SWTOR ended being profitable though and its still receiving new content

Reminder than "games that bombed" does not mean "games you don't like".

SWTOR would of been more profitable as a single player RPG.

SWTOR is actually really successful when it went f2p. You are right that at launch it was an sheet and utter failure. Kind of like FFXIV being a complete train wreck at launch. However now it's the only subscription MMO with a growing userbase.

This was profitable in the long run.

They made a fucking ton of Kickstarter money.

possibly, but it still made money, so it's dumb to call it a flop

Hellgate London. And I fucking love HGL

Isn't that like calling CISbusters a hit because it probably going to make its budget back?

It wouldn't even do that, mate.

Bomberman.

[citation needed]
IIRC, the game boasted to have $500 million budget

Black desert online IIRC

I hope English is your second or possibly third language.

Dragon Age 2

They'd be lucky to be worth even a tenth of that.
500 million dollary doos isn't something company like EA can invest in a project.

DmC bombed hard and apparently so did SF5

Ahem.

Not cool. I'm French Canadian

So you're a double cuck?

If you think SWTOR tanked hard, take a look at Asheron's Call 2

And it was actually good.

Phil Fish go

...

this …
seriously , you can make fun of french all day, they still have the best bread in the world …

but french canadian don t even have that IIRC …

...

Bombed so hard that it killed it's developer and can no longer be legally sold. Fun game with lots of potential though.

Reminds me how Holla Forums made a big deal they had that grammar error in the subtitles for Arkham City (for Riddler's dialogue no less). -and then by Arkham Knight they still don't have "they're-" shit together with homonyms.

That guy in the middle is supposed to be a goofy parody of a sith knight right? Right?

...

N'écoute pas les cocus.

You're putting the egg before the chicken here. It wasn't shit sales of Too Human that did Silicon Knights in. It was that they blatantly plagiarized code for the game's engine.
The court called for all unsold copies of the game to be removed from all retail store shelves and destroyed in addition to the multi-million dollars in damages they had to pay out in the lawsuit.

It's making a ton of money

...

mmo not mmorpg you dummy

But the servers are like 12 large..

Literally one of the most profitable MMOs to have existed

Its a lame MMO but decent singleplayer game at least

this is wrong as shit, tera is f2p

Age of Conan and The Secret World, it bankrupted Funcom so hard that they use the Conan license on a survival game now.

They where so bankrupt that the only franchise they have/had needed to be licensed the longest journey games, which was remade as Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey made by Red Thread Games.

I can't find another Game company that got so fucked as Funcom.

You don't get to pick where you were born, or who your parents are any more than you get to pick how big your dick is, what color your skin is, or how high your IQ is. Taking pride or shame from any of those things is fucking stupid.

Not every French-Canadienne has to be a retard, just like not every American has to be ignorant. The stereotype is only as real as you make it to be, and we see on a daily basis people who post outside of the "general idea" of what their race or culture represents to the rest of the world.

It needs 500 mil to break even and the movie made 40 mil on opening week.

So profitable it went F2P in less than a year. So profitable that servers were barren even at its peak.

How do you know this when we don't know how much they spent on marketing and to make the game itself?

F2P is what saved it

Never underestimate the power of whales and retards who throw money at the screen

Its two weeks old and it still hasnt made its producion budget back

Do you not remember all the publicity that was generated over how much EA invested in the game?

gamesradar.com/analysts-eas-stake-old-republic-probably-approaches-500m/

maybe this will finally teach them something, but I doubt it

It's still an estimate, likely to be higher. There's no way that TOR is close to that mark in earnings.

...

I hate how people define mmos as "any online game which is run on company owned servers". It becomes fucking worthless as a term.

French make the bread, Quebecois make the maple syrup.

Most people bash on french canadians out of a habit born from cultural phobia. A lot of the bashing is done in good fun and french canadians will retaliate in similar fashion. But there's always retards that think being born in a different country/culture or speaking a different language makes you a subhuman monkey. Which is stupid and dead wrong unless you're talking about BRs or chinese or ruskies.

Anyways, games that sunk harder than the TORtanic? Evolve, ESO, Wildstar and Spore would be good contenders.

Tera also has a cash shop

kek, I'm sorry I just found that amusing.

Also the obvious answer to the game that sunk the hardest is…

Battleborn

...

pretty good game as well, if they had released it 6 months after cata they would have taken over

Battleborn is probably the best answer, at the very least in recent years.

On the bright side, Gearbox is assuredly taking a massive hit on it, so maybe they'll get put out of their misery.

Even if I wanted to play it (which I didn't, lord knows the last thing we need is another WoW clone), the box art would have kept me away. A Dreamworks-smirking midget rodent, no thanks.

Glad it bombed too. Smug asshole at my former work was bragging about it and how it was going to dominate WoW a couple years ago. I still get schadenfreude thinking about it.

Real shame, the raiding/dungeon team really had its shit together. I was in one of the guilds that was privately testing raid content and the guys involved often came into our voice chat to talk with us. They were real bros and really loved what they were doing and I feel bad that the rest of the people on the Wildstar team were wholly incompetent.

Hard mode silver/gold runs where some of the most fun I'd had in a MMO since tanking Shattered Halls/Arcatraz heroic and pre-nerf Yogg0.

r u chinese

i'm pretty sure you can't buy boosts in it, though
and either way that would make it pay 2 win, not pay 2 play

Evolve

Premo, fuck STARS for releasing the strat. It started the whole "release the kill video asap". Before that, top guilds had an unwritten rule that you didn't release a kill video until the second or third kill had killed it or were close to killing it.

I just wished stalkers weren't despised.

I'm not sure that's actually true. It could certainly have been a better game (Imperial Agent storyline with a real game attached instead of a WoW clone would have been Bioware's best game in a very long time), but I think it would have made less money. SWTOR was a disaster in a lot of ways but had tons of ways to pull in cash.

Donte must Cut bombed pretty good.

The gaming media is still butthurt over that.

I missed the P2P part there, you're right.

Still waiting for KOTOR 3.

This is true.

Make a single player RPG: one 60 dollar purchase at most

Free to pay MMO: micro transactions

Business wise the Old Republic made sense.
As a gamer it is shit.

New trilogy references Malachor.

but they removed the part about exile trumaning the planet with the mass shadow generator. star wars is forever and irreparably cucked.

It's not like Star Wars is really that good anyway.

funny enough after dying a horrific and painful death FFXIV ended up being really fucking good and actually have started attracting old WoW veterans (like me) to come over to them instead. the secret to beating wow all along was to die first and then come back!

The Division.

The weirdest thing about Battleborn is that they're still making DLC characters for it, yet they still dont mesh well with the rest of the game.

At least the game probably killed Gearbox.

That is true.

I actually liked the Dark Horse comics and some of the games more than the movies.

But I'm over Star Wars anyway. Just hope they never make Kyle Katarn an asian/black gay man.

We might get Darth Treya though, which could make Old Republic era history canon again. At the very least we might get to keep the sith triumvirate of Treya, Nihlus, and Darth Zombieboi

Why

Please tell me they haven't actually done that. I know Force Unleashed was a clusterfuck but it doesn't deserve to get replaced with THAT.

Oh right, you mean the 3 million they wasted on another game that didn't get off the ground?

I wish I was joking

...

the entire EU was written off so Disney could rewrite it.

also anyone got the list of money made for the new ghostbusters movie?

...

my sister plays the game. they still update it and give new content. it just wasn't a wow killer.

Est-ce que "le cocu" veut dire "cuck"?
Je suis un américain qui étudie français.

It means "the cuck", possible the root of the English word.

It was quite used in political debates just like us now in French at the start of the century when they were fighting socialism.

"Les cocus sont à droite, les traîtres sont à gauche."

while your dubs speak truth, there were still gems in the shit. the thrawn trilogy was enjoyable, kotor and kotor 2, shadow of the empire, x wing, even some episodes of clone wars and rebels, albeit they're few and far between.

the good kyle might be in the new movie, unfortunately the core plot is another muh strong female character and the rebellion that user is talking about here

back on topic pic related

Ghostbusters (2016)

...

Wait, what?
As far as I was ever concerned (LOOONG before this shit came around), the Rebellion was always backed by Organa and Mothma.

that's a gross simplification.

some dev or devs used sample code provided with the engine verbatim, and that code isn't licensed for reuse. It was a fairly flimsy excuse for a countersuit, but Epic was pissed.

Didn't really deserve to flop though.

it has to be a game user

I'm Legitimately surprised that it's not in canon sooner. Abrams is a kotor freak and Star Wars rebels had an Hk-47 cameo in an episode.

...

The division did well enough for a movie and a sequel. I wouldn't call it a flop.

...

Sony already said they greenlight the sequel cisbusters.

Of course they are. They bought the rights to the franchise; they're not just in the hole 250 million dollars for the 2016 movies, they're also in the hole for however much it cost them to buy the rights to the franchise. They're not going to just eat the loss without giving the franchise another roll of the dice.

Movie franchise right transfer contracts also generally include a part where the rights go back to the original owners if they're not being exploited by the new owner on a regular basis. This is complete speculation, but I think if Sony doesn't make more Ghostbuster movies they'll lose the rights to make Ghostbuster movies completely. So they're not even able to squat on the IP for a decade until everyone forgets about their failure, they have to make another movie relatively soon.

Read: Amy Pascal greenlit it. Lets see if the fight against the evil misogynist manpig previous fans continues.

5v5 is not an MMO you assbasket

Try Exsteel.

IT'S 20XX, WE IN DA FUTURE NOW

Seriously, did Gearbox fire all competent artists after Borderlands 2? The art and character design were the only thing these games had going for them and now even that is shit.

did they recast patty?

This sort of mistake is more common among native speakers.

Cuckold comes from the cuckoo, which is a brood parasite - it tricks other birds into raising their young.

There is also no way that Valve is telling anybody how much they make. Wouldn't surprise me if the rest of those numbers were just guesstimates/made up as well.
