With the amount of farm land it has, both in use and out of use, and taking into account time to fallow, the US alone could theoretically feed most of the world population, were it not for the difficulties of shipping.

The economics of food production is actually quite an under utilised redpill. When you dig into it (I will collate my data and make a thread) you quickly understand how Government manipulation (often in the form of subsidies) as well as the globalized economy specifically encouraging export/ import of foodstuffs has perverted the price of food to such an extent that the price of many good bare little relation to the cost of production.

In my country food should be easily double what it costs today, a price point that would make free range and organic produce competitive enough to be consumed exclusively. At the same time other expenses such as housing under a sane economic structure (I am referring to my country) would be much lower thusly making accurately priced foods and therefore free range meat affordable.
