Just trying to look for something new to dump a lot of time into, is this easy to get into? or am I gonna have to deal with a month long learning curve? I've got this old ass Holla Forums guide but it appears to be out of date but I have no idea.

there's little game mechanics that require much to understand
Pretty easy. Most things are pretty intuitive, the only tricky thing is figuring out what the hell you want to do in the game.
I knew that I wanted to provide team support (partly because my FPS is so shitty there's no way I could effectively use a combat class), so I focused my certs along that line with most tossed in Combat Medic and some in Engineer.
If you think that being sneeki breeki and being a shitter to the enemy is good, go for infiltrator. If you want to kill tanks and have moar dakka while being immune to boolet, go Heavy Assault. If you just want to kill Tranu and Burgers and have the most map mobility, take Light Assault. Don't worry about certing vehicles/aircraft for a little while until you're comfortable with the classes and gameplay, then just figure out if you want to really specialize in a particular vehicle/aircraft or just want to have something basics to provide some extra support.
It's easy to get into, it's hard to git gud
To start with, (until the next patch hits) you're at an automatic disadvantage against literally everyone else when you start playing.
Your starting weapon is fine, but everything else you start with is uncerted. You'll be spending your first 30 ranks simply getting up to speed with the classes - and don't even think about vehicles.
The gun mechanics in this game are more complex than any other shooter I've ever personally played. Gravity is simulated, air friction is simulated (but not implemented), ricochet is simulated (but not implemented), bullet velocity is simulated, actual projectile physics are used, your gun has multiple types of recoil from horizontal and vertical tolerances to increasing cone of fire and these can all change depending on whether you are running, walking, or ADS'ing. Optics are actually sighted-in for specific ranges, so it's possible to shoot above the target you're aiming at if they're too close, just like IRL. Aim can also be thrown off by being hit or with near misses of explosives around you - which will also violently shake your screen.
You will miss because you aren't horizontally leading your target at 20m. You will miss because you didn't adjust for bullet drop. You will miss because you decided to spray n pray instead of burst firing, you will miss because your aim sensitivity is set too high.

For most new players, the best thing about the game is getting to see and be a part of shit like webm related.
It's piss easy if you've ever played a shooter, but the most important thing to remember is to not spend upgrade currency right off the bat. For the first handful of levels you'll get ~100 certs and at around level 15 you'll get a one time refund of certs.

Reminder that when in buildings, or defending a point, try not to move around too much (pick a nice point with good cover, and hold that position). I often end up killing people because they walk into my line of fire while trying to avoid enemy fire.
ADADing is good in the open, but not when you run the risk of walking into your team-mates' bullets.

Most of my teamkills are probably people ADAD'ing or whatever into my line of fire inside a building/doorway.
PSA if you're going to shoot from a doorway, crouch so people behind you don't shoot you in the back. Helps a lot.

This is how you drop onto the balcony from the middle deck. There is a wrong way to do this, and that involves jumping from that first ledge I show and losing half your health when you land.
This is how you should use the underground jump tube that's in every tech plant. The lift I go to leads into the vehicle hangar bay. Holding space while flying through the tubes makes you go faster. This also works in regular vertical lifts. Spacebar = more upwards vertical speed, ctrl = more downwards vertical speed.
This is how to jump up into a small tower wall from the outside.

It's better to use the crates, shelves and whatever cover there is in the room. Not only would you get shot less because you'd be exposed with no cover in doorways but your teammates would be less likely to accidentally shoot your bum.

It depends on the position of a doorway, and the positioning of the crates. But yes, generally you don't want to shoot from the doorway that literally all of the bullets are coming through.

depends, on SMGs for instance they're a must since the downsides don't matter but on other weapons i normally use suppressors in special cases like my biolab loadout. TR suppressors are actually the loudest in game however and you should only use them for the lack of tracers and appearing on enemy minimaps since many weapons make less noise without a suppressor
All we'd need is to know the rotation of the map to make sure that we didn't actually START with the Crown.

Depends on what you want to do most. I certed out medic and engineer tools to the max pretty much first priority. I'm not much of a tank driver, so my prowler is still almost stock. As for C4, definitely get it ASAP if you intend to play a single class a lot.

A lot of people get shot down once or twice after fumbling with the controls and decide never to touch it again.
Most of the people flying around are actually pretty terrible pilots, but the good ones will wreck you in 1vs1's and will require some teamwork to deal with. So, get some friends and just keep flying a lot.

In other news, the PSForever team that is working on the PS 1 emulator managed to actually mod the game by just altering game files, video related is a MiniChaingun shooting Flail artillery projectiles. They're awfully close to finishing a working server as they can get the game to work with a spoofed LAN server, all they need is a Login server and to work the chat and lattice system.

I know when I lead I often get a bit too busy actually fighting to check the map often, so warnings of important territories being taken is nice, as long as it's before there's only 1 minute left in the cap of the base, and suggestions are pretty much always welcome.

I'm the opposite, I'm usually more invested in how things are going on the map screen than in my immediate area.
Thankfully, there are plenty of comfy positions, like Sunderer sitting or previous Base Defense, that allow one to have a reduced sense of awareness while still somewhat contributing.
They're not useless, after all they ARE an autonomous second source of constant damage, you just have to know where and when to use them.
Think of it like the Mini-Sentry from TF2; It probably won't kill anyone on it's own, but it WILL split their attention while hopefully getting a bit of extra damage in.

hover stability is what you want on any aircraft becase roll+pitch is how you turn, bonus points for horizontal speed if you fly in cruise
in a valk you either do IFV, which is mostly hovering behind a rock peeking out to shoot from time to time

you fly hit and run which Ive never seen actually work
valk is good when you just fly for the sake of it or want AFK cert which is around 100 per biolab assuming the airchavs ignore you

Wyvern is the best but my flying is pretty erratic for it to be that useful which is why I might consider swapping out to a Missle Launcher so it's far easier to do hit and runs.
You want both Scout radar for when you don't expect squads to spawn into your valk and squad Logistics when you do. Fire supression is pretty shit because Valk-chan really is sensitive to pain.
I prefer the Evasiveness frame over hover since it's far easier to roll your Valk in it and allows you to do some pretty crazy flying.
Valk-chan's main purpose is to crazy as fuck drops on the enemy 'nam style. Expect to lose her as soon as you drop your men.
I still haven't certed her fully yet. Still need one more level in Evasiveness and get Comp armor up.
The valkyrie has unique air frames, so the hover stability frame is pretty shit because it doesn't give you what you need.

I started playing VS to see how they work. I'm most amazed by level of coordination that goes on, it seems that most outfits are cooperating with each other and coordinating within themselves. I think the reason TR can only zerg is because TR has no unified leadership, it's essentially 5 or 6 factions with the same color. I have only an hour or two played as VS, so I could be wrong, but I don't think I am.
