Grand strategy game fuckery

Sup leftys, I want to use the Soviet Union to take over the world and turn it into a socialist utopia. I'm can't decide between downloading Hearts of Iron 3 or 4, I heard a lot of bad stuff about the fourth game but I'm still not sure, what do you think? Is the game only about WW2? Do I need mods for cold war politics and all that jazz? Any other cool games you can recommend?

Get Darkest Hour.

Try civ 6 :)

I did, that that game is for babbies :(

To expand on this: If you want more Interwar and Post-War (politics) DH is the way to go both in the base game and in the form of a multitude of mods.
I would also consider it easier to get into than HoI3 and possible HoI4 while teaching you a base that will make it easy to get into both of the later games.

Darkest Hour also has the greatest mod made for any HoI game ever, namely Kaiserreich which is set in a richly fleshed out alternative history were Germany won WW1 and Syndicalism has become the dominating force of the left.

Thanks man, that's the kind of answer I wanted, I'm looking into Darkest Hour right now.

HoI3 and 4 are really only about WW2 and the three years preceding it, there's very little in the way of mechanics or events that happens after it's over.

DH is better in this regard especially with mods but actually most fitting game for what you're looking for might be Victoria 2.

...

HOI4 has some features not present in HOI3 (changing government type, civil wars etc.) and is a lot more simplified compared to HOI3. HOI4 is easier for beginners. There are some blatant historical inaccuracies though.

Just one example

DH is probably the way to go if you're more interested in the politics side of things. But if you want something newer or prefer to limit yourself to the bigger HOI titles I think you should go with 4. There's less flavor (the three leftist ideologies in the game have all been narrowed down to just "communist"), but it's actually easier to switch ideologies and I think generally the politics in that game are more fluid and allow you to create the scenarios you want. It's just that the war AI still sucks.

There's sub-ideologies, but they're just are a label with a slight diplomacy bonus.

(Anarchism exists, but it's Communism with no differences what so ever. :^) DLC material?)

This is why I'm waiting until the game isn't shit with mods and DLC and is on sale.

How does Holla Forums feel about the Abyss and Armageddon scenarios for HOI2?

I had been working on converting them to DH and adding some more flavor until I lost motivation

...

I bet you paid for it you cuck

But it has glorious mixed race humanity and penalizes xenophobia.

hearts of iron IV is objectively best of the serie
t. played them all

Also, tell me more about darkest hour, I played it only for ww1 scenario and as socialist germany in 1933

It's like HOI but a tad simpler I suppose? In some aspects at least

At least compared to HOI3

Does it have more events or for "more political depth" you mean that slider thingy?

Compared to HOI4 there's actually more than 3(4) ideologies in DH, although it's determined by sliders.

I would say HOI3 has the most political depth, or at least has the capability to be with the engine it uses.

Kaiserreich for DH is always good times. Nothing like leading the CSA to victory in the American Civil War.

CIV5 had some great socialism inspired mods.

How is this for the USSR in Stellaris?
