What is Holla Forumss opinion on the Icelandic Pirate Party?

So… half an hour until Icelandic election results are in.

Birgitta Jonsdottir and her party are too interesting too ignore.

I've seen Birgitta give much importance to making Iceland more individualist, which beyond having no idea what that means in a leftist context, seems dangerous.

Then again they also support direct democracy and citizens constitutions, which is a great idea, if executed correctly. And it's also a much needed slap in the face to the NRx anti-democratic community.

Anyone here from Iceland that can illuminate us here? People who try to talk about politics from countries that they are not in usually mess it up.

...

wtf, i hate Holla Forums now

anarcho-piratism when?

They're not perfect, but they seem a hell of a lot better than any of the others. I'd trust them to lead us towards fully-automated luxury communism, although they might not take the optimal route or actually call it communism.

Just because you are vocal doesnt mean you dominate the board.

I used to be pretty closely involved in pirate party here in 'murica.

Any pirate party tends to be very ranged in ideas, espesially the united states one there is communists, anarchists, liberals and radical centrists. Mostly just because the economic/social system isn't really what makes a pirate parties, but more so the copyright reform/hacker ethic type deal. The Iceland particularly is very overwhelmingly socialist in nature. Obviously it's only the extent of socialist as a decent sized political party, but they have a large focus on collective ownership of natural resources, increase in public participation in decision making, and more transparency in federal government/enterprises. It's generally some good shit, I like them a lot. As far as I know the jonsdottir was earlier some kind of anarchist activist but I cannot be certain about this.

The media was hyping them too much, the Greens are beating them for 2nd place currently.

Would Greens in Iceland form coalition with Pirates for a new government?

They are already in coalition with the Green, Social Democrats, Bright Future, and one other party I forget. They could win in coalition government.

Their top priority is opening up the borders, so that's not happening.

Seems like a short-sighted goal to focus on piracy. It's not like these liberal countries (John Adams kind of liberalism, not sjw…) like Finland or Iceland need any help being individualist.

A pirate party makes no sense in countries where patent laws aren't even enforced. And really is patent enforcement even the primary contradiction in capitalism? Or is it the fact that you let pedophile mods control the information superhighway? Looks like ancaps got their roads after all… and they all lead to dead-ends where they end up banning their future employers who are going to fire them if they find out.

I'm sure the piracy party props itself up with DUDE, WEED and other libertarianesque principles to get one or two votes, but it is not Marxist or even third-position.

Are they like the German pirate party? They died a very painful death after they were run down by the worst type of SJWs after having initial success.

as a burger, this number of parties triggers me

So far the right-wing coalition is winning.

21+6+8=35 seats

11+9+4+4=28 seats

Ponies are sjw?

By my count it's 40-23 to the right-wing coalition.

None of the traditional coalitions have enough seats. The liberal Regeneration Party ultimately decides if the new government has the Pirates and Greens in it or not. Or it's possible the Pirates join a centre-right coalition, but unlikely.

REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY IS A DESPICABLE SCAM.

Gay.

They have to go to Siberia.

Absolutely Autistic they really need to be locked in Siberia.

Centre-Right PM resigns after elections, Regeneration looking to join left-opposition. Ruling party with Pirates and Greens looking likely.
nytimes.com/2016/10/31/world/europe/icelands-prime-minister-resigns-after-pirate-party-makes-strong-gains.html

"The liberal Regeneration Party, which is expected to play the role of kingmaker in the horse-trading following the election, has ruled out joining a coalition with the current governing establishment parties. This could mean that left-leaning parties could potentially form a ruling coalition.

While the conservative Independence Party made gains, “it is not a return to the status quo,” said Andres Jonsson, a political consultant. To form a government, the party will have to extend its hand to smaller, more rebellious groups, he said.

“The traditional party system has been disrupted,” Mr. Jonsson said. “We are not seeing big movements of people who feel that they are able to relate with the messages of the big coalition parties. Changes are going to come from the outside, not from inside the old parties.”

The election highlighted the fragmentation of the political landscape. A dozen parties fought for power over an electorate of about 260,000, barely enough to fill three American football stadiums.

Birgitta Jonsdottir, the anarchist leader of the Pirate Party, said she was satisfied with the result. “Whatever happens, we have created a wave of change in the Icelandic society,” she told a cheering crowd here early Sunday morning.

About 40 percent of Pirate supporters are under the age of 30. They had pinned their hopes on a party that has promised to install a more inclusive and transparent government.

The Pirates have pledged to enhance direct democracy by passing the world’s first “crowd-sourced constitution,” drafted by Icelandic civilians rather than politicians. Parliament blocked the document in 2013."

using American pop culture to insult Americans is poetic fam

Are there people that autistic and unaware of it out there? I support the Icelandic Pirate Party but this is god damn hilarious.

hahahaha, suck it, commies!

You're thinking a bit too much like an American. Coalitions win, not parties in other countries. Right now, it's looking like the left coalition will win given the Regeneration Party is the kingmaker right now and they have publically stated they will not join a coalition with the Independence Party.

Also the Independence Party you are talking about supports the welfare state of Iceland.

Right now, because the liberal party does not want to join the independence party, it looks

The Pirate party stands for a lot more than just cutting back intellectual property laws. They have a robust, well thought-out set of policies on most issues.

Given the rest of your post, you should really just hurry up and kill yourself.

They are liberals. That's all you need to know

Everyone outside of my specific brand of anarcho-hoxhaist-stalinism is a liberal. Liberals are the worst.

But they are. And the PP never showed any desire to exhert change outside the boundaries of the current capitalist system. They are liberals.
