It was a half-baked idea to go with the failed steam console, which itself could have been successful if valve made it themselves instead of letting retarded 3rd parties take over and charge +6 grand.

steam box was basically a console that can play pc games. what a shitty concept, no one wants to be locked into a DRM environment to get access to run their games

There was no consistent information on it: It was mentioned, there was no info for years, then out of nowhere they announced it's coming out in a month or two. They handed the development off to it to 3rd parties who charged out the ass for it.

They could just get a PC like anyone else, or a prebuilt, which is basically what the steam garbage boxes were.

Steambox was suppose to be a cheaper simpler alternative. You forget most people buying their first PC get tripped up over specs and fall into "A half decent PC is 3grand" meme because alienware charges out the ass and most prebuilt companies rely on consumer ignorance. Then valve turned around and trusted said companies to make their console.
