Why is the First Order so forgettable compared to the Empire and CIS?

The well established enemy of the rebels. They were the empire. They had things going on, characters that mattered. Their existence had consequence to the greater world, not just the movie. The stormtroopers acted like any military men would. It felt pretty realistic as an entity and felt serious as a power structure. Their equipment and vehicles are well designed and cool.

They're disposable robots, something for the Jedi to destroy. But they're well defined disposable robots and have unique designs.

Disposable humans with well defined roles. They took the aesthetic of the empire and added some color. They had cool interesting equipment and vehicles. Plus the fact that they are human clones lends a whole bunch of interesting character stuff.

I don't even remember what the excuse for them existing is. They had a comical super weapon to compensate for the fact they had no real power whilst the empire had a super weapon to solidify their already established power. There's nothing interesting about them. Their equipment and vehicles are boring and generic. There's no humanization of the actual organization. They literally only exist to do simulate a rebellion

This is unintentionally brilliant. A woman who represents and supports the diversity pushed onto this movie by jews.. ends up murdered and humiliated by that same diversity that she helped create. It's like those EU politicians who get raped by Muslim migrants and then have to go on live TV and say that diversity is their strength.

What irks me is that the female in charge of the army is a captain, a fairly lowly rank, and the guy leading the naval fleets is a general, which is an army rank. These guys will be fucked unless they figure out how proper military ranks work.

I've yet to see this explained in the two movie.

Not to play devil's advocate, but it took George about thirty years to give the Empire a proper backstory too. The full history of the nu-Empire is hashed out in several canon novels and some other shit. The only redeeming factor with the history is that the Republic is so shit like a third of the Galaxy voluntarily joined the Empire right before TFA.

Are they an offshoot organization working at the edge of the galaxy against the massive new republic. Or are they a massive empire working against a little new republic group. The films seem to imply both. They have no constant form, simply being whatever the plot needs them to be at the time.

Yeah, I got that they were rapidly taking over the galaxy from the few lines a dialogue that Mary Sue had on it. But its never really shown, or explained how a small group could rapidly takeover the galaxy. In two movies there has been absolutely zero world building.

They're not really that small. From what I understand, they got a slice of mid-rim, outer rim, and pushed well into the unknown region as well, and a large piece of Republic peacefully split off and joined them a few years before TFA, as well as another domain that was officially the Empire but demilitarized joining them. Not to mention that a pile of Republic senators were aiding them financially during the "cold war" period before the new trilogy began.
