I'll play devil's advocate in saying that Yandev is right to the extent that Holla Forums doesn't make themselves a group that devs would want to pander to. And yes pandering to Holla Forums is definitely a think don't kid yourselves.

Having said that, the complaints people were having of him were totally valid and he only has himself to blame if his game end up a poor imitation of his vision because he settled for listening to people who are impressed by gimmicky easter eggs.

More importantly his problem is that he is a very unfortunate breed of idea guy: one who is actually willing to put the work into to make his idea a reality but hasn't put any thought into whether his idea would be a remotely realistic milestone for one guy. As a result he's probably going to get burnt out working on the same game forever and end up with an unfinished mess. It's a big reason why the whole "early access, pay me while I work on it" approach should be avoided because it can look really bad if you don't end up with a finished product.
