And last I checked, it uses the FAT file system, which means you can't transfer any single file over 4GB. I'd only suggest using win98 if you have the proper hardware and physical game copies for it. If not, just get your nostalgia trip by running it in a virtual machine.

Yep, but the thing is that im getting at is that a Linux Distro in my experience have a overall performance increase and plays to cover the laptops primary weakness (heat generation, battery consumption) and most of the "Holla Forums-core" games (and emulators) that can run on on toasters like that HAVE Linux versions these days, so the library hit isn't that bad as it used to be.

Meanwhile we have situations where Win10 and 8 are being sold on hardware that barely handles the OS because MS is forcing a jump, which makes playing the vidya less then a dream, at least that has been the case for me locally.

Basically there are more advantages and less disadvantages, so for a Laptop i consider going for Linux over Win a no-brainer as it plays to the strengths and weaknesses better.

All you have to do is format it, which is always built into the installer and the os.

Windows 8.1 and 7 are the same, except 8.1 looks nicer and also creates problems if you're trying to dual boot. However, you must disable updates forever and uninstall any updates that may already be on related to telemetry. Look it up.

The drivers can be an issue, but so far I've been able to get several machines back to 7. The main problems I got to were some dedicated GPUs and some wireless cards.

In particular, there was this Acer laptop that I wanted to try Linux on. The wireless card was an Atheros, and it only has drivers for Win10. So I got an intel wireless+BT chip, and replaced that motherfucker. Problem solved.

You can get Win-10-shipped laptops to work with older Windows or even Linux. You might just need to do some changes… And believe me, it's worth it. Win10 is a fucking nightmare, and not just because of the spy shit. Forced updates are insanity, if there's a bugged driver (we know that happens often) and you get updated, you can end up on forced BSoDs. If Win10 decides to reboot for updates when your video was rendering, fuck your hard work - time to update.
