"Fake news" term history

Every media outlet today is claiming that Trump pushed the "fake news" term in 2016. But I clearly remember that it was Clinton who tried to push it first in response to Project Veritas, and Trump originally used the term to mock her.

I even remember either the Clinton Foundation or the DNC releasing a list of "fake news" websites they recommended avoiding, which included wikileaks. But history has been rewritten, and I can't find evidence of either now.

Would anyone care to help?

It was literally the media and then they tried to stop it after it backfired.

Not sure on timeline, but "valeuutiset" (lit. fake news) was a term in Finland regarding non-correct info about migrants raping or killing people in Finland back in 2015 before Trump had even announced running. It was used to undermine all news about rapes, muggings and killings into "fake news" territory.

Don't quote me on this, but I recall it started not long after those friendly grenade attacks in Sweden last year, where the consensus went from "this is normal" to "this never happened" within the span of 48 hours.

I just recently read a news article from 2003, I think, which contained the phrase "fake news".

yep. the msm used the term fake news in response to alternative news actually reporting the facts. the donald then turned their shit against them and completely destroyed them with it. this fake news meme was actually a coordinated effort by the msm and the dnc not only limited to the usa but was also heavily used in germany.

it seemed to be harvard
archive.fo/vlptn

The term was pushed by establishment news sources to discredit opposition that didn't push the same propaganda. It backfired spectacularly on them.

Also the picture you used is heavily associated with a pedophile dog fucker.

Some group of "anonymous experts" made a webpage with a listing of "fake news" sites. The media ran with this because all the fake news listed were their competitors in alternative media. Clinton and democrats jumped in, along with their "fact checking" sites like politifact. Then Trump flipped it on them, pointing out that media outlets like CNN are literally fake news.

They started it right after Podesta's emails started coming out.
Like the day after the first batch.
Check jewgle trends.

Fake news was pushed towards the last part of the election in this way and for a few months the media drummed up and got it into the heads of everyone 'fake news = bad news'. Then President-Elect Trump during a press conference pointed at CNN's operative I believe and said famously, "You're fake news." That flipped the script almost immediately as many people began saying the MSM were the fake news which was true all along and they have been doing damage control ever since.

I remember the left trying to push it and then Trump co-opting it too.

In context you are referring to it started around November 2016, right after Trump won (as a prevalent meme, was probably there earlier).

(referring to Pizzagate, Marina Abramović…)

Sure is 1984 in here.

Why havent AP and Snopes been hacked yet?

I brought up the same thing to this liberal at my work whom i argue with about politics sometimes.

He's like "well i'd give you the source but i'm sure you would just label it 'FAKE NEWS' "

And actually it was the left/MSM that started using this term first on the alternative media and specifically Alex Jones.
Then Trump turned it around and called CNN fake news.

False, "Fake News" was first used by the MSM about 2 days before Pizzagate hit.

https ://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=fake%20news,pizzagate

'Fake News' was first used the day after the last US elections. They claimed that websites using urls such as news.abc.co were spreading disinformation on facebook. They also had a guy who claimed he 'won' the election for Trump by creating these websites and fake articles and spread it on social media.

Of course it was a bunch of horseshit but that's where the term really took off. The next day or so they released a few dozen websites including wikileaks and breitbart calling them fake news. This was a few days after spiritcooking went viral and a few days before pizzagate would go viral.

WAT

I think he's referring to Sarah Butts. Some kike tranny who was kvetching heavily during gg.

No it fucking wasn't.
It was a direct response to Podesta's emails leaking and the twisted paedo codewords in them.

Not even close to true. What rock were you sleeping under?

They were calling our exposure of podesta's crimes fake news, that's right.

Pizzagate hit first, but google trends don't reflect that because the term "pizzagate" wasn't adopted immediately. People clued into the pedo codes in the email dig threads a few days before it was dubbed "pizzagate".

Incidentally, [anything]gate is terrible branding. We need to stop doing this. The gate-suffix has a terrible reputation for blowing over and nothing happening. Calling your scandal a "gate" primes the public to ignore it.

I know what I'm talking about

I used 5 years to show that "fake news" was unheard of before Paeedoesta's email leak.

We knew of pizzagate yes but "fake news" hit MSM like 2 days before the term "pizzagate" went mainstream.

His name is Nick Nyberg. Otherwise correct.

Remember how a few years back the liberals were claiming that you can use fox news as an source because it's not news?

That's gaslighting for you, they're trying to make you doubt your own memories of what happened even though you can easily confirm them with a quick search on the internet. I actually had to explain to a few people irl that the media invented the term fake news in order to discredit Trump, and that he turned their golem onto them and now they wont shutup about how mad it made them.

Every major "scandal" during the election came immediately after we found damaging information on the clintons, pussytapes were a response to one of the leaks IIRC.

Wrong search term.

trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=Podesta,fake news

Jon Stewart was using the term at least ten years ago.

...

"you are fake news" directed at CNN was around jan 11th with the Russia Piss dossier

Yeah, now that you mention it, it was right when wikileaks was dropping. Anyone reporting the wikileaks was "fake news" while CNN was actually telling their viewers that it was illegal to look at the leaks.

i seem to remember the fake news angle starting in late 2016 after the Putin election hacking angle got stale, and lasting for about 3 months before btfo the mainstream media

Started just before Christmas IIRC. Then Trump jujitsued it.

goybook has had a "fake news" problem for ages and before the election started they made several statements about trying to get rid of the fake news. But at the time they were talking about "local mom loses 400 pounds with this one weird dr oz trick" fake news. Obviously zuckerkike collaborated with the Clinton team to change the meaning of the term "fake news" to mean "right wing news" so it could be censored.

Checked.

Remember the Washington Post PropOrNot article?

15 Dec 2007 - first usage of #fakenews
archive.is/WIjSm
To bad the fake news can't into research about fakenews.

If you mean Fake News, the first I saw was MSM pushed it en force just prior to the Nov 8 election in response to Molesta's emails regarding pizza and cooking.

If you mean fake news, John Rappaport started nomorefakenews.com about a decade ago in response to decades of widespread MSM deception.

I remember that as well. The list included amren and BareNakedIslam.com. There might be some trace of it somewhere on the amren website.

The "fake news" meme was a reaction to Pizzagate. In order to push the meme, main stream media outlets actually started to create fake news stories, (like the one about the CEO of Corona making everyone in his home town a millionaire) only to reveal them as fake news a few days later. But they started to remove these stories from their websites when the meme was highjacked by Trump.

We've always been at war with East Asia you idiot.

It started when (((fact checking))) became a thing.

First, Correct The Record tried to discredit Trump by pushing its own lies under the guise of (((correcting))) him, then other news sources began to fact check, verifying the (((authenticity))) of news, and somewhere at the time "fake news" came to exist, a term created purely to attack Trump and discredit those that attack HRC, while trying to gain authority on fact checking so their enemies couldn't rely on it. Didn't work, but it led to the bullshit we're in, and now it's okay to accuse someone of being Russian based on precedent cases of accusing him even though none of those cases exhibited proof.

bump

Clinton pushed it. The idea that Trump did is laughable and shows how butthurt they are we used it against them. They literally had fake news going on about Trump the whole election cycle and it became so obvious that the general population began to trust Trump more than the MSM itself.

okay I'll explain as best as I can remember
It first started with pizzagate and some guy with a gun walked into the store and said the he "heard about pizzagate" or it was a controlled op
After this there was a massive push about combating "fake news" I specifically remember Hillary coming on a stage and disparaging fake news
Then there was the normie gateway where a msm website posted a list of "Fake news" sites basically all right wing, independent of non msm
and finally, after it became semi mainstream The big man Trump in an 999D chess move told CNN in a press conference
and because this one use was a thousand times more true then every msm use of the phrase combined it became the ubiquitous "fuck you legacy media" term that it is today

Fake News was a memo sent out to all MSM all over the western world not only America that the word was to be shilled. If they've managed to rewrite that history the ADHD of the normalfags is even more severe than I thought.

This is it. WaPo column.

It definitely was around Christmas. A bunch of media outlets dropped the term all at once, "Gamers are dead" style, as if we wouldn't notice. It was clearly coordinated in some journolist.

I remember CNN or Wapo first using the term. Then Clinton used it.
Then Trump used it against them.

The "fake news" term was clearly an attempt to slander the social media's perception in the eyes of normies.

Now everyone uses it for the MSM. Boomers still took it hook, line, sinker though. They don't trust the internet.

This. I remember them specifically targeting the Podesta emails and pizzagate.

I was paying close attention to this forced meme while it was being deployed en masse by the Judenpresse. It appeared for the first time a few days after the election.
Here is one example I was showing to normies at the time. The Wikipedia page for the term 'fake news website' was only created on November 15th, 2016. This has since been retired for a 'fake news' entry created in 2017.

Check the early citations here to see how the term was (((spread))): en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Fake_news_website&dir=prev&limit=500&action=history

When did Pizzagate break? When did Fake News break? Yeah. I didn't collect any data or statistics or anything but to me it was a clear case what it was all about.

When the podesta email with pizza.jpg emerged and someone posted a list of pedo symbols the FBI was interested in.
Clearly the FBI wanted us to "check" if there were indeed links to some of the symbols found in society.
Indeed shortly after that, there were numerous trafficking arrests. It wasn't a conspiracy, it really did find something of merit.
Although there was a load of crap mixed in the digs too… that kinda muddied it.
When we discovered the links to the CP on twitter… we were blown away that we actually discovered something sinister.

Oh and I wonder what we dug up when we discovered sinister locations in LA.

it was most likely preexisting but i remember it being used a lot about pizzagate. which btw i followed sporadically.

It became viral after the forced memeing of the MSM.

The term was floating around before hand, but yeah, signed. The first time I saw the press meme that, was when right after the election (iirc even on the very next day) a bunch of high profile media outlets (BBC and CNN were among them, don't know about the rest any more) got together and founded an NGO with that same 'Fake News' for a name, that kept a public list of outlets that it had - simply by self-declared authority - declared to be fake news. I remember Breitbart and Infowars being on that list, possibly even Russia Today. I didn't post so much attention to it after seeing that, because I took it as just playbook Jewish tricks. If the public starts making a realization, create a self-declared position of authority - an ivory tower if you will - to simply declare otherwise. A lot of people (women) prioritize status over factual accuracy and simply fail for this obvious appeal to authority.

At this point, I would paint some hypothetical shiny, well-decorated studio, where men in expensive suits advertise ISIS and sharia, but put into words, it didn't sound remotely as ridiculous as it did in my head, seeing as something akin to that is actually happening right now.

I need sources on all three of these things for redpilling purposes. I wasn't there when it happened. I drifted away from all that, when the investigation was leading to obscure deep web websites (ended up being fairly early on)

"Fake news" was clearly some focus grouped phrase the lugenpresse was going to trot out when Hillary won the election and people who voted for Trump were upset. It was going to be slander against non leftist media.

Problem is that Trump won and they decided to go ahead with the the term anyway without seeming to realize it would backfire immediately. So why did they go ahead with it, are they just stupid? Well, yeah, but that shit should have been plainly obvious.

My theory is they brought out the fake news term because they wanted to avoid being labeled with the true term: lying press. You see its not that they're a bunch of liars pushing an agenda, its that the news they report is fake. Its a subtle difference, but one term focuses on the phenomenon and the other on the cause of that phenomenon. Honest news outlets can get stories wrong, dishonest ones get them wrong on purpose.

So I'd recommend not using the term fake news. Use the real term, lying press. Assign the blame where its due. Not on poor sourcing, or a rush to get a story out, but malice aforethought.

What a timeline.

Remember when the media ignored Clinton's indirect courting of the "Birther" narrative? But then Trump is accused of inventing it

I remember the same, OP. The MSM and Clinton machine declared that Drumpf is only still in the race because of fake news confusing people and turning them against her holiness. Of course, CNN referring to anything else as "fake news" is a joke, and Trump and his supporters were happy to hurl the fake news label back at the left.

So then the cucks decided to switch tactics and move to the narrative that Trump invented the term to make people distrust the totally-not-biased media that was exposing his "fascist agenda," playing the role of innocent, truth-telling victims being slandered by a demagogue.

I'm not sure if Joe Sixpack picked up on that little narrative-change, though. We really should point it out as much as possible. It's yet another example of the media being completely disingenuous.

In the UK I remember them doing big cover stories and documentary style pieces on "fake news" in relation to how trump won.
Saying that he used fake news like breitbart and infowars.

Then it was turned around by a term the media wasn't using but that the MSM was a victim of being falsely accused of fake news by Trump.

Complete switch-up.

Fuck i completely fudged my grammar here.

But also they blamed facebook heavily for the fake news trump supporters were reading. They would never call out what news sources facebook was showing, but shielded it by blaming facebook which is what led to the filter developement

There was a campaign by the European Union to dismiss all negative information about migrants as "rumors". This is nothing new. It's used by anyone in the mainstream media trying to run damage control via cover up. Deny reality itself by pretending it didn't happen.

is there an equivalent tool to the NY times chronicle?
I recall doing a search with that tool a year ago on the phrase fake news and it's historical frequency of use showed a significant peak prior to WWII

found it

What did they mean by this?

the death of democracy is a good thing its only a bad thing if the jews are allowed to decide and implement the next government.

This user remembers.
Before Trump started using the term, there was an article from Washington Post that claimed

I was surprised to find it's still up, probably heavily edited:

Which is based on the propornot website which magically appeared during the last US election cycle.
propornot.com

I thought we got it from the German "lügenpresse".

Wait a second, wasn't the term fake news first used by CNN? I swear I thought it was them coming out against it in response to an article written by Breitbart at the time.
If I remember correctly, BB wrote a story about a small handful of twitter users in the Massachusetts area saying they had tranny porn running instead of CNN. I want to say it was just before the Podesta shit too.

I can't quite give sources, but I can at least corroborate that these things are accurate, as I remember them as well.

There's no way to "prove" this, but given the intel community's history of studying anons and the chans it's entirely possible that they set anons up for success by intentionally leaving certain clues needed in the open for us to stumble open in our search. A formal investigation would've been blocked by traitors, but by giving a group that you know will cover all the bases a few crumbs of truth to start from they can put together the picture for you.

This did occur. Arrests of trafficking rings across the US following Trump's election, including a big one during the Super Bowl. There was also a bust in Haiti around the same time. These busts weren't very well publicized (obviously), but a short, incomplete list can be found in this February article about the matter: archive.is/UdwsZ

I only vaguely remember this because I don't follow Twitter stuff. IIRC someone found weird tweets and actual child porn floating around specific accounts on Twitter in what was pretty clearly people sharing and distributing and not just random trolls posting it for lulz. I believe most of the accounts involved were Middle-Easterners drooling over boys, but I never looked into it in detail. Most notably in this incident, the accounts that brought attention to the CP were blocked/banned while the CP itself and the accounts sharing it were allowed to remain. I don't think Twitter ever bothered to give a formal response to any of it, and it all kind of faded away as anons got distracted by other things (I think Trump making it rain Tomahawks was the event that took everyone's attention, but I might be mistaken).

See>>10082705 and

This thread is fucking shit. It's almost as if OP is some reddit-fag whose past perceptual event horizon extends only to the beginning of the election and nothing before; like GamerGate (and before that).

It's pretty funny watching the newsniggers trying to navigate imageboards. Don't know how many times I've seen requests for anons to explain every-fucking thing and provide them with enough content for their next shit-tier clickbait article.

They're like clueless 6th graders who have a homework assignment due on Monday. Very sad.

It's just some kike intern trying to figure out why there's a cock in it's ass, when it got there and who put it in.
