for better guns to shoot against other players, that's bullshit. Paying for better guns to shoot against AI? It's stupid, but it doesn't hurt other players.

Yeah maybe if A-net added a dungeon every now or then people wouldnt leave.

Blizzard doesn't care, they make bank from selling the expansions themselves and the morons paying for the tokens.

WoD lost a ton of subs because it was an awful expansion nobody liked, and that got even worse when Blizzard decided to release barely any new content for it.

All Blizzard has to do is make something better than what people are calling the worst expansion ever, and release some actual content for it after release. Not exactly difficult a task.

The only good piece of writing in GW2 was the Char cub talking shit about Logan when they all meet in the middle of Lion's Arch.

8 skills out of a pool of over 1000 skills. Most of which weren't "Fireball" and "Green Fireball".

Nah, they thought adding content most players would miss out on and never be able to play again was a winning strategy. For over 2 years straight.

To the surprise of nobody at all.

It's as much ArenaNet's fault as it is NCSoft's; NCSoft apparently had such an issue with Cantha that they'd rather turn the Kaineng district in the Reach into a gaping pothole, and then there was the whole "hamstring the FUCK out of GW2 to fund Wildstar" shit. The SJW were, of course, another issue, but these are problems on a high executive level that caused the effective death of one MMO and the slow death via user bleeding of another.

NCSoft needs to get the fuck out of the business already.

Didn't the devs also outright give up on regular dungeons and settled on Fractals as their dungeon knock off?

Of course I'm also sure they would rather just be paid for another page of Kasmeer/Marjory fanfiction.

They also thought dumbing down their gameplay for new players, removing the necessities of having defensive or supportive builds, "hurr durr holy trinity is useless :^)", and generally burning the fuck out of GW1's playerbase was all a good idea.

you act like gw2 did not make a shit ton of money they just don't know what to do with the money.

same shit is happening with ffxiv this expac has been kinda of eh but rumors say their funneling money from that game to fun the next ff15 and such

Here's the thing with dungeons: the team who was responsible for making the GW2 dungeons was so abysmally terrible that they all got fired. The reason? They couldn't fix anything. When another dev (or maybe it was some higher up at anet, can't quite remember) went and looked into, he saw that everything in the dungeons was so poorly implemented from a coding/design standpoint that, in order to "fix" dungeons, anet would've been better off deleting them and making them over again from scratch.

Source: ex-core tester who's kept in touch with other core testers who remained as core testers for years.

Oh I know they don't know what to do with the money. Because that money could have gone to better devs, more stable servers, or even just storing the money for a rainy day.

…welp.

...

From what I've seen, FF14 brings back users and then-some monthly per patch, and their recent free month was actually for celebrating a sub milestone.

So it's actually pretty funny, all things considered that FF14 loses and regains more users per month than GW 2.

It's even more hilarious that WOW is in free fall at the moment.

I suppose you missed the latest reports saying that Legion preorders are in the same league with WoD preorders(12mil people came back to play that shitheap)?

Good. They deserve worse for breaking their "Manifesto".

source?

People always come back around the release of each expac – usually in the same numbers.

Are you denying this simple logic?

If you want to look at the next death, look at Black Desert Online. Those playing it are still trying to convince themselves the cash shop is Pay for Convenience.

The artist is Sparrow. You can find him on rule 34 xxx

Fun fact: SJWs have better track record at making games than alt-righters.

Sjwars 2 shoving shit politicial agendas left and right trhoughout the game at the expense of a decent lore and player immersion. Good riddance.

This makes about as much sense as a King's Quest MMO.

What does that have to do with shitty sjw devs?

Where's the source?

Considering both degrees and money are practically thrown at them, I wouldn't disagree.

And for all intents and purposes, they're better at networking, because the people you network with are also massive leftists faggots.

...

According to Holla Forums every second game published is leftist SJW faggotry. Some of those are at least decent. Now, mention a game that panders to fascists (communists with edge) that isn't complete shit. I can't think of any, however, Oddworld games are pretty good, and Undertale has provably pretty good sense of style.

Just because people expect you to behave in public and have some general sense of social compitability doesn't make them leftists or faggots.

You doubt the meme magic, user

Holla Forums isn't one person. Some people jump the gun and like to call games SJW trash when only one person of an entire team has shit opinions.
…What?

Also

Can you not jewgle? There was even a thread about Blizzard's Q2 2016 earnings call on this board less than a week ago.

12 million people paying for Legion and playing for 1 month minimum doesn't sound like free fall to me.

Mark pls go and stay go.

12 million x 40 dollar expansion
12 million x 15 dollars for 1 month of gametime at minimum

480,000,000 + 180,000,000 = six hundred and fucking sixty million dollars

I'm glad to see this piece of shit dying like the trash that it is. The only possible bad thing that could happen is the original Guild Wars servers closing down, but I wouldn't be surprised if those are at least still more profitable than this shit-fest.

It's 50 dollars now, because Blizzard wants you to believe that a character boost you don't want is worth the extra ten.
780mil, not including repeat buys for digital preorder/physical, collectors editions, WoW token fees(add an additional 5 dollars for every person playing with gold), ect.

Even if Blizzard only retains sub-six million like in WoD, does it matter to them? They're recouping it with boxes, mounts, pets, character services, and they're still king of the shit of the shit hill. I think people underestimate just how insanely profitable WoW is regardless. The infinitely less popular FFXI was Square Enix's number one earner for years and kept the company afloat during the Spirits Within days, and people want to call WoW the failure for having under six million people?

Feels weird, bros.

Just roll a toon on a roleplay server. If you're looking for communities, they've got thriving ones usually, and you can settle down into a guild pretty easy. A lot of people say WoW is dedgame with no people that talk, but roleplay servers are full of them, even if you don't want to roleplay.

If you do, well, at least you'll get to pretend you're a girl and suck some dick.

I'll be playing with people from work.

And I'm not new to the game, user. I've played it since Open Beta.

That's misinformation, who are you? Towelliee?

They said Legion Pre-Order numbers are (((Tracking))) with what WOD had at this point before the release. Which could mean anything and is just bullshit fluff to avoid real answers for their retarded investors.

Here's the exact quote;

In the end people don't play MMO's to "get skilled" or "Win the game"

MMO's intrinsically have a low skillcap, but usually theres a lot of stuff you need to know and people you need to know to get to endgame stuff.

But who gives a fuck anyway, since they'll replace that endgame for another endgame. It's about growing a characters power and gaining access to shit you didn't have before like an Action RPG.

You showed me and those investors. Those retarded investors, do they really think Activision Blizzard is making money with dried up flops like WoW, Hearthstone, and Overwatch?

He just wants WoW to implode because he wants to play BC on a private server forever.

Why would you want to? It seems like the most autistic thing in the world to me. Unless you enjoy only the company of other autists I spose.

I remember when everyone on Holla Forums was hyped for it. It died as soon as the game got released.

Given how shitty western games have been as of late in terms of writing and gameplay this quite believable.

There's also the fact that the liberal arts and tech lean left. It's institutionalized.

The biggest crime in my eyes is City of Heroes dying to make room for this.

I want this meme to die

THE ONLY REASON DARK SOULS HAS 'GOOD' LORE IS BECAUSE THEY'RE VAGUE AS FUCK ABOUT IT

God forbid it becomes their primary focus, it'd go to shit faster than you can believe.

How is Wildstar even doing better than SJW Wars 2?! The game is still shite, and you have to put your ip to even get a shitty free account (fuck that).

Wild Star is still garbage that proved why old mmo game mechanics needed to be removed or updated

It at least adhered to the holy trinity.

Those preorders mean shit once people will drop their subs. Remember that they were giving away accounts as a movie promo because the game has been taking a beating since WoD came out. WoD damn near killed it, and Legion might seal the deal if it bombs.

Even raiders like Fat Boss are very skeptical with Legion.

Remember when Vanguard went real old school; and died because no one out of a few autists liked that shit?

I can't feel good about this, I'm just sad to see the genre in the horrible state it's in.

>>>/reddit/

Is there actual roleplaying or is it all just ERP with the seven dicked "female" worgan with basketball sized balls?

Not entirely

There's a reason people loved Dark Souls vague lore and HATED Dark Souls 2 lore

DS1 was a story with pages ripped out
DS2 was written to be vague and meaningless

To be fair I was counting the newer iterations of the game, dark souls 2 and dark souls 3 are what the majority of people have played.

That's right, most people into the series probably haven't played the first one.

Gee, I wonder why their sales fell. What a mystery! At least this might mean that the end of S3 and the next expansion won't be too far off.

Liberal arts lean left because it's a field of mostly idealistic juveniles who think they have a totally unique message of peace that can heal the world. The reason why high end traditional arts attract liberals as well is that the field is surviving basically on being quirky. It offers something that cannot be done by big industries. It's perfectly rational and acceptable. They hate nazi-wankers and commies because they have this retarded idea that the arts sector should shoot itself in the leg by doing responding to the needs of a society that died a century ago.

Tech is some of the most genuinely right-wing fields in West at the moment. If a techie hates nazis that's due to the fact that they are smart enough to recognize that all authoritarians are radical leftists deep in their hearts.

There's a bunch of things that could've been done with the writing, some of the characters and settings have some potential, but they almost always manage to deliver in the most bland manner possible.

Like Revenant Rytlock, who is a big deal in the story, but they take zero effort resolutions to present his character. The overall world also has that tone of writing that has never really understood the themes properly.

I honestly believe that there should be a god damned permit for writing different genres of fiction. For scifi you'd have to pass an exam on psycology and general sciences/tech, and for fantasy you'd have to pass an exam on history and anthropology/mythology studies.

I can agree with this, though as much as I like Dark Souls lore, I really liked how straight forward Demons Souls was more

I just want gudfites with my lads.

DaS1 had lore, DaS2 and themes and symbolism, DaS3 had fucking nothing.

I don't know why they don't do seasons or tournaments like they seem so adamant with sPvP. I know people still want those mist weapons and getting tickets for at least those would get people into it

This exists still under the guise of moral imperatives progressives preached by progressive media. Unfortunately they succeed at getting devs to shoe into their games for the worse. It's just one dogma exchanged for another and the hammer they use to nail it in is the social media rather than the government.

This applies to people who are looking for work too. If you want to make connections you have to be either left-leaning or keep your politics to yourself.

They're left leaning when it comes to PR at least. Many of the louder people in tech are progressives.

Being liberal doesn't equal to being leftist, being progressive doesn't equal to humanism. Fascists are some of the worst moralfags on the planet.

Have you ever really thought about what all these words you use actually mean? Do you think the world is controlled by left because you can't talk publicly about how you'd love to hang niggers, jews, faggots and everything else that happens to piss you off that day, literally or figuratively speaking?

Are you talking about the T&A bitching? I always thought it was funny people refer to that a lot, but they turned around and added body types that had even bigger T&A

...

Counter point-dongle gate

Talking about dongles is not very fascist I think. Still got a guy fired.

I have no idea what you're talking about but to reply to that guy through your post, the point is injected retarded hamfisted agenda where it doesn't fucking belong. I just want to play video games not have some retarded line in the story out of the blue about some shit regarding trannies or dats racist in a game where it makes no sense to make those statements whatsoever.

Right right, but I said left-leaning. Progressives are far left and right now they control the discourse in the liberal arts and even tech. Progressives will be tolerant to left leaning people until they speak out of line. Right leaning people have no such luxury as far as the arts are concerned.

SJWs kill another game. When will they learn?

Where there's story, it's pretty hard to avoid taking some sort of moral stand. Especially when there are people who tend to actively seek political meanings to get offended about. If you are reasonable individual, you are not really bothered by the agenda-part but about it being "hamfisted". Hamfisting comes from poor sense of style, structure and sense of reality, the incompetence of the storyteller, not that they happen to believe in X political ideals in itself.

Really? It's not like the whole dongle gate thing was some insider issue. Some men were making dick jokes about dongles and some feminist got offended. She took a picture of them without their consent, posted it on twitter, and got them fired. This shit managed to reach mainstream media at the time, where people were trying to make her out to be some victim attacked by oh so scary MRAs.

When people are talking about the world being controlled by the left, they're not whining they can't run around telling the world to gas the kikes.

Its not about that. Its like an addiction. Wow back in the day for many of us was our first mmo. We started in vanilla or legion, met people, levelled with them over a month, joined their guild, made friendships with people and shared experiences together. All the times pvping together, cheering when you win, raging or getting depressed when you got in a losing streak. Raiding together, sacrificing hours of sleep to play something and try to achieve something that was difficult for you to do, with people who became your friends over the months you experienced all these things together.

Maybe its different for other people, but for me, when I played on the vanilla server it was to try and recapture that happy feeling that died so long ago, and maybe feel like I'm a bit closer to some of the friends I've drifted apart from who I used to experience so much with during the days when I played wow.

Pretty much. Contrary to what the media would have you believe edgelords from places like Holla Forums and stormfront. The religious right growing in influence is a relatively recent phenomena too. I believe they got influential in the 70s. The KKK was originally democratic now they're kind of split. Region, surprisingly, is split between both left and right with Blue (left leaning) Christians being some of the most wealthy people. I could go on.

Just to add to this the original Alt-Right were people who considered themselves neither Tradcons or Neocons (commies in disguise). But now they've been successfully framed as and co-opted by edgelords. Oh well.

I can't believe we lost City of Heroes for this shit.

I really miss vanilla WoW, the original GW and Lineage II with all its shards. And it wasn't even the golden period of MMOs, just imagine someone in 5-10 years will say something like "I really miss legion WoW and GW2 with the trans DLC".

If hiring on an ideological basis is stupid, then refusing to pay on that basis must be smart. You are recognizing the stupidity of their hiring practices and refusing to support them, thereby helping the industry to smarten up.

The best they could do is abandon gw2 and return to gw1, make another expansion or something

No it isn't. It was ridiculously strong in the early 20th century and defined all aspects of life. Look at everything they shut down back in that era simply due to be contrary to "Christian values". Books, radio, language, pornography, and the most infamous one being alcohol which prohibition was strongly caused by Christian women.

The people called the "alt-right" now don't even want the label if you look at Holla Forums.

Stop spreading disinfo and leave.

Archive please.

It's stupid because production methods are not necessarily the product.

The most flamboyant faggot or the biggest racist in the world could as well be the world's best chef, and if you refuse to eat good food because you don't like gays or racist makes you a fucking retard.

I will cry tears of happiness the day GW2 shuts down.

There's no reason for happiness, it won't bring GW1 back.

You said it like GW2 is some unrelease product that no one know it's shit or not, I refuse pay because i know the devs is shit AND the product is shit.

I wouldn't call it shit, though. It's okay timewaster for an MMO compared to WoW and Tera.

Would you try explaining in detail what made GW1 better? Haven't played it, and I'm genuinely curious. I recognize that the writing keeps its feet on the ground better judging from EotN's cutscenes on Youtube.

Imagine, some of the three best skills in whole GW1 to best explains the game's brilliance were

I tried playing it, but being Australian the pings were horrid.

That and having limited number of skills is no fun.

I think selecting ten from a plenty between combat is fine, but you can't change their positions properly, which irks me.

What part of Blizzard doesn't care about their actual sub numbers don't you understand? But I guess if some random youtuber says they're unsure about Legion, it means Blizzard's going down.

I get the feeling that people are just going to resent WoW for not being exactly how it was when they were eight.

But your taste in games sure is.

I just want it to have the death it deserves.

I would. Both as a game and a GW1 sequel.

Cool argument, hothead.

Do you always get flustered over someone having an opinion you don't agree with?

No. Though you seem to.

Since when did zergfests require skill?

I miss 300v300 battles

"making"

"games"

Oh… yeah… it looks fun

It's possible to do both. The only problem is most devs are retarded and cannot into asymmetric balance. But those devs probably weren't going to produce good shit anyway.

They weren't the "religious right" back right then. Prohibition was started by the Women's Christian Temperance union which had both democratic and republican leaders. It passed with nearly the same vote from both democrats and republicans. Learn your history, bab.

They don't want the label because it's been dragged through the mud and derailed hence which is the point I made. Many of the ones using it now are ironic edgelords.

WoW is dying incredibly slowly though. They've been dying since the Lich King expansion

HoT line/static control caps made it harder than it used to be, but my 20-man guild raids still regularly wipe (and wipe to) map blobs.

There also tends to be at least a couple of other fights guilds on any given server who avoid accumulating pugs and just want good fights.

This sounds familiar.

sorry about your downs ;)

>massivelyop.com/2016/08/13/guild-wars-2-says-farewell-to-composer-lena-chappelle/

and the rats are jumping ship. It begins.

i remember i was cursing like a sailor when i heard they decided to go F2P,i was a person who bought GW2 on the month it was released

how is FF14 doing atm, are servers moderately populated or more like ghost towns?

Glad they're doing poorly but hope it doesn't die altogether since I still play GW1 and need dem servers up.

Maybe it'll do just poorly enough that they realize they need to kick out the socjus and other incompetents, hire good devs, and make a GW3 that's actually a GW game.

This is doubly stupid since holy trinity didn't work very well in GW1 to start with.

I mean, GW1 had two main party formats for vanquishing, you either had high-damage melee classes augmented by support (MoP and such) and a couple monks keeping everyone alive. Or you just had a big mesmer casterball later on.

Tanking was largely restricted to gimmicky farming builds like 600/Smite or the older DoA team builds. Nuking similarly wasn't very effective outside PvP until the mesmer buff and it's still questionable if it'd be branded nuking or shutdown.
