HEY FAGGOT YOU SHOULD PLAY DEUS EX, CLICK HERE TO FIND OUT HOW

What is Deus Ex?
Deus Ex, AKA The Best Fucking Game of All Time, is a cyberpunk first-person ARPG where you take the role of UNATCO agent JC Denton who is tasked with defusing terrorist threats by any means possible, as the game supports many different playstyles. Go in guns blazing, find a secret entrance and sneak past all guards, infiltrate via underwater tunnels, hack security to get past turrets and cameras, and use the many augmentations and tools available at your disposal to accomplish your goals. Deus Ex rewards those who use their heads, and with each replay you might find alternative solutions you have never thought of before. The level design allows for all this shit to happen, and though the first level might be a bit too big for it's own good, it's all rock solid after that. There's a fuckton to explore and discover, from supplies to aug canisters or mods. It'll always keep you on your toes, for sure.

The writing doesn't treat its audience like retards either, nor does it spoonfeed the reader with propaganda despite what you might expect from a game with political undertones. There's a fuckton of books and newspapers to read, or just the background dialogue which all flesh out the dystopian world of Deus Ex. Your actions have consequences to which people will react to, though there's no karma system or anything like that. Since you're a superspy who goes traveling around the world infiltrating many top secret facilities, there's plenty of conspiracies to discover too. But seriously, everyone should play this at least twice.

Sounds cool, where do I get it?

It's essential to install Kentie's Deus Exe launcher, as it will allow Deus Ex to run on most modern systems and allow OpenGL and DirectX 10 rendering for better graphics, which you can find at kentie.net/article/dxguide/#downloads

Anything I should know before playing?
Always upgrade your Computing skill to Trained, as this will allow you to hack into anything. Choose to upgrade at least either Lockpicking or Electronics, or both if you won't put more skills into combat skills. Enviromental Training and Demolition are fairly useless skills. The Heavy skill doesn't really get any good weapons until later on. For guns, skills and accuracy are fairly important since you have to stand still and wait for your crosshair to unify before you can get an accurate shot, the time depending on your weapon skill and weapon accuracy (which can be increased with mods, amongst other stats). Alternatively, you can circumvent the clunk accuracy system entirely with the red dot mod, though those are rare and can only be applied to one weapon. The head hitboxes are even more finnicky with melee weapons like the prod which requires a precise attack against the enemy's neck, while a baton blow against someone's back is good to knock them out if you put some points into Low-Tech. Tranq darts don't instantly knock out enemies, but instead your target will run around like a retard while repeatedly making the same OOF sound for 6 seconds until they get KO'd, though they still can raise alarms in this state. You want to have Medicine to at least trained, as it makes medkits twice as useful. Also, put all points into Swimming.

The Regeneration aug is game-breakingly OP if you upgrade it, so keep that in mind. Run Silent might be more useful to stealth players, but Speed Enhancement lets you go fast, jump high, and take barely any falling damage. You can even skip the entire antenna tower ambush by jumping off the building with the speed aug and zipping past the grunts on the ground. While Combat Strength is the aug together with Speed Enhancement if you want to get the Dragon's Tooth and play the game like a supersonic ninja, the exploration abilities of being able to move heavy objects with Microfibral Muscle are not to be underestimated. You can also blow up most locks and objects with explosive if you prefer to take the loud route.

Are there any mods I should get?
Deus Ex can be played vanilla just be fine, and like STALKER is recommended for at least one vanilla playthrough so you can appreciate the changes of the mods on later playthroughs. However, there are plenty to choose from.

New Vision is a graphic overhaul mod which replaces all the background textures (not the models, mind you) with higher quality textures which still fit the atmosphere of the game, though a lot of them can look somewhat flat as they are not 3D. It looks pretty great, and comes with Kentie's launcher pre-installed (albeit an outdated version).
You can get it at: moddb.com/mods/new-vision

HDTP (High Definition Texture Pack) aims to recreate all original Deus Ex models in high definition, though it's still in beta after 10 years. The new look of the models might be off-putting to some, so check out the screenshots of the new models before you install it: moddb.com/mods/project-hdtp

GMDX is a damn good mod which improves on the original in nearly every way, and is probably my favourite. It doesn't add new shit for the sake of adding new shit, but with the aim of staying true to the vision of the original. AI, level design, sound design, balance, UI, controls, and tons of other shit which is better explained by skimming over the features page on the mod site, which also includes the download link: genericname112.wix.com/gmdx#!features/cnec
Keep in mind that GMDX is hardcoded to use HDTP, though you can toggle which models are used in the options.

Shifter + Biomod are mods which aim to 'remove the suck' from Deus Ex. Shifter adds a lot of stuff like alt. fires, being able to use duplicate augs as upgrades, special named weapons, new and rebalanced augs, and a lot of other adjustments. However, it also adds a skill point gain system which rewards you for killing, but also evading enemies completely. Biomod is an extension of Shifter (and comes pre-installed with Shifter) which removes this, and completely rebalances augs. Some augs are passive, some drain energy when active, but some only use energy when the situation arises once turned on, like the Aggressive Defense aug only draining energy when it detects a projectile. Stuff like armor and hazmat now only decrease on use rather than over time. I'd recommend getting Biomod, as it is already combined with Shifter and makes for a great mod, which you can get here: moddb.com/mods/biomod

The Nameless Mod is a complete conversion with an entirely and (competently) voiced campaign. Basically the guys of the Deus Ex fanforums decided to make a mod based on their own forums and the internet, rather than being set in the Deus Ex universe. You play as some secret agent hired by the mods to find a missing admin, but the gameplay is mostly identical to Deus Ex. It features a lot of varied levels, and even two different paths through the main campaign (remember how everyone wished you could choose to keep working under Bob Page?). Keep in mind that since this mod is fairly old, a lot of the humor is based on old phpBB2 forum culture, so expect old memes. Some people feel that the levels are too big, and UE1 isn't always that good with rendering huge detailed levels.
You can find it at: thenamelessmod.com/real/

Deus Ex: Revision is a mod which entirely redesigns the levels of Deus Ex, amongst other things. I haven't been able to play this yet as it ran like shit on my old machine, which is apparently due to some shit like anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering which were turned on by default. Revision also requires Steam to be played, though this can be easily circumvented by following the instructions here: pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Deus_Ex:_Revision
People say that the levels are too big and cluttered now, but I can't say. It also includes a new soundtrack which doesn't hold up to the original, though you can turn this off in the options somewhere. You can download the mod at: dx-revision.com/download/

You don't tell me what to do.

What about the other games?
Deus Ex: Invisible War is the result of the original developers trying to appeal to the console audience, resulting in a casualized mess which barely resembles the greatness of the original. The AI, controls, UI, and graphics are all console-friendly, and plagued by frequent loading screens. It continues after the events of Deus Ex where you play as an Xgender called Alex Denton, who becomes the deciding factor in what faction will rule Earth. Avoid this unless you are morbidly curious or are deeply in need of more Deus Ex.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution surprised everyone by not being as shit as Invisible War despite being released later in the age of decline. While it still isn't as good as Deus Ex (story isn't all that great, skill point gain system encourages stealth gameplay while typical FPS gameplay is heavily discouraged, third-person cover animations and takedowns as melee weapons are absent, mediocre skill upgrade tree, piss filter etc.), the Deus Ex spirit is certainly alive in this game. It provides better art direction and hacking too, at least. HR also has a Director's Cut which integrates the Missing Link DLC in the story, reworks the notoriously bad boss battles to allow for more approaches, reduces the piss filter and apparently improves textures, though some prefer the piss filter as it does a better job at hiding the shitty textures. HR is at least worth a play, I'd say.
You can get the Director's Cut at: magnet:?xt=urn:btih:D50123F533D3703B8D8EC621804D09E35EAD57D4&dn=deus+ex+human+revolution+director+s+cut+corepack&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3A80%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Fglotorrents.pw%3A6969%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3A80%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.opentrackr.org%3A1337%2Fannounce

And the original version at: magnet:?xt=urn:btih:9D25ACC8AEED893FEED7D180B68B8C56D7D70D75&dn=deus+ex+human+revolution+complete+edition+dlcs+2014+pc+dz+repack&tr=http%3A%2F%2Ftracker.bittorrent.am%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Fglotorrents.pw%3A6969%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3A80%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.opentrackr.org%3A1337%2Fannounce

I played the PS2 version, the character models have a higher polygon count and it shows. The lightning has also been improved but the game is easier and the maps are smaller. That's how games should be made, PC first.

Anyone else felt that the supply of biocells was too limited in this game? There wasn't much opportunity to actually use augmentations to me. Invisible War was better in that regard.

I think I agree, even though I never had a problem of running out in late game but that is clearly because of the limited supply affecting my way of playing. A lot of the augments aren't really worth relying on, like the damage resistance ones. The game could have used more ways of gaining energy. Maybe a risky way to steal more from still alive cyborg enemies.

I very sparingly used augs until I had to, though I suppose that has more to do with me just being incredibly conservative with resources.

However the Director`s Cut uses a older engine build for some reason, so there is more bugs than the final inital release.

Shit, that is weird. Have any patches been released for the DC to fix that?

Wasn't that because it it started as the Wii U version?

who hasn't played deus ex on Holla Forums yet?

I'd really like to see more criticism of the deus ex games.

if games were made PC first they would be pathetically limited by the mediocre control scheme offered on the PC.

1/10 you tried

the best part is I'm not trolling, let's talk about the pathetic AI and the mediocre level design that often fails to work with the level design effectively. Large open spaces just make the game unfun to play.

the mediocre level design that often fails to work with the level design effectively. Large open spaces just make the game unfun to play.
0/10 you didn't try this time. Try Deus Ex: Revision if you like eating shit.

1/10, you need a few more weeks in summer school

Deus Ex was my favorite game until I played system shock 2
I don't know why I like it more, I just do

I get the feeling that this isn't a pasta and OP is horribly autistic.

Sure m80

nigga you need to at least pay attention to what's going on in the industry around you

system shock 2 is one of LGS worst games

then they made some fucking amazing games

they did, but ss2 is surprisingly low in quality for them. If it's the only game of theirs you have played, I strongly urge you to play their other games, SS1, Terranova, Ultima Underworld 1 & 2, and their best games, Thief 1 and 2.

Will do

These are the best threads, though. About a month ago there was a similarly made thread about Gothic, and it was top-tier. It made many anons (me included) replay that old masterpiece and lasted for almost a week

oh, you haven't played them? I assume you've heard of most of them. Any reason why you haven't played them?

I haven't seen any torrents and my steam account has no gabenbucks and I have no job

and yes, I've heard of most of them

So, Holla Forums, what do you think about Deus Ex: Human Revolution?

There was one about SS1 & 2 not long ago as well and it wasn't half bad despite the large amount of shitposters.

Poe's law.

Deus Ex with the stain of modern gaming all over it. Not optimistic about Human Revolution 2, either.

lol

install the game
then install the patch:

enjoy

it's like you hate video games or something

Feel free to stop posting anytime

He is right

You're trying so hard it's getting hard to tell if you're baiting or if reddit found its way here.

are you the same user that did the system shock thread?

Revision is fucking shit, the new AI encourages assault gameplay so it makes the game stupidly boring.

No, you're not

Guessing it's the same user doing all of them. Pulling for a Thief one next

Christ what a trainwreck. I thought it was just going to be a visual overhaul, they thought they could out-do the original's level design and soundtrack too.

I'm playing Invisible War, is there anything I can do to make it less shit?

Close your eyes and imagine your waifu is smothering your face with her ass to take the pain away

Alt-F4

Just trying to get Holla Forums to play videogames

HEY FAGGOT YOU SHOULD DOWNLOAD BONZI BUDDY, CLICK HERE TO FIND OUT HOW
great thread op bravo encore

Good job OP, I really like your dedication. Are you by any chance the same user who made the System Shock thread as well?

Should I just put up the link to the torrent page instead of the magnet link if you think I'm trying to make you download dolphin porn?

no, thats just the first thing to come to mind and i wanted to shitpostbump cause deus ex is awesome and everyone should play it before the tpp ruins our lives

"Deus Ex: Revision" is just the STALKER Complete of Deus Ex, right down to the outdated versions of stolen mods, except now with more paid mods corporate fuckery. Play GMDX instead.

you have just reminded me that I have yet to play system shock, which i downloaded form the previous thread. I'mma install that shit now

But why, user, don't you want to wait for the (((remake)))? It's got a sick new feel to it that better takes in the elements and refinements you see in modern vidya, plus it's being developed by one of the few based devs there are left today.

Unatco?

Savage.

Unatco.

Savage.

Oh, and don't forget those RPG elements they've got as a stretch-goal. Hope you'll be able to keep up with the meta when you're designing your builds, Citadel Station won't be easy on scrubs!

Old men,

Running the world.

Good thing I fell for the swimming meme

Actually you can still get in there without upgrading swimming at all, it's just very awkward, so swimming is still useless.

A new age!

mario can swim

Topkek loser

Fuck off gook.
Worst possible wat for someone to play it.
Yep. Fuck off. Game has nothing to do wih parasites like you.

what

Most likely not, "have to focus on the latest and greatest release untill we drop support one year later to start the cycle all over again. Because profits are 0.0001% under budget and the CEO can't buy another $10,000,000 house that they won't ever use."
Sounds definitely plausible.

Dare I as when you spawned from?
Sage for OT.

I tried playing the Director's Cut and it is stuttering like fucking hell despite applying all possible fixes on the PCGamingWiki. I'll try the original instead.

Kind of disappointed that you didn't mention the map patch for Deus Ex GOTY
dxm.be/navigator.php5?lang=en&content=202

This is the first time I heard about this patch. It certainly would have been helpful if I had this installed on my first playthrough.

op is an autist but the good kind, the kind that made old/v/ good

every time

Nah, Swimming is pretty good. It's extremely cheap and you're downplaying just how awful untrained Swimming is. The few skill points needed to get to Trained are always worth it.

I played GMDX in Hardcore mode once which disabled quicksaving and only allowed saving via save points scattered across the levels
Such a change in saving behavior really forces you to adapt to situations and use whatever tools necessary, and is more fun than reloading saves every 120 seconds

Shit, that reminds me that I was gonna try hardcore mode with the bonus difficulty options turned on. The new AI and camera behaviour makes nonlethal pretty challenging.

>>>/reddit/

Well yeah, isn't it? It's what IGN says, and they seem pretty knowledgeable about good video games.

There need to be more incredible cyberpunk games like System Shock and Deus Ex tbh.
