THE GREAT DEBATE: Final Fantasy or Dragon Warrior. Which of these two NES titles is the better JRPG?

THE GREAT DEBATE: Final Fantasy or Dragon Warrior. Which of these two NES titles is the better JRPG?

Final Fantasy I is no doubt better than Dragon Warrior I.
Warrior not Quest okay.

but DW3>FF3

Yes, FFII was also pretty shitty, it only caught on with IV.

The first Dragon Warrior/Quest was trash. So FF.

Dragon Warrior without a doubt, at least it stays thematically consistent. Mixing magic and tech is pantsu on head fucking retarded.

Compared to

They're both terribly aged and I'm painting FFI better than it is, but compared to DQ1, it's not much to compare to. Dairy Queen's biggest problem is probably that there's no decision making, while even FFI offered that.

I guess DQ1's only thing going for it is it was one of if not the earliest RPG attempts for a console like NES, and if you're really dead inside and just want to do something mindnumbing after a long day you can just go and kill things.

...

...

...

Did you not read the OP?

I was mostly picking apart specifically the original NES FFI and DQ1. I don't know much about later DQ games as I only really played NES 4 to any extent (and a little of 5 since I wanted to see Pokemon DQ) and 4 had some nice songs. That one had tracks that were leaps and bounds better over the original. Vid related.

plz no bully I'm just saying original DQ1 was really bad at stuff

It's just the same song as in the NES version but with a soundfont. It's actually nice music when it's not restrainted by the awful soundchip of the NES. What is your point?

FF1 is better than DQ1
DQ2 is better than FF2
DQ3 and FF3 are both good in their own right
FF4 and DQ4 are both equally good in their own right
FF5 is better than DQ5 (deal with it waifufags, DQ5's main party is boring, and so was its story. adds nothing to gameplay while FF5 has the second best job system in the series)
FF6 is better than DQ6, although DQ6 is an upgrade from DQ5
FF7 is better than DQ7
DQ8 is better than FF8
FF9 is slightly better than DQ9, although DQ9 has better combat gameplay
FFX is better than lolMMO

There you have it.

And of course, SMT is better than FF any day.

Both were terrible but FF1 is slightly less terrible. Frankly JRPGs as a whole should be removed from history.

Here's your

Are you TRYING to summon foul personafags that refuse to admit Mitsuru is best girl?

Let me guess, DQ7 is too long for you?

While I DO admit that the Job system is probably the greatest thing to ever happen to FF, did you somehow miss out on the whole Monster Recruiting thing DQV had?

Really, if you want to knock DQV of anything, you should talk about the endless tide of NTR porn that fucking horse has plagued it with.

Chrono Trigger>>>>>>FF6>DQ5>FF7>DQ8>FF4>FF5>DQ3>FF9>DQ4>DQ7>DQ6>FF8>>>FF10>FF3>FF1>DQ1>>FF12>DQ2>FF2

I haven't played FF11, FF13, FF14, DQ9, or DQ10.

Great list, Chrono Trigger is definitely GOTYAY

Overrated, but still better than DQ7.

...

Yeah, it's the greatest JankRPG I've ever played!

...

Chrono Trigger is one of the few entry level games that are better than most other games in it's genre, like Super Mario Bros. 3 or Doom. Sure it's simple, but there's nothing wrong with simplicity when it's done right.

Final Fantasy 1 is the best JRPG ever made.
I'm not even kidding. It's a really tight game without all of that batshit insane over-the-top japanese "storytelling" shit, yet it still feels expansive and adventurous.

Dragon Warrior is also fantastic, but it feels much more restrictive due to its mechanics. Also you can name your character a string of brackets and be OP as fuck, since your character's skill point progression on level up is based solely on your character's name.

FF1 .. it was the best. FF1 was the pinnacle of rpg adventure, with the freedom to build your own party in a time where nobody was doing anything like that.

...

I pick FF1 > DW1

Dragon quest as a franchise is better but the first ff is better than the first DQ

all shit

I hate dragon quest for its religious bullshit being shoved into every game in the series. Final Fantasy is much more neutral fantasy, except for xiii and their idea of creating a messiah out of lightning.

So FF is better in every way.

This, /endthread

Instead of Fighting slimes in front of the castle for hours, you can try running from tougher enemies long enough to reach towns, or treasures in dungeons and use the equipment there to gain an advantage.

Do you think it's trying to preach to you or something? It's just mythology, which is apart of the world-building. The games' stories were influenced by medieval and classical myths/fairy tales, which often had a lot a interactions with God/s. I'm 99% sure that Horii is an atheist or at least agnostic, so he's probably not trying to preach to you. He just wants to make fairy tales in video game form.

...

yeah tbh, i read wizardry was an inspiration for FF, like, the designer went to an apple show in america, flew back to japan and made FF. :p I never got into wizardry though, IDK why

Trick question

The answer is Zelda II

correction, most JRPGs were inspired y Wizardry, especially for DQ.
what FF did was steal from the bestiary of DnD.
You don't belong here.

To be fair, it was Dragon Quest 3 that inspired Final Fantasy 1, so you should really compare those two, and when comparing those two Dragon Quest 3 murders Final Fantasy and leaves it in a clearing as a sacrifice to the Dragonlord.

...

Correction: It was Dragon Warrior II that inspired Final Fantasy, but that's why we should compared Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior III, they were both released within a short period of time of each other.

Final Fantasy obviously, and comparing the first entry of each series isn't even that fair. Final Fantasy was a far better franchise as well. That was until the major stinkers started to pile up.

Even if this is bait, your opinion on DQ5 is retarded. It's easily one of the very best out of either franchise.

final faggotry > faggon warrior

The first Dragon Quest game was impressive because there was nothing else to compare it to. It has not aged well because it takes a long time to grind to the first dungeon and get decent equipment. The Game Boy Color remake is much better, one of my personal favorites, really.

yeah the 1-3 cart is the best jrpg experience on the GBC other than Gold/Silver.

They're both shit-tier Wizardry clones dumbed down for consoles, and weeabroo grindan sims are the cancer that produced the modern day industry's understanding of/obsession with progression systems as psychological manipulation machines.

Dragon Quest.

...

I'm glad I'm not into DQV, all it gets is bestiality porn even when it's not the horse.

You kill a dragon while being of the warrior class.

Well it had DQ to base itself off of.

Final Fantasy is the better choice if you want to be told the story which has a melodramatic tone and with gameplay that constantly gets thrown in the garbage for something newer.

Dragon Quest is if you want to discover the story which has a lighter tone that's not above getting dark when it needs to and with gameplay that only gets tweaked with each entry.

I've only seen vids of DQX and there's no way in hell it's worse than the corridor shit job.

Have you considered killing yourself?

Pokémon.

...

DQ1 also has the hilariously retarded mechanic that makes it so your stat growth is arbitrarily affected by the name you pick for your character

And, no, this is never explained anywhere in the game or the manual.

PS >>>>>>>> FF = DQ

Lufia >>>>>>>>>>>>>>PS

Star Ocean.

I liked this game…

Why are you comparing 8 bit jrpgs from the 80s to 16 bit jrpg from the 90s? Are you retarded?

Chrono Trigger

because yes that is why, also PS had more game than that 8bit one so yeah suck it

Fuck off gook.

The FF1 came out after DQ3 though.

yes and..?

It's called Dragon Quest you stupid faggots
