Belgian trappist beers like Orval are not only wonderful beverages, the profits also are in significant parts used to fund charities.

The NC Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Board only manages hard liquor (vodka, whiskey, gin, etc) everything else, like beer and wine, can be sold privately.

Making beer is ridiculously easy. My friend and I have started doing it, and you can make something like 5 gallons of beer for $20, less if you're smart about it.

Slave labor abroad can make parts so cheap, especially when ordered in bulk, that it makes up for additional costs. "You gotta spend money to make money" is a common maxim for a reason. Getting the expensive shit made abroad could more than make up for the increased expense of more cheap parts.
